If the content is your own original work, (or if you own it even if you paid someone else to do it), you can register it with the US Copyright Office. You can also register the characters. But there will be a fee and forms to fill out. You don't have to register, but then if you want to be able to go after someone for your financial damages for stealing your work and using it, then it is best to register your work with the US Copyright Office (if you are in the US). If you are not in the US, then check and see if the country you are in has Copyright registration of some sort to help protect it's citizen's i telkectual property.

You can't monetise childrens RUclips channels with ads. Google will not put ads on childrens content so unless you have a specific external sales processa and product, you are not making any cash with this.

Do it wrong and you are looking at a $42k fine. The items that you can advertise are usually very low value and have to fully comply with childrens advertising standards menaing in most cases it is not worth the effort. You are defnately not going to get your usual adult related products / services shown on the channel / video
Before COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), it was interesting, but now it's over. Even if you get millions of views, you only earn a few measly dollars. With COPPA, children's channels lose 90% of their income.
