The great thing about these homage episodes aren't homages just for a gimmick. They facilitate one of several things: Character relationship growth and/or analysis, character growth/analysis, and characterization.
Yes, what I love about community is how these episodes are fluff they are just something fun, they're more than just fun they build upon the characters and develop them.
“You’re gonna die you little fuckinf bastards!” *freeze frames like found footage of Big Foot* “part pillow, part man” never seizes to make me fucking cackle. Brilliant
I love the homages and parodies because they take the subject really serious and actually do a good job of pleasing the fan base of the subject, like dnd or law and order etc.
Great explanation of why Community is the best show ever. This is what I try to say when I explain to people what's so great about it, but this video does it way more articulately. I'll definitely be showing this to people I'm introducing to the show!
I was surprised to see no follow up video yet because of how well executed this one is, I’ve never seen someone put all these insights together in an analysis video so well. Thank you so much for this
Great video! Community is still one of my all time favourite shows! I think my one small issue with it is I always feel like I've got to explain to people unfamiliar with the show to give it a chance, because imo early s1 has it's moments, but is relatively formulaic in it's sitcom genre. It plays a bit with tropes and homages early on, but doesn't really start to embrace all that until really late into s1. When I first ever watched the show, I wasn't really captured by it until the chicken fingers episode, which I think was the major turning point for the series as a whole. I think rewatching early s1 you can pick up a bit better on the parodies they were going for, but when watching it passively for the first time I don't think it's necessarily obvious they're there until chicken fingers mafia movie slaps you in the face. I've *still* got a fair few friends who said they tried watching it and couldn't get into it, but never got past mid-way s1, then I have to be that annoying person who's like "it gets better I swear!".
Im genuinely confused why this video doesn't have more appreciation this was so obviously thought out and took a long time to make, either way its awesome
Love the show and loved your video. I don't know if anyone else said that but the Modern Warfare episode was directed by Justin Lin and the Russo's did the other two paintballs among half of the first two seasons.
the only genre that i was sad wasnt made an homage by community was 70s-90s bad horror movies. the oppurtunity would've been perfect if for a Halloween episode, pierce got intoxicated or started seeing hallucinations because of his pills and tried to kill everyone, it would've been a perfect opportunity to give homage to classics like the halloween series, or the friday the 13th series, etc.
Hey man, saw this in my email. I just want to say thanks for the support. My life moved on, I'd love to make new videos but I've started other projects in my life. Maybe one day when a topic really drives me. Thanks so much for this comment.
yes you're right, if you check the description I have a new mic and was constantly messing with it leading to different audio levels which I couldn't level out because the level differences were just too great.
Never said the idea was inherently unique, I am simply pointing out that genre filmmaking enhances the show and adds to it's charm. And i'm also pointing out how it does it in a successful manner that many shows have failed to do, B99, The Office etc. Obviously other shows have done it before and done it well but that's not what this is about. Thank you for checking the video out though, I appreciate it.
Community has a really special feel to it. It uses the genres to tell stories that fit in the genres and explore relationships between the characters. A fistful of paintballs explores the relationship between Annie and Pierce, Modern warfare is about Jeff and Britta. The genre parodies make you laugh and cry within minutes of each other. I love South Park, but the genre parodies there just feel like farces
I hope they never make a movie so we can always look forward to the movie. If they make a movie that'll be it and the journey will be over for good....
Nice, you cover some important talking points in the video production space! We are interested what you do, don't stop. Anytime you are in Phoenix let us know. If you'd like, direct message us @dmakproductions on Instagram and we can connect. You kill it!
I don't think a show should be criticized for making offensive jokes, nor should it be seen as a flaw. Offensive jokes work as long as everyone race is being joked upon. Abed Nadir says it best: m.ruclips.net/video/MBP61oXYGgY/видео.html
Ur voice is sexy
Bout as nice as a serial killer whispering into my ear before filleting me.

I almost finished four times and I'm a straight man
"You'll have to excuse my partner. He's been on edge since we've switched." Is the FUNNIEST line of the entire series.
An impossible task IMO, but a worthy challenger for the spot ❤
Idk, "yes I can! It's all terrain, dummy" is my personal favorite
Stopped being a family, and became a family... in italics. Always makes me laugh
They don't make parodies they make homages
That's what I love the most about community, it's not trying to be something it's not.
Absolutely.
Community is home to everyone. “You’re already accepted.”
The show never fails to warm my heart
"Need I remind you this is not a courtroom" is probably one of my favourite jokes from the entire show, something about it hits super well
Every time I get to that point in the episode I forget it’s not a real cop show.
"objection, i hate the both of you"
He’s right. You’re not cops.
@@cognitivedissonance8406 one of the best line deliveries in the entire show

Six seasons and a movie!
If you were a food, you'd be a chicken finger. Good video
the asscrack bandit episode is absolute gold and I cannot forgive you for not including it in this video
Really great take on Community, and great points about the genre filmmaking in the Office/Brooklyn 99!
Great explanation of why Community is the best show ever. This is what I try to say when I explain to people what's so great about it, but this video does it way more articulately. I'll definitely be showing this to people I'm introducing to the show!
This video is streets ahead
Well, the russo's brothers being hired in the mcu for their work in community is more a fact than a thought.
“I’m sorry about my partner. He’s been on edge ever since we switched” is by are one of my favourite lines from this show
I keep finding more and more ways to fall in love with Community :)
facts, it just gets better and better over time
I was surprised to see no follow up video yet because of how well executed this one is, I’ve never seen someone put all these insights together in an analysis video so well. Thank you so much for this
Community is the only show that ever had a shoe Halloween special and it's still cannon
I dont think there will ever be a more amazing block of comedies than Community, The Office, 30 Rock and Parks and Rec back to back.
“it has everything, star wars, western, parallel universe” i just realize this show is a burger slice of life, no wonder i love it so much
community is so meta that it makes meta meta and i will stand by that for the rest of my life
I’m rewatching community, still holds up
yooo why has nobody seen this? it's very good??? (referring to the video not the show, although it applies to the show too)
thanks so much! I'm pretty happy about how big this video got considering how small my channel is.
