  • Connecting to the Film World - Event Highlights
On March 22, 2024, we hosted "Connecting to the Film World" at Ormeau Baths, generously sponsored by HaZimation.
Our goal was to inspire more women to pursue careers in film, TV, and gaming. The event addressed the underrepresentation of women in areas such as production, post-production, coloring, visual effects, sound design, and accountancy.
Anne McVicker, Director at WRDA, opened the event with a heartfelt introduction. Paula Crickard, co-founder of HaZimation, then led a panel discussion where industry professionals shared their journeys and roles. Paula's belief in her abilities as a woman in the industry was particularly inspiring. The panel also discussed overcoming confidence issues and realizing their potential in the film industry.
Paula's interactive session showcased the various roles in the industry by breaking down film credits, helping the audience understand the wide range of opportunities from 'Best Boy Grip' to production staff.
Anne McVicker and Helen Crickard were honored to meet Lord Caine, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, who visited the event.
After lunch, representatives from NI Screen and the Production Guild of Great Britain provided practical advice on entering the film industry through networking and resources like ScreenSkills.
The day concluded with a second-panel discussion on the role of women in the film industry, expertly hosted by Paula. The audience was thrilled to hear from Louise Gallagher, who joined the panel after wrapping up Season 2 of Blue Lights.
Watch the highlights of an inspiring day aimed at empowering women to break into the film world!
