Close the deck and send it off to outfront to have the short block built, these engines won’t last without extremely expensive equipment for balancing/clearancing etc. 1000% worth the extra cost of having a shop do it.
I agree with Seth. I have an IAG stage 4 Extreme Closed Deck Block and have been pushing 660whp for 3 years and it still purrs. Spend the extra money on closed deck. They are bullet proof bro.
Dude. Tanner and Devin collab gets me all sweaty just thinking about all the shit they could do. Maybe sprinkle a little bit of Josh and Jay into the mix and boy oh boy. Must be something in the water that those PNW boys are drinking. Definitely my 4 favorite channels that I go to as soon as I get on RUclips.
Hey Devin... In case you don't know.....There's 2 types of wrx crank.... standard in the wrx and nitrided in the STi ..... Pay the extra for a nitrided one.....
Just saying I commented a couple videos ago about how the sti motor is gonna be blown in a week, and unfortunately it looks like I was right Nevermind two minutes in and I ate my words.
Morning bro FYI I ALSO have a 2017 sti with basically the same mods as your sti stock motor with bolt ons tuned to 510 whp and has 90,000km on it and still going strong. You should get good mileage out of it.
You think a cylinder 4 cooling mod is good for longevity? On an all stock STI maybe just a downpipe in the future. I saw that Bader won’t use the cylinder 4cooling mod.
The 2019-2021 STI EJs are more robust than the previous gens after it got some slight redesign from the RA. A lot of people have been getting reliable long lasting 400 - 500 whp with good tuning on the 2019+. A guy on one of the Subi forums tore town and compared the internals of the RA redesign EJ to a 2015 EJ and explains why the new subtle differences are leaving owners with stronger more reliable EJs in the 2019+ models.
As a Subaru boy. 500hp with open deck is pretty much the limit. Higher than that, and cylinder walls will start to bend and vibrate etc. Will blow gasket or worse. You can slap out more than 500, but engine won't last for long. If it was mine, I would just put closed deck. Also next issue is the oil. It has to have some kind of extra oil system. Otherwise it will suck air at some point and big rip.
Looking forward to this build It’s been a long time watching from Scratch. I would watch my dad as a little girl pulling engines apart and meticulously drawing around everything numbering it etc 😁
Closed deck should be the option if you are already going the full build way. New cranks are cheap. Could even look for a better one with higher strength / quality then the OEM ones. Even those don't cost very much.
8.2-8.5 ratio piston gap Concave pistons Cosworth head gasket Arp headstuds 1600 injectors Performance timing belt Koyorad radiator 272 cams Titanium value keepers set Stiff valve springs same Close deck, stepped cylinder line Eagle rods Tomi bearing Love the vids hermano🙏🏽
Just get a Bader Built closed deck shortblock. Since he's local to you and he is one of the best out there. Closed deck without a doubt. You shouldn't be making more than 550 WHP on stock case halves before you start to have more issues.
Build a de-stroker rev monster!! 04-05 ej205 or ej207 crank, with custom forged pistons and longer rods. With head work and the right valve train, youd be looking at a 9-9.5k ripper!!
DO CYL 4 COOLING MOD and close that baby the bearings will thank you later. and make sure to get some high quality bearings if you aren't going crazy don't get race bearings because they will wear out faster if you want to daily it. Perhaps invest in a valve port job as it really wakens the car up and cools the cylinders even more.
Pinned mains won’t be needed if your going for 600, you’ll definitely want to close deck the block, out front is a great place to get it done since you are in the states. If anything, I’d get Bader’s stage 5 shortblock, it’s built for 800 wheel and it’s always better to overbuild since we all know you and know you’ll want to turn it up even more 😉 but super excited to see what plans you end up going with, all ima say is 500 wheel on pump is Bader’s specialty 😉
Can I just say this... You need to be in the fast and furious movie line up. Like some how some way, put you in the line up and bring it back to the streets. Sheeeeeeesh 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
Best to have a set up prepared for the nuthouse first attempt.. so do all the things balls to the wall right out the gate, save yourself the revisit a year or two down the line.
So a buddy of mine had a 2013 frs and there was rod knock but he caught it early before it was bad. All he did was replace the rod bearings and it stopped knocking. Would you recommend that he rebuild the entire motor or just keep what he had previously did.
Id say go closed deck and not look back considering bobbi wouldnt ever want her car breaking, all over the internet its said to be risky semi closed deck 500-600whp

Lol doing the same thing now with my 05 STI, snagged a spare block to build and swap my RA Block out with 😅
Hey its this guy from that one channel, with those turbo boxer cars , 0000oooo
5000% invest in closed deck
Agreed IAG stage 3 closed deck👌
closed deck for sure. i love motor builds. It's so satisfying.
get a new crank a crank is like $300 dont waste your time with machining it and 100000% go closed deck and 1/2 headstuds do it right once!
Thank you for keeping me entertained while your on vacation haha enjoy your time off! Stoked for this build
Closed deck block is a must
This is where I want to see you work with Smeedia so badly on one of these projects
Me too! This would be awesome.
+1 for this idea
+1 on this 👀

Machine the cases at outfront. They have a special hone machine for boxers that will make sure your bearing clearances are good to go.

Very cool and best of luck. A Cam Upgrade is always stress on a Daily but if you want more, yeah, let her eat!

it's 99.75 for the 2.5 bore over bore is 100mm unless you sleeve it. unless it is a 2.0L block which is way thicker for bore.

can't go wrong with the closed deck, def a good investment
lets shoot for 700 and give the evo some competition
Pretty sure he’d have to upgrade the turbo for 700 🥴
@@BigBlakkAndreezy41 yeah 5858 only good for like 620-650
That turbo is rated for 600hp not 700
Never will.

I saw a post that bader won’t use cylinder 4 cooling mod. I wonder why?

I’m hype for this build, been waiting since you announced you were rebuilding it
I vote closed deck:) Hope you and Bobbi are doing well
We got a standard ej207 bottom end holding 600hp in our test car we also got 2.35 at 820hp 😁
High HP definitely needs closed deck mate
I really wanna see you and Bobby at the track after she’s done!
Thanks for keeping me entertained love all ur vids 🙌
Helloo, amazing video, can you make a video on how to test the engine clearance and how you build the motor? Thank you
Man it would be nice to have some of your skills. I don't know the first thing about rebuilding a engine
Practice makes perfect. It’s doable bro.
Go junk yard and pull a d series motor or miata engine very cheap engine to build and won’t feel bad pulling it apart!
Can I just say this...

you should check darton sleeves...

I like evo"s. The way you said it was priceless mate.
intuition brought me here one of the first
You better get on it!... from what I hear, Hector's gonna be running 3 Honda Civics with Spoon engines.
What would you call the style ig of the rims on the baby blue evo I just wanna know the name basically
We'll see you tomo....😄
Lol, 2 days after tuning the sti building already a motor 🤣
Get er ready for all the boooost and turn er up to the moon! 💪🏽💪🏽
Hahaha Not gonna lie, around 7:20 I kept waiting for an SK Tools pop up to come up on the screen while he was working with that extension.
Cranks are dirt cheap, never reuse a STI crank… I would measure out that case as well. It’s most likely hammered as well.
Closed deck and forged internals
Just go with a closed deck if you ever end up wanting to make more power
Phil a real one
id do .05 to .010 over. no need to take away more cylinder wall than necessary
You should cerakote and powder coat Bobby’s engine since your building it. Might look nice black and baby blue accents.
More power baby hell yeah
how new is the block? You definitely want to get a newer nitrite treated crank if possible, started coming with one in 17 I believe.
The nitrated cranks are known to be the weakest version Subaru ever put out. You want heat treated.
You must be thinking of NITRIDE cranks, not the nitrated. The new ones are heat treated and nitride treated. They're Gucci
@@evanchi9460 yep what I was trying to say
Devin give the crank to bader as payment 🤣
Oh fuck lol time to build the bottom end 😈
Closed deck! 700whp or bust
Devin always wants Mo Powa Babeh!
Man you gotta build it with smeedia
Man just call bader he give u the rundown
Close Deck the block, bro
Ok , ok Let’s get to work 💯
mo powwaa baby!
Yes Devin watching from uk love content bro keep it coming
Id say go closed deck and not look back considering bobbi wouldnt ever want her car breaking, all over the internet its said to be risky semi closed deck 500-600whp
Something compared to baders sti or zwicknasti wouod be dope
Close deck man but really u should built a ez30 motor big power 👊
Subaru and "go to the moon" talk is closed deck thing
Get all new internals. Don’t take any chances man
100% need to go closed deck
Subaru/evo .... Devin:say no more
Hey man was wondering what the blower you use to dry the cars is?
Waiting for the dyno day...... 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Just want to say hello or the way from new Zealand
Ghost cam?!
I have a feeling Bobbie is gonna do some choppy choppy to Devin ... who knows 🤷🏼♂️
closed deck for sure
Noway 1
Cerkote the block red
Get the nitrate crank
Closed deck above 500whp
Closed deck, 1/2” headstuds, je proseal headgaskets, line honed, bored to 99.75
Talk to Bader!
the click bait was real, damn i thought the sti blew XD
Close deck it my bro and cly 4 cooling mod
Heellll yea
“ I think we want more power”
LOL NO NIGGA ! I think “WE” know YOUU want more power... Bobbi already scared of the bloodcleet car
Do a collab with bader!!
i really hope you send it to someone with appropriate jigs....
That was fast lol
You had me in that ig post good 😂
Oh yeah!!!!
