  • Douglas has learned all kinds of things about the wise men that brought gifts to Jesus when he was a baby.
We've all heard about the wise men that brought three gifts to bay Jesus, but Douglas wanted to learn more so he had his parents help him research. The three gifts the wise men brought were, Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. Gold is easy, everyone knows what that is (money!), but he mostly wanted to know: What is frankincense? and what is myrrh?. Both are kinds of dried tree sap that smell good. Frankincese was usually used as incense, something that you would burn in the temple to make a sweet smell, sort of like a burnt offering. Myrrh was used in lotions or perfumes, and it was often used in burial to make a person's dead body not smell bad. here are some other interesting facts Douglas learned about the wise men:
    1. There many have been three, but the Bible doesn't actually say how many there were, or who they were.
    2. According to legend (stories passed down from generation to generation), there were three, and they were named Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.
    3. The Bible calls them Wise Men, or Magi, but not kings. There are verses in the Old Testament (like, Isaiah 60:3, Psalm 68:29, and Psalm 72:10) that prophesied that kings would come and bow down before Jesus. But that may likely mean all kings everywhere.
We often forget to honor Jesus as our King. Let's follow the example of the Wise Men and bring honor to the King of Kings!
