My Dad and I used to do long country driving to this song watching the landscape change from Winter to Spring. He passed away at 53 in 2015, and we played this at his funeral. This song to me represents the beauty, the tragedy and all the in-between: a microcosm of life.
Watched the movie again after not seeing it for decades. I cried during several parts, both because they moved me and because it reminded me of my own childhood and adolescence. Seeing the images brought back the memories of seeing them with different eyes way back when. The movie has such simple and yet fundamental and essential truths about life. In my younger years, I wondered how come people don't try to be like this more often - like how come a person watches a movie like this and instantly doesn't think "OK, this is how I'm going to try to be as a human being"? I honestly felt inspired by someone like Forrest who just went through life without prejudice or malice or ego or lying or trying to trick others. I know it's just a fairy tale and a heightened version of reality, but man, it's so easy to at least try and get closer to this ideal. I wish I could at least filter shitty behavior of others as well as Forrest, he rises above it so well, he just doesn't let it phase him one single bit.

Now here I am an adult and I watched this movie for the first time today in 10yrs. I cried like a baby, I understand more now than I did back then. It reminded me of my childhood, good times and definitely the bad.

For some reason, it's rating has decreased on Rotten Tomatoes, with one 'critic' saying "the movie didn't provide enough of a millennial perspective". I hate this generation.

It’s always sounded to me like the soundtrack of a life...beginning quietly and softly, with the hope of a lifetime ahead of it...then breaking into youthful exuberance, like a young man or woman in the prime of life, with the world before them to explore and conquer....But the storms and challenges of life hit, and life becomes quiet and somber, and memories flood back...Until the quiet end of life. It brings me to tears almost every time I listen to it. 😌❤️
Just finished watching this again. I cried in silence during the scene where his mum tells him she's dying. My mum has cancer too and this film hits different now. Stay safe everyone. Always tell your loved ones how much they mean to you. Even if you just had a fight. Life is short.

Since when the most beautiful period of my life ended, I stopped watching this movie. But every time I hear this music, I get nostalgic for my beautiful life, which is by the past. The depth of Forrest's complex feelings is so well captured by Alan Silvestri. I love listening to this suite that comes on at the movie's end credits. It is a fitting epilogue to the moving sequence of events that Forrest experiences. A broad life filled with really beautiful people: Bubba Blue, Lieutenant Dan, Jenny, Mrs. Gump (Sally Field). This is why we cry when we hear this.
Well to be fair Jenny is kind of a huge PITA and never redeems herself. So I do think you are right mostly but Jenny was most definitely not a beautiful person (on the inside).

That man had the patience of a saint. After Forrest visits her apartment and sees little Forrest she is kind to Forrest. A new leaf for everyone. He obviously was one to forgive her.
Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, and Four Weddings and a Funeral nominated for Best Picture with Gump pulling out the win. 1994 was overall a great year in film.
