Since people are evidently misunderstanding what Frankie meant: Blinding Lights was a sleeper hit insofar as when it came out after Heartless, people thought it was a worse song. Fast forward to a week later, and the consensus was the Blinding Lights was WAY better than Heartless. A 'sleeper hit' doesn't literally mean it puts you to sleep. It means that it remains dormant for the first little while until people develop a fuller appreciation of the song.
This song always feels like a conversation between my late best friend's heart and mine, and it helps missing him hurt just a little less. 💔

Every Weeknd song is a song for the broken hearted. That's why I love his music so much.
Even when he's talking about drowning in pussy, he makes it very obvious lyrically that it's because he can't connect to anyone anymore. All the drug references are the only time he seems to be happy with anything; that's what has his heart now. And that shit is relatable.

The meaning in the song is actually the opposite. It's a girl that's happy when she's not aware he's around. This is a great motivational song, I listen to it when I have to do something that I don’t want to do and have low motivation.
