And al of those lifeforms can be found on either side of Ventura Highway in the sunshine. Where the days are longer, and the nights are stronger than moonshine.
They came to the Ventura fair grounds a few years ago. Beautiful absolutely beautiful. When they sang Ventura highway the sun was setting on the Ventura highway behind them. It will be something I will never forget
Riverside, the first song on their debut album, is such a good song. I am 72 now and still play that first album regularly. It's hard to believe that kids of 17 and 18 could write such mature songs that will last forever.
Riverside was Dewey's first fully-fledged song (as songwriter) and the band still performs it live (2021/22), and it sounds AMAZING, still!! I can never listen to it just once at a time - - The melody, mood, lyric, beat; Dewey's silky smooth, soulful voice and Gerry's masterful guitar licks: Great music never fades, it just gets sweeter with age! Long live America!!! 👑🎸🎶🌟
Late 70’s I played the grooves off of the Hideaway album. Bought it on a whim was pleasantly surprised. Best memory was of my uncle driving us to the drag strip in NJ with lonely people playing on the radio and him singing out of tune. America is part of the soundtrack of my life.
It's nice to know Dewey and Gerry stuck together all these years even though their popularity went downhill after the 70's . They had quite a bit of hits which people still love to hear in concerts.
in the 80´s the "you can do magic" was listened in every radio station, i started with their first LP recorded by george Martin after the Beatles but only recentelly i discovered and listened several times to sister golden hair ,this because i saw a late 70´s dr.peppers central park concerts with America ,first i stayed watching because they had a lot of footage of people around and in the park that year, it made me remenber other times
In 1972 - 73 ..... I was laying in my van in the California Sierras on an overnight, a few bones with the sittin' round the camp fire moments before ..... I put a cassette into the dash player and became entranced in THE SOUNDS of "America" - a great thing had begun and I enjoyed the ride .... this one and all that followed ! My favorite was SANDMAN ! GBjj
I first came across the band America when I heard the song: “Horse with No Name.” At the time I was looking for an acoustic sound that might be a substitute for Crosby, Stills, and Nash who had been having their own difficulties and were heading for a break-up. America filled that void and I’ve been a fan ever since. I’ve seen the band nearly a dozen times and they have never disappointed. The sound that they have created is authentic and their own brand. Keep up the great work and unique sound. Kudos America for making music 🎼 Terry Flood, Weehawken, NJ ❤
I grew up on these guys. My dad played the shit out of them on the stereo. His buddies come over to jam on their guitars and they would play America songs as well.
I saw America after coming back from Vietnam in 1972. I was then stationed in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. I can't remember if I saw them in 72 or later in 73. One of the band members had just got married and possibly spending their honeymoon there. I dont recall which band member was celebrating their honeymoon BUT the concert was awesome....glad they are still out there. Also I am an Air Force kid, so we do have something in common....
After leaving the band, he had a solo hit with " All Things Are Possible". Still own the 45...such a beautifully-inspirational song. The band just wasn' t the same after his departure, but they are still one of my favorites, even after almost 50 years..Jr. and Sr. High School memories tied to each of their hits..
High school friend introduced me to their music thru the Album "America" in 1970, liked them ever since; recently saw them in concert @ small, more intimate setting on U-TUBE/the sound was "timeless", better than ever for it brought back sweet memories of the past...thank you America!
Also, you gentlemen started as friends & still are with something in common; your love of music & God-given talent which you constantly worked @ thru more than 50yrs w/ups & downs of life on "a world stage"/how cool is that plus you "kept it real" 'cause you knew how lucky "the gift" was but didn't rest on them but your "life force" plus LOVE of family & friends & fans reflected the results of such hard work for when I view your concerts/listen to the Majic of the Music it transports me to "beautiful, basic truth & simplicity which to me means the Power of the Divine thru one of the "great communicators" in our lives: M U S I C/sorry 'bout goin' on & on" but entertainers like you all over the world matter now more than ever w/positive "on-off" switch of the crazy to the Simple. Peace to you all always & thank you once again. (P.S. my favorite song amongst all your incredible repertoire is the simple solo one whose title doesn't come to mind due to "temp age/brain gas whichthankfully goes away"🙄
Saw them at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast Australia back in either 2017 or 2018, can't remember. They were great on that beautiful warm July evening. One of my favourite 70's bands, awesome to see them live.
Take a look at America's latest albums. Listen to all of the songs. There is some awesome music on there. Incredibly underrated. Listen to the 1994 album "Hourglass", 2007 "Here & Now", and 2015 "Lost & Found". These albums are stacked with great work. Also the reviewer didn't even mention their latest album "Lost & Found" and barely touched on the other previous two that I've mentioned. In my opinion America is one of the greatest bands of all time.
I got to see America in 2019 in Detroit at the River Fest(a series of concerts that invited pop stars such as Eddie Money,Loverboy, America to perform during the summer on Friday nights) I got chills when they played Sister GoldenHair, Ventura Highway and the other songs that made them stars.
Every time I hear 'horse with no name' reminds me of the school bus when I was a kid. I heard 'Tin man' on the radio last night and it occurred to me to watch a bio. Good video.
As a Brit in the mid 80's I used to drink at RAF South Ruislip with my US Marine friends in the enlisted bar. Earlier though in the early 70's I saw America a few times. The one that I remember was at a Church hall in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire (England). The hall was less than half full, smell of pot everywhere, you could walk right up to the stage only a few few away from them. Little did I know then what they'd turn into!
Bought every album till 'Silent Letter' ... Intrigued with their 6 & 12 string guitar at the very beginning. Their sound "suffered" a bit after 'Holiday'. Thanks for all the memories guys.
Wow. Thanks for the leg work. One of my first albums. 8 track actually. So fing long ago. Their sound was so distinctive. Now i feel my age. Ill shake it off and pick up my guitar but damn…….
I heard a strange song on the radio when I was 9 years old. I couldn't get my head around it and couldn't get it out of my head. That song was Horse With No Name. Now I've just turned 60 and I'm still a big America fan and still love their music. I try to see them every time they tour "Down Under" and they're overdue for another tour! Don't forget us over here guys.
I also found the research to be solid and I learned I a lot about the group from this video, so way to go on that! As with other viewers, I found the narration to be a bit too fast (as if you were reading from a teleprompter that was moving at a speed that you were struggling to keep up with). As the result of this, and also slurred words at some points, I had to stop and go back to listen to certain passages again. In addition to slowing down the delivery, I believe that you could benefit from a speech therapist, which in turn would likely help improve your future videos. In conclusion though, thank you for all your effort in making and posting this informative video!

I grew up in UK and for some reason in a memory dating back to childhood I always link Ventura Highway with Rockford PI . He always seemed to be driving along the beautiful California coast and that's how California is fixed in my memory today. I've never been there and I realise the Reality is nothing like that but ....who cares ?! For me California means Ventura Highway in the Sunshine and Jim Rockford in his car . RIP Jim Garner and Dan Peek. 🙏🙏
IIRC, Horse With No Name was NOT on the first album. Not initially. It was a stand-alone single that became a hit AFTER the album had been released. So the record company then issued a revised version of that first album containing that track. That's why those albums have the declaration "includes...A Horse with No Name" because by then it was already an established hit.
I ran into this guy's channel very early and he's improved a lot since then. But with such solid research he needs to add a few more pictures and slow down the narration.
The image for the Record Plant in Los Angeles is actually the front entrance to the Record Plant which was located in the old Bay Area shipyard in Sausalito, CA.
A nicely, well-researched video. I do agree your channel has potential to grow, but you need to improve your narration skills. Practice and patience will pay off. I look forward to seeing more videos from you.
"Rooeyslip".....love the way Americans pronounce some of our towns! It's Ruislip but that's understandable of course, after all we pronounce Trottiscliffe "Trozley!!
I bought their entire album they only have 2 songs I like that’s it back in 80’s it was very hard to watch their music videos everything was CDs no vhs or dvd America was just not interested in releasing their songs in music videos or on iTunes limewire was the only way I can find their music videos and iTunes just didn’t have their songs on iTunes

My favorite from Holiday. To me though, their first album is really their best. Three guys with 12-string acoustic guitar arrangements sounds so amazing.
Not sure exactly what happened, but there were plants and birds and rocks and things.
Don’t forget the sand and hills and rings
😂😂😂😂😂
La la la la la la la la🎶🎶🎶
And al of those lifeforms can be found on either side of Ventura Highway in the sunshine. Where the days are longer, and the nights are stronger than moonshine.
Don't forget that _the ocean is a desert, with its life underground and a perfect disguise above._
They came to the Ventura fair grounds a few years ago. Beautiful absolutely beautiful. When they sang Ventura highway the sun was setting on the Ventura highway behind them. It will be something I will never forget
I listen to their greatest hits cd all the time. I grew up with their music. Damn good music.
I have the CD, "History - Greatest Hits".
"Sister Golden Hair" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. A well-deserved #1. I will LOVE it forever. I have all their LP's. R.I.P., Dan.
ok, ok...
Ventura Highway blows me away. I still stumble over that opening and continuing riff. The whole song has their beautiful harmony. Great song.
Joe Osborn on bass and Hal Blaine on drums just kill on that track.
You can do magic is one of my favorite songs of all time.
ok, ok...
I prefer all of their other radio tunes.
Absolutely beautiful music!!! Great job great band!! Love to America..
They have a amazing resume totally deserve Hall of Fame status
Went to see them in concert, this past weekend. They put on a great show, and still sound amazing!
They deserve to be in the R&R HOF. IMHO.
I loved their song called "I need you". I drive Ventura highway everyday😊
ok, ok...
I need you and Daisy Jane are beautiful songs , Jerry Beckley has such a pretty voice ❤
Lonely People is one of my all-time favorite songs. Dan Peak - what a voice!
Love this band, my brother had a quadraphonic stereo. You put on the Sandman and sit back and wait until it hits you, what a great band !
Riverside, the first song on their debut album, is such a good song. I am 72 now and still play that first album regularly. It's hard to believe that kids of 17 and 18 could write such mature songs that will last forever.
Please cremate me with my Riverside download by my side!

Former Saturday Night Live star, Phil Hartman, designed their greatest hits album cover.
Saw them two nights ago in NC…they’re on their 50th anniversary tour. The said they gig 100 shows a year for 50+yrs!
My husband and I saw them, last Friday (08/26/22) at The Des Plaines Theater in Illinois and they still sound AMAZING!
They are!
Here in the Philippines" all my life" was one of the greatest Love song Forever....

Sorry, "all my life..." 'think my 15min of fame are up🤔
Sister Golden hair is a Summer of memories...
Yes!! I loved that song as a little girl and even more as an adult!
Love this band!!!
I have all of their albums. I saw them from front row seat at the Garden State Art Center and fell in love
Saw them at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast Australia back in either 2017 or 2018, can't remember. They were great on that beautiful warm July evening. One of my favourite 70's bands, awesome to see them live.
Cool!
Great band with great songs in a wonderful era of great music.

The band AMERICA has reinvented itself with a strong foundation on their song list!
Absolutely, You nailed it with the word REINVENTING themselves. The sound that they have created is UNIQUE! ❤ 💋
They put on a great show this last Thursday in Melbourne, Fl. Was I lucky a ticket fell into my lap?
Hell Yahhhhhh! 😃✌
Every time I hear 'horse with no name' reminds me of the school bus when I was a kid. I heard 'Tin man' on the radio last night and it occurred to me to watch a bio. Good video.

Bought every album till 'Silent Letter' ...
Intrigued with their 6 & 12 string guitar at the very beginning. Their sound "suffered" a bit after 'Holiday'.
Thanks for all the memories guys.
Nothing. They are still touring as of 2023. Still sound great. Well worth seeing.
That's Ryslip. Thanks for the bio. Much appreciated.
Love these guys. Most of the stuff you presented was totally unknown to me. I wish I could get my hands on a qhite America t shirt.
Saw the two on Aussie tv several years ago, when they toured Australia, and they sounded great. Unfortunately they didn’t come to my city.
Dan Peek had an amazing ability to find a poignant moment in a song. He was one of my favorites
Wow. Thanks for the leg work. One of my first albums. 8 track actually. So fing long ago. Their sound was so distinctive. Now i feel my age. Ill shake it off and pick up my guitar but damn…….

This is not what happened to America, this is rather a _history_ of America.
Well done man thank you! Still Amazing band this one. Sister Golden hair
Thanks for listening
Ventura Highway is an absolute classic but sister golden hair is my favorite
We saw them 3 years in a row at the Arcada in St. Charles. We really miss them.
Saw them in Las Vegas NV not too long ago but still great 👍
I played with Dan on the road in 1987
Theyre still touring without Dan ❤ RIP
My favorite song of there's is Tin man omg love love that song
i love this band and if i could join a band that played these guys i would.
I saw them at Harlow Technical College when they were promoting their first album. It was one of the best gigs I ever attended.

Turn down the video speed corky.

This narrator says marin instead of Martin and pick instead of Peek I too had to go back and replay some of what was said.
Sandman was one of the first Single ibought back in the 70s still one Americas best tracks in my opinion. Wonderful sound .
Thank you for the update. I really enjoyed it
I grew up in UK and for some reason in a memory dating back to childhood

Frequent elision makes the narration difficult to understand.
Excellent narration.
Glad you liked it!
Saw them this summer at Waterfest Oshkosh, WI. Outstanding!
Gerry Beckley has recorded quite a few solo albums with some great songs. And he's worked with the superb California musician Jeff Larson.
Can I request a What happened to for the band The Cyrkle? Red Rubber Ball and Turn Down Day, thanks.
Dude over all decent job content wise. You need too slow down a bit, relax, chill... Don't run your words together.
Agree. Dude can you hear yourself
I ran into this guy's channel very early and he's improved a lot since then. But with such solid research he needs to add a few more pictures and slow down the narration.
Like others have said, slow down and pronounce your words fully. Otherwise a good channel.
For the next video, how about "What Happened To America (the country)"?
It's still there.
Going to see them at Oceans in AC AUG3 2024!!
o
They are currently touring.
One of the funniest titles for a vid. Brilliant, mate.
The image for the Record Plant in Los Angeles is actually the front entrance to the Record Plant which was located in the old Bay Area shipyard in Sausalito, CA.
Great band miss hearing them
Great band ❤
The band, America plays tonight, Oct. 22, in Sioux Falls, S. Dakota....and I have a ticket. Back on the map again.
11:12 Joe Osborne played bass not drums.
Phil Hartman the Saturday night live comedian did a couple of album covers for them
There’s always some nimrod saying “ most under rated band “ , when every song went to the top of the charts.
Love the tin man
A nicely, well-researched video. I do agree your channel has potential to grow, but you need to improve your narration skills. Practice and patience will pay off. I look forward to seeing more videos from you.
I L O V E A M E R I C A!!
Actor Bill Mumy, from Lost in Space, played with them. At least in the studio, possibly some live dates. Not sure.
"Rooeyslip".....love the way Americans pronounce some of our towns! It's Ruislip but that's understandable of course, after all we pronounce Trottiscliffe "Trozley!!
8:02, FRIENDS with the guys from Van Halen! Whoa!
Holy cow. Never knew these guys were from England
Never gave me that vibe
They aren't from England... They were what we call in the U.S. Armed Forces "military brats." Their fathers were career airmen in the U.S. Air Force stationed at RAF Ruislip in London back in the late 1960s when the trio met in high school. All are American except Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell mothers were English.
The band was never the same after they named the horse.
Should be in Rock and Roll Hall of fame
Didn’t one of the members of that band do the voice Simon in were the Chipmunks cartoon?
The producers name is George Martin not George Marin.
Old Man Took. Gem!
My favorite from Holiday. To me though, their first album is really their best. Three guys with 12-string acoustic guitar arrangements sounds so amazing.
How did you miss the soundtrack to "The Last Unicorn"? The band recorded the songs and music with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1982.
Why are they not in the Rock n' Hall of Fame?
The commentary is totally on my Level... if Level is as Giraffe Puss!🤣 All Love fam!
Sorry! deleted unnecessary words and made it worse!🤣
Please fix the audio in the future.
Didn’t realize that we could thank America for the all-time classic, “Muskrat Love”! 😂
They didn’t write that song.
