I think Alden Ehrenreich has the most underrated performance of the year in Oppenheimer. On the surface, his character is really just a stand in for the audience almost, just hearing the events, but man does he deliver. Kind of shame he got overshadowed by an equally brilliant RDJ performance
And cocaine bear 🔥
It really says a lot that RDJ always thanks Alden in his speeches!
She was great in High Fidelity. Underrated show, shouldn't have been cancelled!
Yes! I wished another network/streamer picked it up
YES! This! I find myself rewatching the show discovering new sides to the character and her choices and you're just like "Damn. This woman was meant to do this." Such a talent and so deserved.
Totally. I loved the show and she was so funny. Her story was just beginning getting that guitar. I wish it would have kept going.
And just as she was going to get her solo episode
I didn't even realize that that was where I first saw her. She's was so good and that show was fantastic. I really wanted a season 2 and for her to have her bottle episode :(
Excellent conversation, glad that this guy come back to acting, missing him after Solo and seeing him in Oppenheimer was so nice 🥰
He was the standout in Cocaine Bear imo
Her story of “he was asked to get bigger names then went through them and said ok can we go to her now” needs to be put out there more, movies / TV need more new people to emerge
I'm so happy Alden had a bounce back after SOLO. I personally loved his performance and how he made it his own, and her was terrific in both Oppenheimer and Fair Play!
Alden is criminally underrated, he stood out in a stacked cast of Oppenheimer which is insane.
I've been a fan of his since 2016 after seeing Hail, Caesar! Again, he stands out in such an ensemble cast he's incredible.
He needs to be kept booked and busy!! Like Da'Vine, they're both amazing
holdovers absoloutley hit me in a wonderful way. Thank you DA'Vine what a wondeful movie full of heart.
I love these pairings this one. It feels like they are so interesting, they are not interrupting each other. Great connection, real conversation. Genuine
Fell in love with her in High Fidelity, I’m so glad she is slowly becoming a bigger star now! Well deserved 100%
Yess she grabbed my attention immediately on that show. Brilliant actor!
Da’Vine is glorious in the Holdovers!! And I also love Alden, so great pairing 🫶
Yes Interlochen shoutout! So proud of everything you've accomplished Da'Vine! You're a star!
sorry but it’s really bothering me that she was talking about the props people working on the julia childs series as in the HBO show and variety showed photos from julie & julia instead
i was looking for this comment - me toooo lol
Good show by the way! ha yes noticed this.@@DavidLeithFraser
Thank you! I was irritated by that too. The Julia series is so good.
Those photos are not from the Julia Child series. They are from the Meryl Streep movie Julie & Julia.
Da'Vine is very inspiring from a place of working smart not just hard. ❤
OBSESSED WITH THIS WOMANNNNN
This is a great interview!!
Love this conversation! Great to see them dig deep into their career moves and work
I could listen to her all day
Da’Vine Joy Randolph neeeeds to be in more movies/tv she was incredible in the holdover and the only highlight in the Idol
The fact that he saw her from Dolemite and had her in mind the entire time! Never stop working you never know who is watching
Yep and now she's gonna win an Oscar 🙌
I loved Da'Vine in The Holdovers, she was my fav and I love what she brought to the character.
I love Alden Ehrenreich. When I clicked on this I was thinking it would be for Cocaine Bear! What a diverse year for him though with that, Oppernheimer, and Fair Play.
Damn, Ehrenreich's already worked with the Coens, Chris Nolan, Francis Ford/Sofia Coppola, and Park Chan-wook. What a resume -35
So glad I live in the times of Ms. Randolph I am in deep deep like with this gorgeous woman. She is extraordinary at her profession. I’m not on SM so I don’t know how to follow her. But I will continue to search for her. She deserves all the awards. A true acting genius and sooooo funny omg💃🏿💪🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Both of these artists are brilliant.
2 wonderful down-to-earth actors 👍🏼
Fascinating discussion about the “acting” of doing press.
Great episode!!
"Robert Downey Jr. fought all day for Alden Ehreich's character to get a name in Oppenheimer." ❤
I love Da’vine Joy since High Fidelity.
Blessings!
Alden Ehrenreich is such an underrated actor and deserves all the love and respect. Love him since Tetro & Beautiful Creatures. Can't help falling in love with this talented thespian❤!!
I loved Ehrenreich as "obligatory Chris Nolan exposition receptacle character" in Oppenheimer.
Why did they show Julie and Julia the movie and not Julia the TV series…?
Why are all the comments so AI now on these videos 🙄
31:47 The Idol
DJ was one of the only good things in the Idol. I just wanted a show of her bein a boss.
His attitude is horrible. How many times did he say yea. Won't be watching anything hes in
Is she going to be in the remake of return of the Jedi…
Mature one right here ladies and gents!
Da’Lard
Does she know she’s talking to Hans Solo
Da'Vine Joy Randolph is such an incredible actress! as horrible as The Idol was, she was the standout of the cast and her performance in The Holdovers deserves the best supporting actress at the Oscars
I'm one of the few who actually liked most of The Idol
The Idol was pretty great if you actually followed the arc. In the end the show (thank to Da'vines character) did a great juxtaposition between good and bad management. The presence of Da'vine showed that you can get great work out of young talent without psychologically manipulating them. She was a great antagonist to Tedros.
@@christianburke734then you are sick and perverted guy
The Idol was horrible, but Da’Vine has been a standout every single time I’ve seen her onscreen.
@@StinaB9literally everything! Big or small role she still SHINES
Her character in holdovers was so lovely. And she made the most of her scenes in the idol absolutely stole the show.
This was a terrific conversation between Da'Vine Joy Randolph & Alden Ehrenreich. It was a knuckle-cracking good time because these two had a real honest conversation. They listened to each other - they talked honestly about their experiences - they were interested in what each had to say. And the direction was good - the cuts between them worked because the director and the studio camera are also listening to what they're saying. A good studio director catches the look and the thought and can more deeply involve us in the conversation by how they cut back and forth between the people on set. And I love the camera angles. Again we're looking straight on not sideways. This is how to shoot these interviews. Great job all around. Loved it!
Maybe my favorite pairing of this set. Two of my favorite performances this year came from these two, very underrated actors
the person who paired them has such a huge beautiful brain
This was a great convo- I hope they continued chatting after this!
I feel like they were both just vibing at the same frequency! Like, moving from topic to topic but still each relating to each other so well
It would be so nice to come to a comment section that isnt filled with awful people.
Glad to see her getting more spotlight as she should have had for Dolemite is My Name (which may be the Ruth Carter project she's referring to).
I love that she was the calming presence throughout the movie, yet her life was in chaos. She deserves the Oscar.
I love how subtle her performance is. You are told that she’s suffered an intense loss but on the surface you believe she’s pushing through. Then when she eventually breaks down you realize she was never okay.
@@jacklemm1518 she played the truth of grief perfectly
It almost felt like there could have been a second part.
I remember from Alden from ‘Beautiful Creatures’. So charming and cute.
Love the meta conversation about "doing press"! What a smart conversation.
Da’Vine seems like such a wonderful person that puts a lot of care into the roles she plays. I’m definitely looking forward to watching her career move upwards. It was nice to hear Alden take us through his process and to see him in a lot of cool stuff lately. They were both very respectful and seemed to understand each other on a creative level.
I need the part two of this! They definitely had more to say lol.
Alden-heads stay winning
I like hearing Da’Vine’s talking about her choices in acting. And I like Alden’s discussion/points about the alter-ego,
Beautiful creatures anyone?
Oh yes.. still hoping for a sequal.
Many thanks to Da'Vine, Alden and everyone at Variety! 🎬
Really enjoyed this and would have liked to hear more about his performance, too, as I think he had a very difficult task in that role, which he pulled off brilliantly.
Da’Vine for best supporting actress! Hearing her conversation made me fall in love with her and her performance in The Holdovers even more.
I need them both in more projects theyre so good😭
shouldn’t the Julia Child series be the HBO show?
i love that this was such an honest conversation regarding what the business is like
Great dialogue. Thank you for an unexpected pairing.
She's the ONLY reason i was able to withstand a couple of episodes of the Idol and it was because of Da'vine, The weekend was beyond awful like should never act again and lets just say Liy got her beauty from her dad and mum but not his talent. ive seen her on other things, she just cant act.
Ok I need an extended version of this conversation!!!
Da'Vine is so hot! Love her
I loved how honest there two were. Great pairing and conversation!
*whoever was in charge of this pairing deserves a raise - seriously*
bro, how do you even know? The vid just dropped and you didn't even watch it. Are we copying all comments now?
Stop it bot
This was such a good talk, but why does it end so abruptly? A word from the editors pleeeease 😅
I appreciate how Da'Vine mentioned she does what she does for the love of the craft rather than people-pleasing/fame. That is why she is in a league of her own and being recognized for her phenomenal acting! And she can SANG, too - she was stellar in "Rustin" as Mahalia Jackson and emanated the essence of the late singer. May God continue to bless, fortify, and propel her career to new heights with her pure soul.
She's so good in The Holdvers.
I loved Da’Vine in The Idol. She stole the whole show. Even in this interview, you can’t stop watching her. Can’t wait to see what she does next.
Alden just casually cracking his knuckles xP
I have a HUUUUUGE crush on Alden ❤❤❤❤
This mightve been the best one actually
This guy is cute
I’ve loved Da’Vine since I first saw her in Selfie and idk where that was in her career, but I’m so glad to see her flourishing. That show was not appreciated and it was just about to take off when it was cancelled. Karen Gillan and John Cho too, it was just an amazing cast.
My page is dedicated to Selfie! Karen Gillan and John Cho met to talk about a Selfie movie. Da'vine Joy also gave a shoutout to the show recently
Just like High Fidelity. She channels Jack Black but kept her spin on it. She is brilliant
the way i stan Miss Da'Vine Joy Randolph is astounding. one of our new greats building her legacy
He reminds me so much of Anton Yelchin.
I remember Da'Vine in High Fidelity with Zoe Kravitz...and she completely stood out. I loved her character..
I love this pair. Actually I love all this seasons pairs 😊
I love Alden sm
Love these two together!
da'vine joy randolph we gon get you that oscar baby
Shell win supporting actress
Alden Ehrenreich delivered an impressive performance in Fair Play.
This was a great conversation, definitely felt like it could be longer. Hear a bit more from Alden. The Idol was a terrible show and Rolling Stone did not tank it, it created interest. She was the best thing in it though.
Why does she look exactly like the woman in Dolemite?!!? 😩 Really looking forward to seeing more from her (both of them really!)
You might be kidding but that is her. She’s great.
Same actress lol
She is, thats is absolutely her
Alden is gonna be one of the next big boys in Hollywood.
And this is why she won the golden globe and will win the Oscar too! So much detail and love went into this role. She deserves this win!
Alden’s performance in fair play was so fcking good. One of the most underrated in 2023.
What I love about this episode is how detailed they got about the preparation and the stages involved during film promotions. Really gives you a beautiful insight into actors’ lives
I feel like no one understands & loves the holdovers in the way I do (I'm well aware that it's not true), incredible performance!!
What a pair!!
I have watched quite a few of these Actot on Actor conversations, and this was one of the best! Two great talents, and so interesting
Wonderful conversation... really enjoyed this!
all of these have been great but this one should have been two hours
Congratulations Da'Vine!
