Mary and SWV had that New York swag with the jerseys and bandanas etc. EVERY other female R&B artist who was out at that time had a much cleaner “well put together” image until Mary and SWV stepped on the scene. Then other female R&B artists started doing the same thing such as Xscape, Aaliyah, etc. That tomboy swag was “in” because Mary and SWV made that trend popular‼️ Same thing goes for Coko and her nails, of course some people at that time had long nails, but she made it POPULAR and had every girl all around the world wanting to get acrylics.
