Yes, it was a Mages employee fan of Famicom Detective Club who actually proposed to Nintendo to bring back the franchise in the first place, so they actually put a lot of passion into it, specially for this new game, as much as saying it took them 3 times more to develop than other games. Also, I don’t know if I’m just too used to the gameplay, but I think it highly improves from the previous two games, the actions are way more logical (I’ve rarely found myself spam clicking them) as long as you are well aware of how to use them and what the game is expecting, which yeah, might require a bit of familiarity with this type of games. The action menu issues you mention, I think it’s because they keep the original Japanese menu, just translated to English, but certainly they might look a bit confusing nowadays, because it’s a old games kind-of mechanics (for example Call/Engage is to “Get the attention or engage with a new target”, Ask/Listen is to “Start/follow inquiring from previous dialogues or lines of reasoning”). Overall it’s an awesome game indeed, and as you said, the music is amazing, you will love it if you are into retro music (80/90 Japanese Citypop vibes!) Great game and great review Jordan! Happy to see you reviewing a VN, it’s been a long long time! Please Keep them coming in your spare time! Cheers! 😀
I have the same. I can't find right now nothing like this. I had same situation after playing Disco Elysium. We just need to wait for another masterpiece like this
I was out driving on Sunday and decided on a whim to try and grab this. VNs aren't usually my cup of tea, but this one looked interesting so I wanted to give it a shot. However, I checked 3 different stores and none of them had it. Seems like it's going to be a lower print run here in America as well. Came home and ordered a copy from VGP (using one of your links, of course), and also ordered a copy of Anno: Mutationem for the PS5 as well, as VGP is saying they have the European physical copy in stock (I didn't realize it was already out). Should hopefully have both by the end of the week or the beginning of next week.
I didn’t have this on my radar but you giving it such praise as well as a 10/10 from Noisy Pixel and you saying the print run was small here in Europe I had to order it. Seems easy enough to get a hold off here in Sweden at least for now.
Not to mention you get a 20 mins high quality full animation at the ending part explaining everything lolz I never seen any games dare doing that. Even Persona series don't have cut scene this long. (combining all cutscene i mean, still not that long)
I REALLY hope Nintendo gives us the other two physically... I doubt but I hope lol. Hell even individually Id buy them. Also I beat Emio yesterday and it is so good... such a sad story. They did a fantastic job.
This is the only VN I have ever bought. Not into VNs but this is a different beast. Already bagged the CE too, don’t sit on it, it’s not a “maybe” it’s a definite.
I played this without watching or listening so you could get a view without anything being spoiled. I just moved and I don't have a TV just yet to play together with my wife.
yep at first it put me off as it's a very old style Yu-No like VN and as u say sometimes u try it all until it works (even tho the right selection randomly flashes in yellow for half a second if u notice)... but it is interesting nonetheless! Well I am still at chapter 3.. up to this point the deductions are super easy tho, basic text comprehension. Story is good. I hope they'll release the physical for the previous two in the west now!
If you think the game doesn't hint you on the order of sequences I'm worry about your reading capacities cause this title hints you a lot. If this was The Missing Heir I could buy that argument but if The Girl Who Stands Behind improved that regard this one does it even more.
I tried the demo from Switch eShop. My first "VN" game ever. It was okay until the game didn't progress, then after trial and error the game progressed after talking to the same person(s) again, and/or choosing certain menu options again. I have to say, this kind of game mechanic is not fun for me. Basically, game progression depends on the player interacting correctly in terms of the sequence of options/events and the number of times correctly. Such that if/when you are stuck, it becomes a random click-fest through all the options with no logic. It's all pre-determined by the game designer. You are boxed-in and confined with no ability to really do what you want, the progression is rigid af. Definitely not my kind of game. This demo saved me money!
It's not a random click fest or ridge game design. Emio has been highly streamlined but still requires the player to pay attention and participate. They give you hints and even highlight text so you know how to progress. They didn't want the player to mindlessly mash A throughout the game. Other adventure games like Danganronpa and Ace Attorney.
@@houragents5490 That's what i ended up doing when the scene didn't progress, and i couldn't do anything else but just click on each of the options and see what happens. That's a retarded game mechanic.
Purchase a physical copy here: videogamesplus.ca/jtzrg8
You sold me on this - this looks amazing - and it will be my first VN game 😊❤
I picked this up and finished it yesterday that story had me gripped!! Also praying for that double pack…
Would be very nice

Tried the demo and absolutely loved it, this even being my 1st vn.

After playing the demo I preordered the game. I wasn't feeling it at first but then I got comfortable with the game and started to enjoy it.

Picked this up on launch, its really decent. Loving it.
I still think about how intense that epilogue was. Definitely one of the craziest things Nintendo have made internally.
Great video! 1:24 it’s funny how my preferences are the complete opposite, in VNs I like great characters and little mystery lol
Good review! I don't have a Switch unfortunately but will hopefully get to try this game one day

Physical copy hard to find
Playasia.
i just walked into the target store on its release day and they had multiple in stock. it wasn’t hard to find
I love phoenix wright and hoping for more games like it i will probably get this one during a sale
Nintendo doesn't do sales very often especially for smaller titles like this one.

Mayhaps on Black Friday it'll be on sale somewhere.

That yellow thing, I was going to mention, but it only does it some of the time. Not all of the time which is weird
i gave this game a chance, the story and ending was interesting but i’m not really into these type of games. its an ok game and my first vn

This channel is only three years old 😂.

It only does that like half the time. But thanks for worrying.
