Mats Sundin. He is the last great Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had it all, he gave it all. First ever 1st overall from Europe, if I remember correctly. Patrik Elias. Underrated like Martin St.Louis. Scott Stevens: His hits costed Eric Lindros his career Evgeny Nabokov: The closest to Hasek you dont know of. Tie Domi: The player everybody hated, until he was on their team. Pavel Bure: The Russian Rocket Dominik Hasek: The Goalie GOAT Peter Forsberg: The total Package Niklas Lidström: The D GOAT The so called Russian 5, who changed the NHL forever. (Larionov, Konstantinov, Federov, Kozlov, Fetisov) The Niedermeyer brothers: They won a Cup together Alexander Mogilny: For his story of leaving the Soviet Union to play hockey in the best league on the planet. Curtis Joseph: My favorite Goalie Darcy Tucker: My favorite player Jaromir Jagr: In case you dont know him. Mr I still play at 50 home in my own club at Kladno. Mr. 2nd behind Gretzky in the alltime scorerlist. The late 90s to early 00s was peak NHL to me... I sure missed some, but those are the players, that caught my eye and made me a life long fan of hockey. Although, I seem to have picked the wrong franchise back in 1999, when I decided to follow Curtis Joseph and becoming a Leafer. The other two I was looking to were the Flyers and Wings. 27 years later, the Wings lost several cups and a guy, who played the same youth team, as I did is their top defenceman. :D But you choose, you stay. Win, loss or tie, I bleed blue until I die! Honor.Pride.Courage. Should the Hockey god have mercy, I will witness a Cup before I die and I know exactly, how the city of Toronto will look that day. The fans of the Leafs deserve it! The franchise doenst. And that is why they are, where they are... But that is another story. :D
Datsyuk was way better than Sanders. Sanders won 1 playoff game, ever. Datsyuk won 2 championships, and was voted the best player in the league, by the players in the league.
I’m a brother from Detroit I watched him grow up. We were spoiled as red wings fans in the late 90s to the late 2000s we had it all as fans. They actually look good this year
I hear you brother as I lived in Windsor at the time and went to many of those games at Joe Louis and was fortunate to see many legends in the Olympia room
Feel that. I met Kronwall, Lindstrom at a VG grocery store one time, man those late 90s to mid 2000s. Pure gold. I miss the D . Would love to move back.
brother, the zetterberg datsyuk years were candy to grow up on, even though my team had subban, markow, price, we never couldve made it that far, cause of fucking marc bergevin. fun fact: hes a wanted man in quebec, so he hasnt shown up since resingin
yup, practiced that for hours on end and aside from Mike Legg at U of M STANDING BEHIND THE GOAL AND SOMEHOW MANAGING TO GET THE PUCK ON THE BLADE OF HIS STICK SO HE COULD WALK IT OUTFRONT AND BASICALLY THROW IT IN THE NET ON THE SHORTSIDE...wtf? on ice? tha shit's hard on carpet
Correct: Lady Byng: the Best / least penalized, most gentleman player… ie Gretzky, Kopitar The Selke is the best Two Way Forward… ie Sasha Barkov, Patrice Bergeron
Pavel was the man. I used to watch every Detroit game I could even if Detroit was never "my team". Pavel was just that fun to watch. So many current players are so slick directly because they watched Datsyuk as kids.
Total body of work over time, I lean to Stevie Y. 22 Seasons wearing the "C" even at 18. speed, stickhandling, backchecking, balanced goals to assists ratio. much more balanced than the rest of the guys in the top tier of scorers.
Agreed. He truly is one of the purest, and most highly talented players I've ever seen. Datsyuk is the man. Had no reason for humility yet it eclipsed his talent too. And to retire because he couldn't spend enough time with his kid? Young generations should be inspired by him both on and more importantly, OFF the ice.
native Detroiter here, I love that you reacted to this not just for clicks, but you genuinely seemed interested in the story. Datsyuk is a childhood hero of mine, and a legend in Detroit. Great video
Selke Trophy is given to the best defensive forward. Lady Byng is given for sportsmanship. Usually the person who took the least penalties throughout the season.
@Warframe-AB I dont know about top 10. That was Bergeron's for a long time and he was only like a 70-90 pt player at his peak. Its more about minutes really. If you're out there playing hard minutes and not taking penalties its a feature players notice quick.
And they didnt even show imo the best clip of him against ! Against Boston in 2014, In full skating motion he drag the puck with one hand from behind him, almost from blue line to the other blue line, without losing any speed and scores.. That was filthy !
@ItsKayv1 there is a clip on youtube of one of his teammates doing it in front of Pavel and he starts laughing and trying to hide his face in embarrassment. He was so humble.
Watching him live was a treat. Aside from highlight reel plays he made, I got to see him fight Corey Perry at a home opener game, which was one of only two fighting majors that he got in his entire career.
One of the biggest fans . Been to all parades for the cup . Very spoiled in my life with the wings. Appreciate your love for one of the Hardest sports .
Im really going to have to start tapping in with hockey. Got free tickets to my first semi-pro hockey game a couple months back and it was a good time. Seeing this highlights makes me want to start watching more frequently.
Looking back, I was lucky I got to watch this guy play growing up. Great memories sitting at home and watching the games with my dad when I was younger. Never realized until now that this team was one of the bigger things my Dad and I bonded over. Sweet video and thanks for the reminding me of good memories.
He is absolutely the smoothest p,ayer of all time, I grew up watching him as a Wings fan. Rewatching this as an adult... he is unlike any other player I have ever seen, his puck handling and overall play was and is unlike anyone who has ever played before. A true legend in sports history.
Aye Bro I'm with you. He may not be the best statistics wise but in order to bring in a bigger audience to the sport he is THE FIRST PLAYER YOU PICK. His game is relatable to basketball on offense and football on defense. And by the way, you won't find a better stick handler than him 😂.
Zetterberg and Datsyuk combo was goated, I’m a Boston fan and back in highschool when I played NHL all the time I played them over Boston. Always loved that duo and the talent and chemistry they had
Silky mitts just means he's got dank hands (incredible puck control). I'm so glad you're checking this out, as a Detroit native, this man defined the Red Wings for most of my life. He made pros look like kids looking for their Legos. Him and Zetterberg were a dynamic duo that were incredible at offense and defense. Add in Lidstrom and the wings were titans for a decade.
This was the transitionary period from grit to skill in the NHL. he was burning a lot of traditional NHL grit guys and it really showed especially early in his career, it was insane to watch Selke is also the best defensive forward award
I love your videos bro and while I am an old head I guess, I enjoy seeing people find new things no matter what it is and you're doing a great job. I have a nerve disorder so I have a lot of time on my hands and watch all these videos so keep up the great work
The dude was UNREAL. His highlight reels don’t do him justice, there was so much more there. Even though the highlight reels are absolutely bonkers. The Magic Man was one of a kind.
I personally have never seen a player with such control and tightness of the puck like Datsyuk and I've been watching hockey for over 25 yrs. Absolute god. Glad you're seeing his highlights cause he deserves ALL the shine!
Before the Internet and cameras being everywhere, it seemed there were more players who unexpectedly became stars. Scouts needed to travel to see young players, and they didn't always to see those who played in remote cities.
Who should Gen Z discover next in this series? 🤔🔥 Drop a legend’s name in the comments and tell me why… the most liked one might be the next video 👀💯
Mats Sundin. He is the last great Captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had it all, he gave it all. First ever 1st overall from Europe, if I remember correctly.

The so called Russian 5, who changed the NHL forever. (Larionov, Konstantinov, Federov, Kozlov, Fetisov)
The Niedermeyer brothers: They won a Cup together
Alexander Mogilny: For his story of leaving the Soviet Union to play hockey in the best league on the planet.
Curtis Joseph: My favorite Goalie
Darcy Tucker: My favorite player
Jaromir Jagr: In case you dont know him. Mr I still play at 50 home in my own club at Kladno. Mr. 2nd behind Gretzky in the alltime scorerlist.

If Barry Sanders played hockey... he would be Pavel Datsyuk.
Facts
both Detroit lifers
BOOM! My friends and I called him Das-Sick because he was and always be🤘🏾✌🏾💯
I was just going to comment that. And this style of elite player is short to medium height. super agile juke masters.

When you saw your team was gonna play Detroit in the 2000's, you tuned in for one man. Datsyuk was a sorcerer.
brother, the zetterberg datsyuk years were candy to grow up on, even though my team had subban, markow, price, we never couldve made it that far, cause of fucking marc bergevin. fun fact: hes a wanted man in quebec, so he hasnt shown up since resingin
The backhand toe drag is the smoothest, most disgusting dangle ever
Legendary move ! Every NHL fan knows what a Datsyuk deke is 😅
yup, practiced that for hours on end and aside from Mike Legg at U of M STANDING BEHIND THE GOAL AND SOMEHOW MANAGING TO GET THE PUCK ON THE BLADE OF HIS STICK SO HE COULD WALK IT OUTFRONT AND BASICALLY THROW IT IN THE NET ON THE SHORTSIDE...wtf? on ice? tha shit's hard on carpet
You won’t find a better player with handles as good as Pav. He is 1 of 1 and there isn’t a close second.
@keitherickson8404it's called a Michigan.
The Lady Bing trophy is the equivalent to the Joe Dumars award in the NBA, you have to be a great player but show incredible sportsmanship as well.
🙏🏾🙏🏾
@ItsKayv1no problem
usually it means lots of points and very few penalty mins lol
Paw-vill Dot-sook. Pavel is the Russian version of Paul. This dude was like a J-Will "White Chocolate" on the ice.
Correct: Lady Byng: the Best / least penalized, most gentleman player… ie Gretzky, Kopitar
The Selke is the best Two Way Forward… ie Sasha Barkov, Patrice Bergeron
👋THAT'S THE MAGIC MAN👋
he is the best dangler for sure !!! what a beast and was soo nice to watch hockey at his prime with zetterberg !
Pavel was the man. I used to watch every Detroit game I could even if Detroit was never "my team". Pavel was just that fun to watch. So many current players are so slick directly because they watched Datsyuk as kids.
Datsyuk is the best hockey player I've ever seen and I've been a fan since the early 70's and seen them all.
Total body of work over time, I lean to Stevie Y. 22 Seasons wearing the "C" even at 18. speed, stickhandling, backchecking, balanced goals to assists ratio. much more balanced than the rest of the guys in the top tier of scorers.
@keitherickson8404 Yzerman was great, especially in his younger years but my eyes has still never seen anything like Datsyuk.
As you pointed out, his stick handling was absolutely out of this world.
Datsuk is on every nhl players top 5. Dude was just a complete stud. Another perfect hockey human.
native Detroiter here, I love that you reacted to this not just for clicks, but you genuinely seemed interested in the story. Datsyuk is a childhood hero of mine, and a legend in Detroit. Great video
He’s the Barry Sanders of Hockey, imo.
Pavel might be the greatest two way player of alltime
It’s him, Bergeron, or Sid. Imo Sid is the best 200 foot player ever
@Whatdoyouwant904 You dont even believe this
@thecanriganyone with a brain believes that, Sid does it all and has been a PPG player for 20 years in a row.
Aint no " might " about it...
Yeah 💯
Definitely tap in with some Mario Lemieux highlights
Nobody has hands like 13. Datsyuk forever. Respect from Finland.
Selke Trophy is given to the best defensive forward. Lady Byng is given for sportsmanship. Usually the person who took the least penalties throughout the season.
While also playing a lot of minutes 💁🏻♂️
Exactly. But you can't just be a clean player with average skills. Being arguably a top 10 player in the league is mandatory.
@Warframe-AB I dont know about top 10. That was Bergeron's for a long time and he was only like a 70-90 pt player at his peak. Its more about minutes really. If you're out there playing hard minutes and not taking penalties its a feature players notice quick.
Yea it's low penalty minutes while playing at a high level of competitive competition
@justinfalzon6854hockey is about much more than scoring points brother. Bergy is the best defensive forward of all time.
And they didnt even show imo the best clip of him against ! Against Boston in 2014, In full skating motion he drag the puck with one hand from behind him, almost from blue line to the other blue line, without losing any speed and scores.. That was filthy !
This the kind of video Pavel Datsyuk would watch and say "Woohoo" to
we are the lucky ones to be able to witness hockey history
Pavel Bure, Sergei Federov... the Russians (Soviets) coming to the NHL changed the sport.
Didn’t Mogilny like, pop that open
*Fedorov
Let's not forget Mogilny
@justinfalzon6854Yep, he defected from the USSR to become a superstar
@francisbielka2718 just got his flowers too I think into the Hall. Well deserved.
Good point about the scout part and sergi haha
when you asked siri, "who is the magic man?" she would bring up Pavel datsyuk.
Aura 🙏🏾
@ItsKayv1 there is a clip on youtube of one of his teammates doing it in front of Pavel and he starts laughing and trying to hide his face in embarrassment. He was so humble.
So blessed i got to watch him play. But now i really miss the dude on the wings
When him and zetterberg where there it was prime hockey at its best
I love that you know Sergei Fedorov!!!
This video only scratches the surface of his highlights. You gotta watch a full highlight reel.
Silky is just his smooth almost effortless stickhandling, skill, and ability
Watching him live was a treat. Aside from highlight reel plays he made, I got to see him fight Corey Perry at a home opener game, which was one of only two fighting majors that he got in his entire career.
Love stories like Pavel, it's rare in these days to find a hidden jem
That slow roll over the stick or the datsuykian deke were against turco and niemi who were both amazing players at the time
Pavel has some of the best handles hockey has ever seen
Crosby is still playing, he is in his 21st season all with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Id recommend watching him, but his story isnt over yet
One of the biggest fans . Been to all parades for the cup . Very spoiled in my life with the wings. Appreciate your love for one of the Hardest sports .
I grew up as a wings fan watching him every game. I promise, your reaction to him was exactly how me and my dad reacted every time. It never got old.
So glad I grew up watching him. Literally had no idea how easy he was making the game look. Detroit Legend
A Silkie award is for the best Forward that excel in Defense in hockey
Love these videos. I gotta check out your other series
Facts 👌 in appreciate that bro
Im really going to have to start tapping in with hockey. Got free tickets to my first semi-pro hockey game a couple months back and it was a good time. Seeing this highlights makes me want to start watching more frequently.
Alex Hemsky and Patrick Kane are amazing as well
It was Number 39 on the sharks birthday in that clip where Datsyuk broke his ankles 😂
Looking back, I was lucky I got to watch this guy play growing up. Great memories sitting at home and watching the games with my dad when I was younger. Never realized until now that this team was one of the bigger things my Dad and I bonded over. Sweet video and thanks for the reminding me of good memories.

Ultimate gate keeping and mother nature. Kudos for Ken Holland to listening
My fav player …. 13 days ago … I gotta peep this
Pavel has the best puck handling I’ve seen in the NHL.
21:41 This happened on Logan Couture's (the guy who gets his ankles broken) birthday, lmao.
21:40 fun fact: that zigzag deek was on Couture's birthday. What a 🎁
Wayne gretzky played for the st louis blues for the end of the 1995-96 season. Brett hull was one of his line mates
Datsyuk is a legend. He's called the magic man for a reason!
Pavel: "I trust my eyes to Doctor Ramani. You should, too."
Probably best handles of all time! So filthy! If you haven’t checked out the Russian rocket pavel bure one of the greats!
8:24 - Watch a video on the Russian Five.
не ожидал в час ночи увидеть это видео ещё и про екб
Pavel Bure is another amazing skater and if you wanna see speed on ice holy crap
Players now might be faster than Bure, but Bure was so much faster than his peers at the time that it didn’t look fair.
I thought you would be talking about Kent Nilsson.
The Selke award for the best two way player. Meaning playing good offence and defence
Zetterberg and Datsyuk....sheesh those were the days!!!🐙
Aye Bro I'm with you. He may not be the best statistics wise but in order to bring in a bigger audience to the sport he is THE FIRST PLAYER YOU PICK. His game is relatable to basketball on offense and football on defense. And by the way, you won't find a better stick handler than him 😂.
Facts🙏🏾💯, preach!! In dang there’s no way is there anybody even close with the puck handles
He is one of those rare players where NO one dislikes him.
OK Google... Who is the Magic Man... even Google knows.
Zetterberg and Datsyuk combo was goated, I’m a Boston fan and back in highschool when I played NHL all the time I played them over Boston. Always loved that duo and the talent and chemistry they had
Pavel Datsyuk he was my favorite to watch, loved it when the wings got the cup with him again in 08
Red Wings scouts were and still are very, very good at their jobs.
Datsyuk is the player that made me fall in love with hockey. Unreal control of the puck. "The Magic Man" is a well deserved nickname.
THAT KYIRE ANOLOGY IS ON POINT.
The magic man beat I ever seen
This dude needs to watch ovechkin and crosby highlights lol
I played hockey and watched hockey all my life, he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.
Was waiting for your reaction to his flipping the puck over the goalie move. It did not disappoint. 👍🏻
His top 3 in my all time list in not 3
Pavel was so AMAZING!
waiting to see you checkout Ovechkin (greatest hits and goals) and Mcdavid.
This was the transitionary period from grit to skill in the NHL. he was burning a lot of traditional NHL grit guys and it really showed especially early in his career, it was insane to watch
Selke is also the best defensive forward award
You need to watch best nhl crossover moments! One of the nastiest videos I’ve seen
Bet
Watch Mario Lemieux highlihts
Look Up the Russian 5. Great highlights and a great story how it came to be one of the best lines in Hockey
8:30 proper reaction lmao. 9?! We were so damn spoiled 😂😂😂
I love your videos bro and while I am an old head I guess, I enjoy seeing people find new things no matter what it is and you're doing a great job. I have a nerve disorder so I have a lot of time on my hands and watch all these videos so keep up the great work
Thanks 🙏🏾 I really appreciate that I’m sorry to hear that I hope life gets better in I hope you life a happy healthy one bro
14:43 - One of the most iconic moves in NHL history. Dude was a freaking wizard, his game was so deceitful !!
He had by far the nastiest handles I’ve ever seen in my life as a hockey player.
silky means he's nice w it
Gotta check out Alex Ovechkin
Have you seen Dustin Byfugelin? Hes got handles of a complete different kind
Ovechkin!!!
The dude was UNREAL. His highlight reels don’t do him justice, there was so much more there. Even though the highlight reels are absolutely bonkers. The Magic Man was one of a kind.
The NHL does have skills competitions for their All-Star games just like the NBA
You have to do a McDavid video.
I personally have never seen a player with such control and tightness of the puck like Datsyuk and I've been watching hockey for over 25 yrs. Absolute god. Glad you're seeing his highlights cause he deserves ALL the shine!
Youd enjoy patrick kane as well
Patrick Kane next
Before the Internet and cameras being everywhere, it seemed there were more players who unexpectedly became stars. Scouts needed to travel to see young players, and they didn't always to see those who played in remote cities.
You have to watch Patrick Kane’s highlights.
ruclips.net/video/GWkHGHhCPak/video.html
Welcome to a legend
Datsyuk is the Barry Sanders of Hockey.
Forget sydney crosby, check out mario lemieux!
YT Pavel Datsyuk goal show
You really need to watch Peter Forsberg, Sergei Fedorov and Pavel Bure
I'm a Montreal Canadiens fan..... and he is one of my favorite players
