The monarchy is an important aspect and reflection of this nation's history. After abolishing the Canadian Red Ensign as the flag, The Maple Leaf Forever as the anthem, and retiring the name the Dominion of Canada as well as Dominion Day, the monarchy is all that we have left connecting us to the motherland. The reason this country exists is because of Britain, and we can thank Britain for the fact this land we call Canada is not a part of the United States. The government revolves around the monarchy. We are fortunate to have the system that we have. Most Canadian's don't fully understand how relevant our monarchy is; due to lack of education on this subject in schools. Studies prove that they are overall a superior system of government... most countries with the best quality of life are monarchies. Let's just keep things as is and educate ourselves on how our parliamentary system works!
your speech is useless, Canada is a monarchy only from a formal point of view, de facto it is already a republic, it would be a matter of formalizing it. Don't you think that the French-Canadians have no desire to submit, even if only formally, to the British crown? Furthermore, I remind you that a correlation is not always an indication of a cause and effect link, republics are often poorer because poor countries are those with an unstable past, which have seen wars and revolutions. In my opinion, you are reversing the cause and effect, monarchies do not make countries more stable, but historically stable countries are the ones that have allowed monarchies to survive. Of course this is not always the case, because the world is more complicated, but this also applies to your vision.

Canada is one of the longest continuing monarchies in the world... starting with the French monarchy, then the British monarchy and now the Canadian monarchy (which is legally distinct from the British crown.. we just have the same person wearing our crowns). I don't recall being surveyed in the question of the separation from the British Monarchy. Who was surveyed, how many, from what Provinces, and by whom exactly?
The Angus Reid Institute asked a variety of questions to 1898 Canadian adults in an online survey held from 26-29 November: 234 from BC, 184 from Alberta, 143 from Sask, 145 from Manitoba, 553 from Ontario, 455 from Quebec and 184 from the Atlantic. 55%-45% support Canada continuing to recognise the Queen "by swearing oaths to her, putting her on currency, and recognizing her as official head of state". 34%-66% oppose Canada continuing to recognise Charles as the new King "by swearing oaths to him, putting himon currency, and recognizing him as official head of state". The headline figure was 25%-52% oppose Canada remaining a constitutional monarchy for generations to come. A plurality support either the Prime Minister (27%) or an elected, US-style head of government (20%) to become head of state, while 18% would support a Canadian governor general, and 8% the Speaker of the House.

It's a matter of national identity and pride to have our own head of state, and not rely on Britain to give us one--least of all from a single, caucasian, Protestant-only family. We need to look at options before the queen dies, so she has the distinction of being the last British monarch over Canada. We’ve amended the Constitution before, and we can do it again. It means 11 legislatures need to agree by just 50% + 1. And I suspect it will be much higher than that.
She's the queen of Canada. Britain doesn't have a figure head over Canada. The Queen of England isn't the Queen of Canada and vice versa. She just assumes the responsibility of both crowns, Canada can even form its own crown with its own leader separate from the English crown. Also the government and even the provinces acknowledge that the viability of Canada becoming a republic is next to none. The Queen doesn't tell Canada what to do, in fact, the Governor General has limited powers as it is. So idea of Canada ditching the Monarchy to me makes little sense. Because Canada has it's full sovereignty.

It does more good than harm. Liberals have no respect for this nation's history or identity. God Save the Queen and protect the Canadian Crown!

I will choose being a republic over a monarchy, every single time. Keep that antique system witin the British borders.
As long as the referendum starts, the question will be whether or not you are confident with the current Canadian institutional and constitutional system without talking about monarchy and republicanism.
@@slavianalbanovich9025 Explain how Canada is a de facto republic? All of our government institutions are nearly identical to those of the UK... we are a constitutional monarchy there's no question about that. French Canadian's accept that - many may not agree with it, but they accept it (FYI I am French-Canadian).
I get where you're coming about how many of republics are poor due to unstable pasts. However, it's still hard to deny a monarchy's effectiveness with 9 out of the 15 countries with the best quality of life are constitutional monarchies. Canada is one of the longest continuing monarchies in the world... starting with the French monarchy, then the British monarchy and now the Canadian monarchy (which is legally distinct from the British crown.. we just have the same person wearing our crowns). The monarchy is a major part of Canadian history. The fact is, if it weren't for it, we would've been annexed by the US many of years ago.

What was that quote again something like “America will become a republic if they can keep it” the queen will go and the no else in the royal family can be trusted after her we as a nation need to start talking about this
It's a matter of national identity and pride to have our own head of state, and not rely on Britain to give us one--least of all from a single, caucasian, Protestant-only family. We need to look at options before the queen dies, so she has the distinction of being the last British monarch over Canada. We’ve amended the Constitution before, and we can do it again. This is something most Canadians already support, and an opportunity to bring Quebec into the fold (support for a republic is at 72% there). Unanimity doesn’t mean we must all agree.
Barbados isn't Canada, our political stability as a constitutional monarchy keeps investors and businesses running that and the added bonus that the westminster system is almost 1000 years old and proven resilient
The question is not if Canada wants to become a republic or not, the question is rather do we have the appetite to open up lingering questions that comes with the process of amending the constitution.
I don't have a problem with Canada remaining a Constitutional Monarchy. But if a significant majority wants us to be a republic, I am fine with that too.

Whether Britain ever wants to be a republic ...I say this to Brits careful what you wish for .But saying this I couldn't never understand why for the life of me does Canada want to stay a monachy even Australia New Zealand and a lot of other countries too .But Canada surprises me the most it change its flag some court precedures currency .it even declared war a week or two in ww11 late it's kinda of weird that Canadians exclaim they're independent but yet they still latch on to a colonial past .as does Australia too .Its really strange and condadicting in some ways .monachnist say they don't want to insult the queen .NO these's apron stringers holders on are insulting them selves Not Betty .Elizebeth should have in the 60s then a young queen should have gotten all the pm's of their country and say guys it's time you all stand on your own two feet .Like a lot of republican countries have within the commonwealth.
Yes
Drop the monarchy
You may say whatever you want, but it won't matter at all. There's still about 95% chance that getting rid of the monarchy cannot or will not ever happen to Canada. Because, what you don't know I assume, the monarchy in Canada is highly protected by Constitutional act 1982. This act has set a bar to abolishing the crown so high, that it's now as difficult as nailing jelly to a tree. Even for Prime Minister himself or his government, this is not something within their capability. It requires a very very special amendment to do it, which will be very difficult to achieve, as well as lengthy and costly. Due to this reason, many political theorist have even labelled abolishing the monarchy in Canada as simply impossible.
Hi everyone well I'm not from Canada but from France and in my opinion I think Canada should remove Queen Elizabeth II because she doesn't have any political power.
Eh... I'd go 50/50 on it. Abolish the post of Governor General, severing the last vestige to the monarchy, and things really just continue on as they are. The government operates "in her name," but nice lady that she is, she's a figure head, and that's all that she really has ever been.
Yes, there should be no heads of state.
We can’t remove it,
The only way is if British became a republic
What's the point of it? Wasting of time!!!
I would be ashamed of us as a country if we did this...
I am a subject of the crown first and a Canadian second
sounds kind of cucked to submit to a ruler who gained that title by birthright… but okay…
