This has just happened for me. My ex is in a very turbulent relationship and he contacted me out of the blue 2 days ago after his gf trashed his house. He told me he missed my friendship and my calming energy, and apologised for anything he'd ever done to hurt me. He said he'd taken me for granted and now that he's with a 'toxic cyclone' he realises how good he had it with me.

Interesting read, Kelli. We've been in no contact for a couple of weeks. I withdrew because he's too protected and distant, even though I know he loves me. Last night I dreamt he was worried that I'm with someone else. I was trying to convince him I'm not. My daughter came in to explain to me how to talk to him. LOL I guess I'm pretty anxiously attached to him, but I am taking control by staying away. I miss him intensely! I believe that both of my true loves have passed away 😢 my best friend and children's father. He got me a little dog a couple years before we separated in 2013 . He continued to be a huge part of my life with non-judgmental support as i said my best friend till the end.
My dachshund was like me furbaby best friend and emotional therapy support and when he was hit by a car and became paralyzed i had to be his support and therapist so we definitely needed each other. I still miss them both terribly and could use their help and support now but i know they're still with me in spirit like my 2 guardian angels.
I've been having issues with my current husband, a cancer, hes secretive and terrible with expressing his thoughts and emotions very stingy financially and controlling to the point that I literally just told him i felt like a prisoner or capture here since I have no money of my own he has control over the one vehicle that still runs since he refuses to get mine fixed. Always has a way of ruining every chance i have of seeing my children and grandchildren always has an excuses or reasons why I can't go. I told him im sick of being stuck in this house his response was that im not chaired or tied down i can leave if i want i said where would i go and how would I get there and he said you'll have to walk i guess.
