Except for the first and inaugural production of LULU in Paris with the title role under the wonderful and almost indescribable interpretation of Teresa Stratas, this is one of the best versions of this masterpiece that I have seen. Thanks for uploading this outstanding production.
Much of the story is lost, or made unintelligible by the stupid minimalist construction masquerading as a set. Why is this now the norm in opera? It is completely ruinous to the intentions of the composer.
Tcherniakov usually mistreats what he touches. I think most of the times he doesn´t even understand the libretto. That happened with his Don Giovanni in Aix en Provence: nonsense everywhere.
Because RUclips exists where we can watch for free with translated subtitles. . . Revenue isn't what it used to be so minimalist sets and anachronistic settings so you don't have to make period costumes will be the norm. Centuries of elitism, and freeloaders like you and I help diminish attendance numbers, and thus the vicious cycle we find ourselves in repeats itself.
If this is minimalism, I am Genghis Khan. I cannot understand why somebody who watches this monumental and superlatively well interpreted version, could call it minimalist. Probably he or she wishes something completely situated in the last part of XIX century or the beginning of the XX. Is there anything wrong in some production which transports the action to the present time? Personally, I am not a fan of the so called Modern versions, but I cannot but admire and applaud something extremely talented that carries LULU to everybody concerned with contemporary art and culture.

Opera extremadamente difícil, excelente elenco, especialmente MARLIS PETERSEN
Wonderful stage and perdormer, is a Great Opera and historic of music
Excellent musicianship all around, however!
Indeed. The playing and singing are as good as the production is horrible.

I completely agree with both of your points
Isn’t #Brecht to blame?
