Incredibly underrated band! Away is the song their best known for, but aside from that they have a sense of maniacal playfulness that is interwoven throughout their songs. Other solid tunes from them are Giants, Hail Mary, Books on the Bonfire, Swings and Roundabouts, Barrowlands, Happy Boy and of course Away
Love the whole album, the early songs are darker, a bit Bauhaus but always with a ironic twist... Sunday Morning was played in every goth discotheque in late 80s. Love your t shirt btw
Alex you the man - thanks for reacting to both of my tracks and giving them a fair listen and analysis. Very thoughtful reactions to both and glad you enjoyed them. I listened to a lot of stuff back in the 80’s that most people didn’t so I thought it might be a good opportunity to expose you to a couple of those bands. Now you lit a match under my a** to get back to reacting and I’ll start off with yours. Thanks man!
For some reason this band was very popular here in Poland, probably because of a cult radio dj named Tomasz Beksinski who commited suicide in 1999 who used to play this a lot as he was very big on gothic rock/post punk, prog rock and darkwave. Also the band played a concert here in the 80s which also could have been a reason. I quite like some of their stuff though it's not my go-to band for this kind of sound
Hi from the U.K. I found The Bolshoi back in 1990 and still have all their albums on regular rotation. The best band no one has heard of. Thanks for the reaction
I am not into seeing bands live. So I’ve only seen a handful of shows …… this, this band I’ve seen live in a very small club in San Antonio Texas in the 80’s when I was in high school. It was a fun show as I recall, very intimate.
I don't think 'Friends' could've been made any better if they'd tried. I could listen to it any day of the year and it never gets dull. It should go down in history as one of the greatest albums of all time. Pure ear candy.
great episode! i cant find you on audea - can you post audio versions of your videos there? would love to listen to them! thanks again for the great content!
Phenomenal band, they just didn't last very long. Plenty of better songs then this in their catalog, I'd say. Nothing wrong with "Sunday Morning," just not my favorite of theirs.
@@david_post_punk If you put a gun to my head, the song I'd pick would probably be "Lindy's Party." Just great emotional lyrics, great song. But honestly, I've been listening to these albums for over 30 years, so while I like some tracks better than others, I would encourage you to listen to both "Lindy's Party" and "Friends" if you liked "Sunday Morning" (which is a really good song, btw), both are really worth a listen. The Bolshoi were pretty awesome- thought provoking, different music, not really Goth, not quite just New Wave, great sense of humor. Always loved this band and still do.

Books On The Bonfire! I had the cassette. The UK cranked out some great new wave, punk, etc
@@mattjohn4731 Awesome! Just the whole “Friends” album is superb
“Away” is a fucking stellar song.

Their debut single "Sob Story" has a fairly gothic sound to it but quickly faded thereafter.

I remember listenning this one and Friends Again "Work of art", discovering both songs, on the same night in an old disappeared radio station

You chose the right day to wear the sola scriptura shirt.
This is probly an extended version that i never heard, I've heard one with music vid and this is a good track indeed
Saw them in about 1988 at my local university.
