RIP Kevin Conroy. This video really holds him in high honor, and rightly so
Damn it's really heartbreaking. He was my favorite VA in any cartoons
we're gonna miss him.
PS: Mark Hamill was going to voice Invader ZIM you know.
the editing and presentation of these videos never stops blowing my mind
oh shit wat up hot boy
+Steve ......someone call the cops fast
didn't mean to see hotboys here
us hot boys roam freely over the landscapes of youtube, seeking out content that is good and true...
+NakeyJakey AYE!
Well the day is here. RIP to my Batman. THE Batman. Mr Conroy you will not be forgotten for a long long time.
The thing I love most about this channel is how it follows the rule of quality over quantity. There isn't a new video everyday but the videos when they come out are master pieces because time and effort was put in.
This is my first time experiencing this channel, and I can already say that it reminds of "Every Frame A Painting" and it's beautiful analysis of film. Only this time with cartoons.
I can completely agree. He covers all aspects of the topic and backs up his main point about the art work (in this case the animated series). I look forward to watching his future videos
Very true
hell yeah
Yes. And we can support by sharing his videos.
Had to come back to re-watch this... RIP Kevin Conroy... to many of us, you are Batman!
"Heart of Ice" still brings goosebumps..one of the best cartoons of all time
Nooo THE best cartoon ever made! Thinking about watching that episode when it originally aired in early nineties still gives me goosebumps Paul Dini is a God.
Oh and that episode won a goddamned Emmy for writing and to think a children's cartoon show from nineties won an Emmy fuckin unbelievable!
I really liked the show up until then, but when Heart of Ice came on was when I started thinking best show ever.
Watching this makes me really interested on your thoughts on Samurai Jack.
Kaptain's take on Samurai Jack is going to be blockbuster. I recently made a Batman video, but I don't think I achieved half of what Kaptain achieved with his Batman video!
Yes
Batman, Calvin and Hobbes, Adult swim...this channel is the greatest
Favorite episode, Gray Ghost. Seeing bruce involved meeting a childhood hero of his and basically fighting along side him later was amazing. You REALLY feel the regret and 'washed up' feeling the old actor has and you feel the excitement and pity bruce has for the character. God that show was amazing, to say the least, amazing.
great episode and funny seeing batman as a fanboy lol but yes you are right it was amazing.
Plus the Gray Ghost was voiced by Batman actor Adam West
that was a nice touch.
That episode in particular had a lot of heart and sincerity in it; Bruce Timm even animated/voiced himself in as the main antagonist, The Mad Bomber. It stands as one of my personal all time favorites of the series and in animation as a whole.
Yes
Bro, you need to take me under your wing in that aesthetically pleasing video editing goodness. Become my sensei.
Rest easy Kevin Conroy. The only answer to who is the best Batman. Even if the response was always who?
I really loved Batman Beyond. Still holds up really well as a scifi version of this iteration. Would love to see a video about that or just the overall progression of Batman through the ages.
Agreed I think Batman Beyond deserves to have its own video as well, it managed to capture the themes of the animated series in an entire different setting and characters.
Of the Batman animated series that I've watched, my favorites are The Batman animated series (the one this video is about), and the 2007 "The Batman" animated series that you can find on Netflix. I haven't personally watched more than a couple episodes of Batman Beyond, but I'll have to try it.
Its worth seeing, because it's a nice take on the possible future of the DCAU, if nothing else, but also has some great unique villains like Blight and Inque. Batman of the Future (as it was known in the UK) and Justice League were what I grew up with on Cartoon Network and were both awesome shows for me as a kid.
Batman beyond is the best. 10/10. Would love to see him talk about that too
Agreed. Batman Beyond deserves more mainstream love. Terry, other than maybe Dick Grayson, is the worthy successor to take up the mantle. Plus how dark and great it was. Stellar voice acting with some outstanding episodes (the Mr. Freeze one). Return of The Joker is a masterpiece! Twisted, badass, and prob in the top 3 DC Animated movies
4:28 *''MYSTERIOUS''* OMG!! i'm speechless
This WHOLE video backs up what I've been begging for... get Timm and Dini to work on the DCCU instead of Snyder and everyone else. These two guys understadn DC better than anyone DC has working on their movies right now.
it would sure be nice to have them back in the driver's seat and see what they do. But part of me thinks it just wouldn't be the same, artists usually don't do well coming back to something much later on. At least, it seems that way
doctacos1
True, but I still feel like even at their worst, they could do better than what we've gotten so far.
Well geoff johns is now attached to dccu. He did an amazing job with dc rebirth and I think he might help a lot
Besides I don't know about Dini but Timm is busy working on #TheKillingJoke with The Batman TAS Voice actors Kevin Conory and Mark Hamill.
There's a whole other argument to support my point. Compare Mark Hamil's the Joker voice and Kevin Conroy's Batman's voice in the post 2005 works to the pre 2005's works. The quality is very different. The voices definitely aren't the same, imo, they are not as good (but I grew up with the latter mentioned voices so I am biased I'll admit).
But that's just nitpicking, the voices are similar enough, but not the same.
I know you heard this a lot but seriously your videos are really something different. Its so fresh and new. Keep it up. You have something unique here.
Good job.
Why don't you have a million Subs already ?
Almost two million views. Only five videos, less than three month old channel? Dude is doing literal top-tier work here. One of the best channels on RUclips.
+Markolore Yessss !! love his work simple, meaningful & Slick. plus his second video is 200k+ away from 1 million views which is amazing to say the least. Hope he gets more recognition.
Because people would rather see cat's do anything or someone dropping an i phone from 100ft....
Blame RUclips
hes still new dude, maybe within half a year or a year or so he will become famous (depends on sharing level of his vids from insta to twatter)
The quality of your videos is so high that it makes my head spin. Im really curious on how you "animate" the still images from comics, making them move so smoothly or even making them talk. Dou you animate/draw them yourself? Do you have access to a super secret animation library I don't know of? Either way, I'd love to know how you pull these videos off(specific programs used), they are incredible. Immediately supporting on patreon, keep up the amazing job!
With the "animating stills" thing I'm referring more to other videos like the xmen one than this one in particular, just comented here since its the most recent.
+Gonzalo Sanz Im pretty sure that he used clips from an X-men motion comic
+andres toro Oh cool didn't think about that possibility! Thanks!
+Andres Toro Still, just think of all the work it takes to write an episode like this one, make a story board for what will show up on every part of the video, find that specific clip, and then put it all together as flawlessly as this.
+GS Film, some of the still frame animation I've seen in these videos can be done with displacement mapping (where the image is affected by a monochromatic gradient and will stretch as the color values change) or puppet pins (which creates a polygon mesh of the object and allows individual node points or polygons to be positioned differently while keeping their relation to neighboring polygons consistent) and definitely possible in programs like Adobe After Effects. If you're curious about specifics I'd Google "displacement maps" and "puppet pin animation".
I've seen too much in these videos to think Kristian's anything less than a skilled animator. It seems like a lot more than simple video editing or splicing together clips, I've caught instances I'm convinced were puppet pins. The X-Men talking section looked to me like 2.5D puppet pin rigging in the style of Daniel Gies, who has a pretty comprehensive video tutorial series on it.
Rest in Peace Kevin Conroy.
Not only the greatest, most definitive Batman of all time, but one of the greatest voice actors ever.
Its a continous stream of quality from this guy
Kaptain is truly a genius! I just released a Batman video myself, but before producing it, I watched kaptain's Batman video a dozen times!
My friend and I sat down last Friday and binged about two hours of this show and it was amazing how much I still to this day love it. Story telling for all ages at it's finest.
One thing I love is the fact that you keep on coming back to the subject of respecting the source material, and you don't just talk about it, you show it in how each and every video you've made is stylized.
You're doing some fucking amazing work on this channel. Keep it up. The style and quality of your videos are astounding.
I'm still trying to comprehend how anybody could have disliked such an artfully edited and beautifully presented video. You sir, have mastered the art of the motion graphic.
I love this channel so much. The amount of subs after just a handful of videos is mental and a real testament to how great they all are. True quality right from the start.
Every video you produce is amazing.
These are high production value, well written essays. I love long-form essays of this type, but honestly seeing your videos has given me an appreciation for short, to the point, in-depth essay like the ones you create.
I look forward to enjoying your future work.
Batman TAS is probably my strongest reference whenever I think of Batman, it truly did so much for the character.
I've got to say, I'm becoming a huge fan of these film studies type channels popping up in the last few years. The quality of the editing and the narration is fantastic. Keep it up!
yet another stellar video
Kaptain's collection of stellar videos is endless. Before I produce any of my videos, I take a look at Kaptain's videos to get some intense inspiration. I just released a Batman video, but it's not even half as good as Kaptain's!
I'm glad people like you exist because of your love of film and television.
I Love Your Videos, Amazing Wording And Editing. It's Perfect.
I always feel like people forget that why batmans fighting crime. I mean you said it perfectly, he's trying to save these people who are victims of mental illness and obsession not trying to beat them to a pulp
Love your videos!! And I'm so grateful that Batman: The Animated Series ever came to TV. It's influenced so much and it still one of my go-to series to recomend to someone when they want to know what animated series can be.
Every time you make a video I instantly have a desire to immerse myself in whatever it is you are talking about
Grew up watching these, brings back a lot of memories. Thanks!
You are easily my favorite recently-added channel on RUclips. These videos are fantastic. Well-edited, well-researched, articulate, smart, apolitical, delivered without excessive distraction, devoid of pandering, etc. These videos are almost what I'd use as examples to illustrate to other content creators HOW to make RUclips videos that are well-made and impressive. Please continue with this excellent series. I know I'm going to recommend it to all of my friends.
This dude can't make bad videos. Ever.
welp he's 7/7 now. ur videos r just...artful
I was waiting for this video to be made. Thank you!
Keep it up. I look forward to these videos every two weeks and have enjoyed every single one of them so far. Awesome work dude!
For a while now I've been watching basically every youtube video that interests me at either 1.25x, 1.5x or even 2x speed as to not waste all the time people spend between thoughts or transitions or whatever. It's basically become my default to speed up videos so it saves me a couple secs/minutes, but with your videos... everything just seems perfect. The timing, your pace, your editing, the audio. Weird compliment, I know, but your videos are some of the only that I watch at normal speed and enjoy every single second of. Keep it up, Kristian. Love your work.
I can relate to this comment, and it says a lot about the content. It's all real material, no filler and no internet jokes. High quality with substance.
You know, as much as I love and have fond memories of Tim Burton's 1989 film (not to mention Michael Keaton's iconic portrayal), I may actually agreed that The Animated Series is the definitive version of Batman. It really does balance various elements and qualities that have defined the character over the decades brilliantly.
Your video essays are really well presented. I appreciate that you don't rush into uploading videos and Keep up the good work.
as long as you keep posting these videos I'm definitely going to keep coming back. love the videos man keep up the work!!
I'm not sure who you are or where you came from but your videos are incredibly insightful and well put together!
Keep up the good work, man!
Loved the video but the Batman: TAS team comprised more than just Dini and Timm. I wish you would expounded upon the creative team a little more. Did anyone know that Darywn Cooke was responsible for many of the title cards? Again good video as usual.
Thank you for that info, the title cards were some of my greatest influences as an artist!
Actually Darwyn worked on New Adventures, not Animated Series. The title cards were painted by background artist and producer Eric Radomski. He did them in his spare time because he wanted too.
Another incredible video! Seriously, I love your work. Truly happy to view these when they come out. Never stop creating!
Dude just found your channel and watched all your videos. This kind of insight into things that I love are unfortunately so very rare, thank you so much for doing this and making it entertaining!
You're videos are too good. Keep up the good work, you will blow up for sure.
Every video is better than the last. Thank you for the quality and consistency of your craft and keep up the stellar work. They never cease to enthrall me.
I really appreciate the level of care that goes into the editing and presentation of these pieces. Awesome job.
Yet another amazing video, keep up the great work I love when these pop up in my subscriptions
I'm already looking forward to your next video
Lovely tribute. This take on Mister Freeze is always my favourite along with the similar Arkhamverse version with the excellent Maurice Lamarche, and easily one of the things I hated most about the New 52 was the radical change to his origin with Nora no longer his wife.
love the channel keep it up love how you find the raw source material and dig up the roots.
This is by far one of the best channels I've seen on RUclips. I can't get enough of these videos. Keep up the good work.
this channel is top notch quality
Someone link Doug Walker to this. He'd surely bust a nut. xD
Anyway, Kristian, great moves. Keep it up. Proud of you.
Didn't he just do a video that praises Batman: Mask of the Phantasm? I wonder if that inspired Kristian to do this.
+Dash he did pretty much quote him when he said that B: TAS was a mix of everything Batman.
Dude.. This made me so nostalgic. I almost teared up.
love the videos man keep it up. you do amazing work
I always feel a mix of nostalgia and sadness at the end of your videos. I almost want to cry because of the great memories I've had with all the content you have been posting. Thank you, so much. Thank you.
You should make one of these kinds of videos about Spider-Man!
I did
ruclips.net/video/6fO1sY_Dg-M/видео.html
kaptainkristian oh cool thank you!
Was the Calvin and Hobbies vid removed for copyright problems?
Kaptain's video on Spider-man in collaboration with IGN was one of the most solid videos on RUclips out there. My current video on the Batman didn't do as well as I had hoped, but I'll be tackling Spider-man soon and I hope to achieve half of the success that Kaptain achieved with his Spider-man video!
Fuck superman
Do you work in animation? I'm curious since pretty much all of your videos focus on the medium. The content you provide is so awesome and unique, and being an animation buff myself, it's nice to learn more than I previously did through your videos. This is easily my favorite channel on RUclips.
I can't stop watching your videos, they're amazing. Yours words and visuals combine perfectly to create a fully immersive experience. Every elements is so perfectly crafted it must take you forever to create these stories, it really shows. Keep up the awesome work, I can't wait for more to come!
your amazing with these vids, you make me wanna watch them more than once!
I love batman beyond also, old and new together... really nice
Kevin Conroy was still Bruce in that series too, which is amazing.
the editing and recap makes this video worth itt, but as an enthusiast to a lot of your subjects in the last few weeks I'm not getting any new takes on these subjects. I sort of hope you go more niche and weird occasionally as you get more popular.
I don't think that's where he would want to go with the channel. It dives just deep enough into each subject to make it interesting, thought provoking and understandable for the casual person. A very specific and unique subject would not provide entertainment to a large portion of people. However, that's just my thought, who knows where he will take this.
I feel like these arent opinion peices or how these subjects affected him solely. there more like a way to summarize the essence of the subject, why they work so well and the best representations of them.
I actually kind of like that he reviews things that are already considered amazing and goes into why they got so good.
Pacing is superb as always! Subject choice fantastic as well. Thanks for yet another great video!
I just found your channel and love everything I’ve seen so far.
You’re doing great work!
The Superfriends were created by the Hanna Barbara not Filmation.
That slip-up is going to bother a lot of nitpickers and 20th-century animation enthusiasts. For some, mixing up H-B with Filmation borders on sacrilege.
Best channel and best videos on youtube
Im pretty new to this channel, but it has become one of my favorites. I love how well articulated and thought out all the narrative is, its something that makes this channel stand out with smart points and a vast vocabulary. keep doind what your doing.
And again you somehow knocked it out of the park with another amazing video.keep up the amazing work ,your are brilliant at what you do !!!
Can you bring to light Beast Wars? It's is such an underrated but amazing show with genuinely good sci-fi action adventure, the best in the transformers series IMO
I'm curious to why you didn't touch on the Art Deco style, having prominently featured it in the video itself. It's one of the aspects I like most about Batman
Another great video. Informative and thoughtful, and with a style that really sets it apart from other channels.
These video essays are amazing. Such a unique and thrilling concept, and you present them expertly. Keep it up.
All I can hear is passion, and joy when you describe these things. I learn about things I've heard about vaguely and see them in a whole new light, and learn so much.
I can see your passion and uniqueness, you don't try to appeal to the masses, and thus your work is amazing.
Anyone know where the Kevin Conroy interview was from ?
Well done with this! I just found you, but now im going to go binge watch everything. Well done sir!
Your videos are amazing! Keep it up! Can't wait for the next one!
hated those redesigns when they went to WB at 5:58...
I think you may be one of the most gifted creators on this platform
Every single one of your videos are amazing. You deserve the best, keep up the good work.
this has quickly become my favorite channel, you and RetroAhoy make content with a quality that is just unheard of and i am so glad that i clicked on one of your videos. please don't stop what you're doing, it's just too damn good.
Who runs this channel? Why is this channel so good? How does he do it?????
Genuinly, I am a huge huge huge Star Wars fan. It is more important to me that the Joker be voiced by Mark Hamill than that he play Luke Skywalker. I'm hoping Disney kills him off in the next Star Wars movie so he can secure his roll as the Joker again.
Each time it's been anyone else, it's felt wrong. When people ask me "Who's your favorite Joker?" they always mean actor in a live action film, and I always say "Mark Hamill" because really, Mark Hamill just kinda plays Luke Skywalker. He put so much effort into the Joker, driving around practicing the different laughs. You can see his enthusiasm for the character in interviews. His eyes don't light up the same way for Luke Skywalker. He doesn't just "play" the Joker. He becomes the Joker.
seriously these videos are really outstanding. I look forward to more of your written word and great editing.
you just made a life long subscriber because of this video. the animated adventures of batman was my childhood favorites and to this day still is
You're like the nostalgia critic, except you don't bitch and complain about tiny things and your videos actually give everyone nostalgia. Love ur vids
now that you have done superman and batman, please do wonder woman.
I've been hoping for this one! Fantastic work as always.
Love every second of it.Your videos are pure gold !
I was fuckin Batman when I watched BTAS when I was a kid in the early nineties!
What? You were fucking Batman?
+ThePlainGamer you know what I mean troll!!
GameBoy Punk No, I don't. Did you mean you felt like you were Batman when you watched the show or did you leave out some words that would have made the sentence read better?
Didn't Burton's Batman influence the beginnings of the cartoon though? (A bit by forceful executive meddling, a bit by choice)
My friend just share this channel with me. Just finished all your videos. These are amazing, can't want to see what you release next. The video quality is beyond any video essays out there and I love all your content. Keep it up
I think you have the best channel on RUclips right now. i look forward to anything you do.
I usually take too much high praise with a grain of salt but the animated Batman series needs no salt.
Under a hundred club! Hi Kristian!
Me too
how ugly...
+that me the video
this is quality work right here man. thanks for putting in the time. first youtuber i leave praise for!
yes, I always love seeing your videos in my subscription feed!
