Thank you so much. I'm planting my first bulbs the first month of July this year. I have been perpetually awful at keeping my plants and flowers alive (i live in a hot and arid climate with too much direct sunlight). I have a lot of succulents and I've only been able to succesfully grow sunflowers, amaranth, and this year I finally got tomatoes right... and i know tomatoes are easy for most. I think my issue is over or under watering or over and under fertilizing :(. I've learned to watch my plants and let them tell me what they need more of, but a natural I am not. No green thumb for me... only the desire to keep trying.
I mix in a little vermiculite with my soil, and the wormies love it so it stays fertile. I've learned the hard way that gladiolus WILL have root rot of the soil isn't loamy, and if they don't get at least 4 hrs of very direct, blazing hot sun every day. Staking them and having to re-stake as they grow is such a bitch, but when I'm outside and people driving by stop to tell me how beautiful they are, that kinda makes it worth it.
Had a few gladiola bulbs planted last year in a windy area, second year in spring took away lots of bulbs from the area planting other flowers that I grew from seed. Few weeks, months later to my surprise noticed them grow back again many more than I planted the first year. I’m truly happy for them coming back cause they’re so beautiful and they really stand out.
THANK YOU! Your video definitely educated me. I've always rcvd roses and have six tree roses, my specialty. Grandkids and I will try bulbs this fall. Gladiolus and bearded Iris.
I just created a facebook group for our Flower Tribe ! Please join us and post pictures of the flowers you have grown ! Please include where you are from in the facebook posts . So exciting to see where everyone is from ➡️ facebook.com/groups/173080477731043
Thanks for these great tips! You mentioned at the beginning that you'd share some tips to help them come back the following year but I didn't catch what I was listening for. I've been struggling to get my glads to survive over winter. I know it can be done, I knew a lady when I was a kid who had an entire field of glads. So why do mine keep dying? I live in the Inland Northwest/Eastern Washington, we get cold winters for 3-4 months of the year. The first year that I tried glads I left them in the ground. None came back. I researched them and found that they need to be dug up like dahlias, so I did that the next year. I kept them in a cool closet in my basement and replanted this spring. I got tiny leaves, presumably from all the new little bulblets, but not a single flower. What am I missing?
YES KELLY IT'S ME--WE HAVE ALREADY CUT OUR GLADS DOWN AND DUG THEM OUT--WE HAVE THEM STORED DOWN IN THE BASEMENT IN A BAG--NOW WE ORDERED ANOTHER BUNCH OF GLADS TO PLANT THIS FALL--IWANTED TO LEAVE BULBS IN GROUND BUT THE MISSES WANTED TO DIG THEM OUT--SO NOW I HAVE TO CLEAR OUT ANOUTHER PLACE FOR ALL THE NEW GLADS THAT SHE HAS ORDERED-OH BOY!!! JUST HOPE WE GET NEW GLADS WHEN WE PLANT THESE--OUR'S WERE BEAUTIFUL BEFORE WE DUG THEM OUT AFTER THEY DIED. SORRY SO LONG-JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT OTHER BULBS IN GROUND--CRAZY I KNOW--TTYL--GARRY.
Lucy is beautiful! Were there flowers in this video? All I saw was a beautiful dog! (Seriously- Thank you for the information.) I just planted a couple hundred gladiolus in my garden.

Hello Kelly! Very nice video, very nice flowers and usefull florist advices. I love Gladiolos too! But here un Spain (Europe), now, Gladiolos are not very fashionable, because are so classic! Anyway many people/florists love Gladiolos as myself do. I'd like to learn about US gardens, and even more about the original US flowers. I'm following you! Regards from Spain -Europe- Thk y so much!
Hi there, thank you for this awesome video. This is my first time with gladiolus. I saw that they grew tall healthy green stalks and the fell over and a couple red flowers burst out in a big pot on my balcony. Poor thing I live in the desert. The stalks got sun burnt 🥵 Oh my goodness so now I don’t know what to do. Leave them alone or cut burnt stalks off and wait for next year❓
Good morning from England. Very good your video. Congratulations. I have gladiolus plants and they are infected with thrips. The leaves are dried and white-yellow. What can i use at home to save them?. Thank you very much.
I just got a bunch of beautiful gladiolus…how do I trim them to put in vase…I had a bunch put them in vase didn’t last long..I didn’t know where to trim them before I put in vase?
i got a bouquet of gladiolus the other day. I want to grow them from there. what should I do? so far i have kept them in a vase ful of water. any ideas?
My gladys have already started to come up but they are turning yellow. We had a heavy rain and I'm not sure if that's the problem.. please help.. any tips..
i just planted a bunch yesterday here in NJ . It is pretty late in the season to plant them but i find they have a better chance of coming back if i plant them late instead of storing them . i would give it a try and pop em in the ground . Make sure you water them in . Good luck ! 🌸🌸
Hi John , when I order them I look for the sizes each bulb seller grows . Then I choose the showiest tallest varieties . I’m not sure of the exact varieties I have in the field . 🌸🌸
They look like the florist veriety... my father had a floral shop for the first 18 years of my life so I’m sure he can give me a heads up or flowers market can steer me on the proper path... thanks love

Hi😊 I’m in Union! Can you tell me if it’s too early to plant my gladiolus bulbs. For the season? Thank you so much, very informative!
Does the sugar and vodka work on peonies or other cut flowers? Great tips and video!
Yes , it does . Thank you for the great question 🌸👏
My gladiolus is done Bloom one time this year, is it possible that will bloom again? The old blooms, old birds seem to be filling out again? Thank you
Good morning from England. Very good your video. Congratulations. I have gladiolus plants and they are infected with thrips. The leaves are dried and white-yellow. What can i use at home to save them?. Thank you very much.
Neem oil
Can you grow gladiolus from cuttings ?
I just got a bunch of beautiful gladiolus…how do I trim them to put in vase…I had a bunch put them in vase didn’t last long..I didn’t know where to trim them before I put in vase?
Clip of the top of the plant , last close bud if it doesn’t have an open flower.
how can you keep already cut gladiolus fresh? Or even preserve them?
i got a bouquet of gladiolus the other day. I want to grow them from there. what should I do? so far i have kept them in a vase ful of water. any ideas?
Gladiolus are usually planted in the bulb form. I’m not sure how to grow them from a cut flower form . Not sure if this can be done .
Is that a Mt Bernese? She is gorgeous!
Yep, Lucy is a Bernese Mountain Dog all right 🤗😊Thank you🌸
My gladys have already started to come up but they are turning yellow. We had a heavy rain and I'm not sure if that's the problem.. please help.. any tips..
If you harden them off slightly the top will bloom and not wilt over. I can’t clip off flowers, seems a waste. I understand why people do it tho.
I'm the same way about cutting flowers off! I love to enjoy them on their stem IN the garden. :).
I just found a package of corms I neglected to plant earlier. Is it too late now for Connecticut?
i just planted a bunch yesterday here in NJ . It is pretty late in the season to plant them but i find they have a better chance of coming back if i plant them late instead of storing them . i would give it a try and pop em in the ground . Make sure you water them in . Good luck ! 🌸🌸
hi kelly did you grow up in laurence harbor?
