If these are going to do a non DIY offering the best thing would be to get other reviewers take on them, not much gr-research stuff as gone to youtube reviewers but with a commercial offering it would make sense.
I made it to the end and wish it was more technical. Some of us have been using small wideband drivers in car audio competition for years now………. Theirs trade offs when you don’t use a tweeter. Time alignment and phase are the biggest pros. With digital signal processing, we can bump the eq up when the upper octaves start to drop off. Even with a mid level processor they’ll go + or- 10 DB on a 31 band EQ. I would Probably cross that driver at 140hz @ 24DB per octave LR/R x-over point. Based on your explanation or the driver.
I like the idea of it I have been thinking about doing the same thing. The thing is I want a Bully or a Brute with this design. It has to have great hollographic sound and be able to hit hard not one or the other but both. I am really tired of having to have one set of speakers to do job (A) and another set to do job (B)! I am fine with having to add dedicated subwoofers for everythng 100hz and lower! I am tired of all of the speakers with 6.5" speakers and smaller that can not handle any power and are as effecient as a Dodge Viper V10. Danny's argument is always "Power is cheap and available so effeciency does not matter just put more power to them." You can not do that though if the speaker can not handle the power. So now you have low effeciency speaker that can not handle even modest amounts of power! I love real wood hard woods can be very beautiful. I am not an Architect though so instead of the pretty wood on the sides of the speaker where I will never see it and niether will my guests when listening how about we have the pretty wood on the front as well. I understand you want these in the room not a corner but still let's see the wood while listening! There is a reason we build cabinets with the cheap stuff and face them with the good stuff not the other way around we do not build them from hard woods and face them with MDF! I love your channel I watch every video and have been watching the older stuff as well! Thanks for the channel!
Actually no big power amps are needed. These have been paired really well with the Miller Audio tube amps that are only 35 watts of power. With that they fill a big room really well. Also, these are just prototypes. The production models are gorgeous.
Can I ask why the midwoofer is not flush mounted? Other options for the woodwork possible? This is little intense pattern for me 😅 (some natural oak maybe)
That woofer has a non-resonant polymer frame and is designed to be surface mounting. Colors are white with Maple sides, black with Walnut sides, and a dark grey with red walnut sides.
3:01 - "look there is not a singe dollar bill given. so no financial interest right there" - an excuse for 5 year olds. he clearly gets a lot of profit from this collab as a youtuber and it brings him a decent amount of money, viewers, and social weight. even mentioning someone's name gives clear profit to that person. that's how social media works.
I actually think it’s fair to say that I’ll get some kind of bump in views or attention (as will Danny) so there is no reason to argue that point. With that being said, I am not making any money from the speakers profit. Danny is in charge of all that and I’m totally fine with that. I just want people to experience these and it’s my privilege to have my brand attached to them. Thanks for the comment.
He has participated in ever aspect of this project. He deserves any accolades or acknowledgements that he receives, but has has no vested interest, profits or kickbacks on any sales.
FWIW I have zero problems with motivations, monetary or otherwise. We've all got bills to pay. Waiting for the release of the rest of the model line and third party reviews. I'm not in the market but love to see grass roots independent projects like this. Especially with no BS kickstarter risk. Keep up the fantastic work NRD & GR Research!
You can't buy a speaker and know it will sound good. There are many variables to consider. I would have to listen to it in my home with my gear. 30 day money back only.
Would be nice to see /hear a version designed for near wall use - front ported or sealed, crossover setting like Epos Es7n. Many listeners have room limitations that preclude 3 feet into room positioning...
My opinion is still and for more than 45 years, a 3 way system with the right filters and a good cabinet, @ 8 Ohm and 20 to 22 Khz and below 20 Hz a bass cabinet must be added, and here it comes 4 Ohm is good for your car, and not for home, this rule came into the 90s being to make everything cheaper in the 90s, you know all about my opinion and experience with listening to music
Ron has one of the best sounding listening rooms and listening systems in the country. He has a well trained ear and knows how to listen and can easily quantify quality. His vision is a high target to shoot for and a challenge I was on board with.
Danny, is it possible to get a pair to Erin for a second set of measurements? I respect that you have your own measurement regimen - Erin's numbers would simply be the icing on the cake. ruclips.net/video/D6hfVbkBW-k/видео.html
Why are you putting the high and low frequency drivers so far apart? You often say that they ought to be closer together for a more seamless off-axis frequency response.
Honestly, they won't do what the NX Series models can do. The NX Series models have greater dynamics, higher detail and resolution level up top. They handle a lot more power, and they will play louder. However, I really enjoy listening to these more. The imaging and vocal region just draw me in and I love them.
Wilsons sound boomy in the bass and beamy/forward in the upper midrange. I wouldn’t keep a pair if they were given to me for free, unless I had no other pair of speakers. 😂 Having said that, I heard these new speakers in Ron’s listening room and they are amazing. RUclips videos can’t even begin to explain how great they are, especially when in a well treated room like Ron’s listening room, and when paired with the GR-Research open baffle servo sub woofers. You should consider the subs for these to have full range.
Sensitivity is 85.5db and they are an nominal 8 ohm load. We just played these last week with out 300B amp (9 watts). It sounded beautiful, but is only enough power if used in a small to medium sized room where loud volumes are not needed.
@@dannyrichie9743 I can believe it and it's what you had said that about the Super Mini's at the time and it's true. I am wondering about using the drivers as rears in my jeep wrangler sound bar. If relived of the bass below 80 hz, do you think that work well. I do listen loud, but they would play lower in volume than the mains, Golden Ear Sat 3s. My other concern is performance in sub zero temperatures. I have had some Scanspeak Revelators that would mess up, probably due to coil gap I am thinking. Thanks
What, my Be-718 (Danny's Edition) is arriving by UPS today, and there is something better coming? My wife is already not happy with the arrival of the Be-718, she will probably cut up my credit card when I order these when it comes out. The only question is, which model should I get? Will wait and find out... PS How to improve the aesthetics of these 'super-speakers'? A $million sounding speaker should also look like a $million.
Ron here. 3 feet is bare minimum. I really want people to experience the full potential of this design so I’d really hope folks can get them deeper than that in the room. Mine are 9 feet into the room.
@Newrecordday2013 I couldn't do that in my living room, it's about 12 feet front to back. Perhaps I could get them in my garage gym which is 8m x 2.5m but they would be sitting on wall brackets pointing longways 2.5m apart. Would that work?
You really need a medium to large listening room that is well treated for these to perform at their best and do their imaging magic. Ron’s room is 50% of the sound of these speakers. Speaker placement is only part of the requirement as proper room treatment is really the thing that knocks it over the top. The listening room is king. And that was one of my key takeaways from hearing these speakers in Ron’s room, and inspired me to try to figure out a way to better treat my listening room.
@ hopefully there’s no internal wire that’s pvc coated as my wife can hear that from the next room . I think you are probably genuinely talented and I’ve been interested in some of your designs but some of the things you spout are really off putting for people who are experienced in audio. It devalues your brand in my opinion

I agree completely. I have already expressed my desire to Danny to get these in the hands of other reviewers and see what they think.
Price of pair !
The Burnett
Will you make a floor stander?
Yes we are. It is next.
So these are the LGK Encores? So the only thing missing now LGK Bravo Brute? :)
The measurements are outstanding. All will be posted....
Looking forward to it. What's the cost of entry? And, when will they be available?
Two to three months form now. This first model will be in the $3,400 to $3,500 range.
@@dannyrichie9743 good to know, thank you sir.
Option for regular binding posts in the back instead of the tubers?
Nope, no backwards steps for this one.
See the standard LGK 2.1, and 2.2 models.
How about a naming competition?? - Or is it going to be the NRD series? A 'proper' name might be a good differentiation from the kits?
NRD Series. Names are fixed nd you will hear them in the next video.
Okay, I hate that I'm being the grammar nazi, but I'm leaning in..... hyperbole=hi-per-bol-lee
Yeah, you'd think that, until you hear them. See the posted response at the top from a guy that heard them a few weeks ago.
I thought the LGK 3" was for near field listening? Seems odd to use it in a large speaker made for a big room.
What are Ron's credentials other than a reviewer? Is his input really a selling point?
I smoke up a mean brisket.
Ron has one of the best sounding listening rooms and listening systems in the country. He has a well trained ear and knows how to listen and can easily quantify quality. His vision is a high target to shoot for and a challenge I was on board with.
Funny😊@@Newrecordday2013
I have a question. for a very small untreated room should I get LGK 2.1 plus servo sub or NX-Bravo
LGK 2.1's are the most forgiving.
Exciting!
How far away from the wall do the first in this new series need to be?
he said at least 3 ft
@estebanleacho9315 I heard that when he was talking about the third in the series, but didn't want to assume about the smallest stand mount speakers.
Can you clarify if you mean these will be out first quarter 2025 or 2026?
Sorry, I shot this video over the Christmas holiday. So this year (2025).
Danny, is it possible to get a pair to Erin for a second set of measurements? I respect that you have your own measurement regimen - Erin's numbers would simply be the icing on the cake.
ruclips.net/video/D6hfVbkBW-k/видео.html
We are working on having Erin come over some time this year.
@dannyrichie9743 awesome - rks.
Only available fully assembled?🙁
Why are you putting the high and low frequency drivers so far apart? You often say that they ought to be closer together for a more seamless off-axis frequency response.
They cross at 250Hz. The wavelength at the frequency is about four and a half feet long. So the spacing is not an issue.
Danny, are you saying these are better than your NX- Otica or even NX-Tremes?
Honestly, they won't do what the NX Series models can do. The NX Series models have greater dynamics, higher detail and resolution level up top. They handle a lot more power, and they will play louder. However, I really enjoy listening to these more. The imaging and vocal region just draw me in and I love them.
But do they sound better than the Wilsons? 😅
Probably. Did you see the recent Wilson videos?
@@stephenyoud6125 I sure did. I also saw some other videos reacting to it.
That’s a really low bar.
@stephenyoud6125 You're seeing a whole team of psychiatrists aren't you?
Did you do something really cold as secret technology?
Just something very new.
Watched the whole thing as usual. 😂
Wondering about efficiency and input impedance … Will my little, beloved 300B amp work with these at all?
Sensitivity is 85.5db and they are an nominal 8 ohm load. We just played these last week with out 300B amp (9 watts). It sounded beautiful, but is only enough power if used in a small to medium sized room where loud volumes are not needed.
@ Sounds perfect for our living room system. Thanks 👍
Well, these better be the bomb!
They are the best stand mount speaker that I have spent time with - by a wide margin.
@@Newrecordday2013I believe that, since I have faith in you being an honest person. When are you going to take them through the wringer?
Still another year to wait?! Stop teasing us Danny!
He recorded this in December. These will be out in a few months.
I love your videos but man, I long for something beyond the 2x playback speed.
LOVE your videos, but can you bump up your black level just a scoshe? It’s so dark. And I’m watching on a big new iPad Pro, retina blah blah…..
He’s working on a new studio and I’ll be helping him get the lighting under control.
So who's Ron!???
Ron Brenay from New Record Day. Check out his videos.
Do these image better than the Super Mini's? That would be hard to believe, ha.
They image as well and better than anything I have ever heard.
Thanks
@@rvaillant They will not withstand the outside weather or humidity.
Reviewing and selling your own product 🤔
I don't review products.
How far out in the room have you designed them to be placed?
He said 3 feet
Ron here. 3 feet is bare minimum. I really want people to experience the full potential of this design so I’d really hope folks can get them deeper than that in the room.
Mine are 9 feet into the room.
You got to get , far out MAN😂 , had to say it , just got done watching Cheech and Chongs up in smoke 😂 and I'm high
Not until next year? :/
I recorded this in Late Dec. These are only two to three months out.
@dannyrichie9743 awesome!
Come on Danny, tell us the woo woo tech you've employed to take this to the next level....
Wait until you see the next video.
Danny Greta Project , what is the color that you end up single on the NX- Studios behind you
Oh, that is just a sprayed Copper color over Duratex.
Did you try to match the cone
@@alfaroinc1 A little.
Exciting stuff.
Are these speakers bipolar or dipolar on top?
Sort of. The rear driver has a limited range.
What material are the terminals on that driver, pure silver made by the gods?
Or did you bless them with your unmeasurable anti smearing mumbo jumbo 😂
Pure Copper, and if you want, I can sprinkle on a little magic pixie dust.
@ hopefully there’s no internal wire that’s pvc coated as my wife can hear that from the next room .
I think you are probably genuinely talented and I’ve been interested in some of your designs but some of the things you spout are really off putting for people who are experienced in audio.
It devalues your brand in my opinion
Great video! Ball park "reasonably priced" on the bookshelf speakers pair?? Thanks!
It is looking like $3,400 to $3,500 a pair.
Thank God. An off set tweeter!!! Such a simple thing, but important 😊
Why? Please explain.
Why is that important?
This has been explained in other GR-Research videos.
I'd like the same effort into a small W8x H12 x D10 or so in a folded horn for full range 4" speakers.
This configuration is better.
Those lgks might work well in pods in my car.
You'd need quite a few because we all know you'd pound on them.
