I do get obsessed with specifically your version of this song every couple of years. So I come back to stretch out and lie down in these harmonies, thinking of cloud-foam, the smell of citrus and the stillness underground.
I sang this senior year of high school for state choir. At this point in my life i have never felt so at one with a group of people, or a piece of music. 7years later i long for this again.
The amazing musicality and textural delicacy of the dissonance that Whitacre chooses to use in his music is brought to amazing clarity when it's just two people singing. It's like glass fibers. This whole thing is just mind blowing. I would give anything to hear you two do more of his stuff.
Peter, I love this version. Your and Evynne's harmonies are crisp and right on target. Very well done, indeed. As I was listening to this, I thought a perfect song for both of you to do in the future would be the SATB version of the Billy Joel classic, "And So It Goes." Thanks again for the wonderful sounds.
Eric whitacre is hands down my favorite composer and wow y'all did an amazing job bringing his work to life! What a gift the Lord has given you! I love you guys!!
I'm pretty sure I was subscribed to you when you posted this but I don't remember ever listening to it. I'm not sure why but I missed this. That's unbelievable considering Eric Whitacre is my favorite composer and you're one of very few RUclips arts who could pull off his work! This cover of "A Boy and a Girl" melted my heart! Fantastic! I'm so glad my eyes caught this in the suggested videos! :D Please forgive me for praising and then requesting, but do you have any plans to do "October" (Alleluia) by Eric Whitacre? It is my favorite song if ever I was to choose one.
Okay, I know this is late in retrospect to the video being up so long, still, I think you guys should do "sleep" by Eric Whitacre! Also, The Seal lullaby also by Eric Whitacre. I love your harmonies and I have to thank both of you for your music, I have been following you and your wife for a very long time now, You guys are amazing musicians :)
Nicely done! Great range! Kudos to both of you on this one! I see you take requests: Same composer - Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine. I think you would kill it!!!
I absolutely love what you did with this Whitacre piece. This brings me back to the days of high school choir. The dissonance that you and Evynne created while keeping good tone was amazing and you also did a great job of keeping the meaning of the song in tact. Job well done Peter!!!
I'm a big fan of choral music, and of Eric Whitacre's work. This is one of my favorite Whitacre compositions. Peter & Evynne -- you completely did it justice. I like this recording better than any other that I've heard of this piece, and it's one of my absolute favorites that the Hollens family has ever done. So expressive! Your voices, dynamics and flowing movement are so well matched to Whitacre's hauntingly beautiful harmonies and the humour & poignancy of the text. I can't stop listening to it over & over. :) I'm down with anything you want to tackle from the classical or contemporary choral repertoire. I'm also glad you make your tracks available on Loudr since I don't buy from iTunes, ever.
This performance captures the wonderful fullness of a complete life, as it was written in the piece. Every chord is profound. The dynamics are subtle and meaningful. Simply: bravo.
Peter, I am a 60 year old who just loves your voice because I can hear and understand all the words that you sing even my 80 year old mother love your singing because she can understand every word even on your more rocking numbers. I wouls love to hear Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden, and another on a little diffrent than I've herd you do At Last , Etta James love it when it song by a male singer. Thank-You for your beautiful voice. Don
Knowing the title of this song,I just happened to click to hear you both sing for the first time.Wow. I have told people about my new discovery of two world class singers, who really enjoy themselves singing. Thank you so much. Pete from England.
I just realized that, now matter how beautiful the song is, I get more enjoyment out of watching the video than I do just listening to it. The visual emotion that show on Peter and Enynne's faces make the song that much more lovely. It doesn't hurt that they're both very pleasant on the eye. ;-)
The style of singing in this video is a little too "jazzy," I think, for the message that's in this music. This is a song about death and transcendence of love even through death. It should be less "pop-y" and breathy. This demands a clear, dark, rich sound. I think it's unfortunate that people don't take the time to really understand the music (or maybe rather, learn how to convey the proper timbre instead of having a set "singing style" for everything). However, I do love this song and appreciate that they took the time to edit this together.
Oh my god. I have goosebumps over my entire body and face. Eric Whitacre is possibly the best modern composer out there, and I love this song! I have never heard it before, and this is now my new favorite Whitacre! You guys should try more choral pieces, because this is jaw-dropping, I can't even with how beautiful your voices are
I only wish you didn't treat this like a theatrical or modeling performance. It would've made you sound better if you didn't focus so much on making yourselves look pretty at every angle.
I feel that they could've made it sound significantly better had they focused on singing rather than posing. If you don't, that's fine, but I've heard this song be sung live over a hundred times and there's something to be improved here.
Devin Shazare That's true. It's pretty outside his normal style, and it's obviously not a live choral rendition of Whitacre, so I think that there's definitely something lost there in terms of the feeling and interpretation. Still, I think that since this is what most of his channel is like, it makes sense for the video to be approached this way.
Now this feels so bad. Some choral pieces simply can't be done by two people only. I mean, their voices are great, they're clear and everything, but I miss every single piece of emotion there. The dynamics is not sufficient, but it can't be done unless there's at least 40 of them, sorry. And their facial expressions are very uncomfortable and weird to look at. This is not a pop song. I don't want to see their throats. For god's sake, the boy and the girl died, why do they look so happy about it?
I totally and completely disagree with you. They actually managed, in my opinion to do this better than whitacres whole ensemble. I could feel every piece of emotion the song conveyed. Their expressions were a bit much at times yes but that’s so small compared to all the good things going on here, and their dynamics were absolutely amazing. That’s just my 2 cents.
Beautiful voices in general, but some of those vowels and hard "r" sounds made me cringe. It's not a pop song, sorry. I guess I prefer a full chorus to do this piece the justice it deserves.
Sent here by Eric's FB post. Peter, you have done a lovely job with the fragility and gentleness of this piece. Evynne voice and treatment of her parts are simply magical. Someone else said it, and I will chime in ... you sir ... could pull off When David Heard.
This is beautifully chilling! I'm one of the members of Eric Whitacre's new 'Bliss' virtual choir. I have a new found respect for choirs especially with what Eric has done and what you have created here. It truly is the coolest thing ever and touches one's soul - just beautiful. Seal Lullaby would be amazing as would some of his Hebrew pieces... something I would love to do one day is record in Hebrew. I look forward to listening to your other recordings. A fan :)
Peter and Evynne, both of you have amazing voices. I have seen your other collaborations on this channel. I know that together you make beautiful music together. I never heard of Eric Whitacre before this version, I thank you for tuning me into his work. I enjoy choral music, and I would love to hear a truly timeless piece done by both of you. Something older than a hundred years would be a good start.
Of all the songs you've posted so far, I think this one and Poor Wayfaring Stranger are my favorites. Thank you too you and your wife for sharing your talents.
I performed this song at nysssa almost 7 years ago. It was by far one of my favorite pieces. It's a difficult piece for a ful choir to sing, and you two did an amazing job! I loved every minute of this
honestly I've heard this song about 1,000 times and I keep coming to this video and I'm still amazed and the voice you two have its just amazing thank you for being so much of a role model you are my hero peter
+dylan stephenson This song took my vocal breath away when My high school chamber choir sang this. The song's great and all, but it was a pain in the ass to sing because of my choir director.
My choir is singing this for adjudication in Williamsburg, VA this year. This is one of the only choir songs that I listen to outside of class that I enjoy.
Wow, we literally just got this song like two weeks ago for my school choir. We listened to the beginning in class, but I missed a couple days and really couldn't get a feel for where the song was going. Then this pops up in my sub box so I click it. You just blew me away! Great job, and thanks, you've helped me change my view about what we've been doing lately!! This really is amazing.
I absolutely loooove Eric Whitacre... he's brilliant. I was so excited when we got to perform one of his symphonic pieces in high school. I had no idea he did anything other than choral pieces!
After digging through several versions of this song, your and Evynne's version is still the best that I've found. =) Nothing else compares to the musical prowess and emotion that you two demonstrate in this song. It's amazing each time I hear it.
WOW. I haven't been able to find anything this good on youtube. I've been missing pieces like these since Highschool choir. LOVE Eric Whitacre and others like him. PLEASE do more!!!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this take of "A Boy and a Girl"!!! My high school choir did this piece and Eric actually came and directed it for us! It brings back such fond memories to me! God Bless! #etherealsounds
Thank you for being amazingly kind enough to share your beautiful talent with the world. Listening to you always brightens up my day. I would say the same to the young lady you performed with but I honestly have no idea how to directly message people on youtube. ALL THE LOVE!!
I sang this with my highschool choir...I am so proud that we pulled this off because eric whitacre's pieces have soooo much meaning....this piece not only brings tears to me but it also brings happiness because the dissents if i spelled that right is insane....by the way lets say i sang this in 2004.. dang im old...lol
Ah I just love this... I had a choir concert recently and the other choir from my school performed this. I was in love with this song... I saw your video and got so excited. Amazing job to both of you. Very beautiful. :)
I absolutely love this song and am so glad I came across your cover of it today! Made my day! Your voices are gorgeous and brought back a lot of memories from when I sang this song in high school at a choral competition! Much love -Caroline
I've heard this song many many times. I have never seen it performed by two people of course, and even more so. You are the lovers that this song is about. Truly powerful concept...
This is one of my favorite pieces. As a musician I look to amazing works of art like this for inspiration. Eric as a composer manages to capture such incredible meaning from the text and breathe life into the story. Wonderfully performed.
I very much enjoyed this piece. Eric Whitacre is a genus and you and Evynne are amazing talents. Thank you for bringing this piece and video to the world!
One of my favorite videos I've ever uploaded. So thankful I did this one back in the day.
I keep coming to this piece every now and then ever since you uploaded it more than 7 years ago. Even now, I still love the melody.
My daughter says the same!
Sierra N
I was a choir director, and I love that you had that experience.
( :
Blessings.
I sang this in chorus. Second soprano is no joke
Ma'Kayla Howard I FEEL THIS WAY TOO MUCH
Ma'Kayla Howard swear!!!!!
i realize I am kind of randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to watch newly released series online ?
The amazing musicality and textural delicacy of the dissonance that Whitacre chooses to use in his music is brought to amazing clarity when it's just two people singing. It's like glass fibers. This whole thing is just mind blowing. I would give anything to hear you two do more of his stuff.

Great idea!!!
I love the sound of Whitacre's pieces, and this performance did them justice. Superb. Absolutely amazing.
OMG DO MORE ERIC WHITACRE SONGS PLEEEEASE!?!? I'm particularily fond of Sleep and Water Night
And Cloudburst!
and Fly away!!!
What about When David Heard
I don't think I've ever heard a Whitacre song performed like this before - and I listen to a LOT of Eric Whitacre. Absolutely stunningly good.
Whitacre & Hollens -- about as amazing of a combination as coffee and chocolate. You should do Lux Arumque or the Seal Lullaby next!
Yess Lux Arumque is my favorite Eric Whitacre song!
Eric whitacre is hands down my favorite composer and wow y'all did an amazing job bringing his work to life! What a gift the Lord has given you! I love you guys!!
Sing more Whitacre PLEASE!! He is my idol!!!!
This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
I'm pretty sure I was subscribed to you when you posted this but I don't remember ever listening to it. I'm not sure why but I missed this. This has got to be one the most beautiful songs I have ever heard you two sing. *applauds*
If you did Water Night, I could finally die happy. You pull this off perfectly.
Whitacre's music always brings me to tears... so beautiful especially when done so
Okay, I know this is late in retrospect to the video being up so long, still, I think you guys should do "sleep" by Eric Whitacre! Also, The Seal lullaby also by Eric Whitacre. I love your harmonies and I have to thank both of you for your music, I have been following you and your wife for a very long time now, You guys are amazing musicians :)
WHOA - the two of you have amazing voices, your range, harmony and overall control over your voice is incredible. More duets please!!!
Eric Whitacre is amazing!!!! Could you do "Sleep" by him?
This is the most beautiful music I've heard in a long time. Seriously.
this is all kinds of beautiful
This was absolutely beautiful... I have sung this song in a choir before and this gave me the same feeling. Goose bumps.
Please do more Eric Whitacre! The Seal Lullaby is my favorite, but you could pull off any of his pieces!!
Seconding Seal Lullaby!
Absolutely stunning...I couldn't love this any more than I do! Peter and Evynne's version is life
Nicely done! Great range! Kudos to both of you on this one! I see you take requests: Same composer - Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine. I think you would kill it!!!
This song is so beautiful, I didn't knew it, it has so emotional charge behind it. Simply amazing.
As a lover of profound music I ask you two to please do Eric Whitacre's When David Heard. It would be beautiful. Like this comment if you agree.
+2dicone I LOVE THAT SONG
Exactly
I absolutely love what you did with this Whitacre piece. This brings me back to the days of high school choir. The dissonance that you and Evynne created while keeping good tone was amazing and you also did a great job of keeping the meaning of the song in tact. Job well done Peter!!!
Holy shit... this gave me chills. You are amazing O___o This is one of my favorite Eric Whitacre songs. #Subscribed
Please, make more songs like this. I'm always coming back to listen to this song. I love it so much.

This made me cry. The emotion of this really engulfed me, you two portrayed its meaning perfectly.

I did too. It was magnificent.
This song is so heart touching, full of meaning and beauty. Thank you for doing a choral song. I loved it and hope to see more.
I always forget to breathe during this song...

The harmonies are simply amazing, beautiful, magical and angelic.

Twilight Sparkle look up the Glee one

Do ANYTHING by Morten Lauridsen. Please.
I've always known Eric Whitacre's music to be beautifully composed and this only strengthens my conviction.
Do more Eric whitacre

I performed this in a small ensemble a few years ago and loved it then. Hearing this version, I remember why I loved it so much! Thank you!

Lord Asrend the video makes me cringe, can't remember the last time I watched it honestly lol I listen to it a shitload but I never WATCH the video
I love listened to this countless times now. Great great job. So pure.

Beautiful voices in general, but some of those vowels and hard "r" sounds made me cringe. It's not a pop song, sorry. I guess I prefer a full chorus to do this piece the justice it deserves.
I love Eric Whitacre so much. His songs are amazing! You guys nailed this!
Gross, their vowels are awful. They're using karaoke voice, and it's unsupported. Sounds like barbershop music.
I adore this song. Singing it is so moving, but it's even more moving to hear it performed well.
Kudos for picking an excellent piece to cover. Shame you killed it. Sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks on autotune.
Sent here by Eric's FB post.
Peter, you have done a lovely job with the fragility and gentleness of this piece.
Evynne voice and treatment of her parts are simply magical.

Did this with my Chamber choir... Ahhh so many great memories. It was a pleasure to meet you in person Peter.
+dylan stephenson This song took my vocal breath away when My high school chamber choir sang this. The song's great and all, but it was a pain in the ass to sing because of my choir director.
Thank you! Beautiful piece by Whitacre artfully sung. Sends chills down my spine.
This is absolutely beautiful. This is the only song that has given me successive chills over and over again.
My choir is singing this for adjudication in Williamsburg, VA this year. This is one of the only choir songs that I listen to outside of class that I enjoy.
My Choir did this in high school. I got chills from my own voice. Just cuz of this song
I remember doing this song in high school and I loved it! Thank you Peter and Evynne for doing this song. It brought back great memories! I love it!
The dynamics are sung very well. Very nice contrast! The whole thing is absolutely beautiful.
I sang this in high school, and again in college. Never been this good. THANK YOU!
Wow, we literally just got this song like two weeks ago for my school choir. We listened to the beginning in class, but I missed a couple days and really couldn't get a feel for where the song was going. Then this pops up in my sub box so I click it. You just blew me away! I love it SO much. Beautiful harmony and your voices go so well together.
Just beautiful, very moving and my favorite arrangement so far. You two are lovely together!
Thank you! A studio recording of this is awesome to hear more of the beautiful dissonant chords in a new way!
I love your commitment to classical music. I hope more people see the beauty of such a style of composition.
One of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard.

The most beautiful piece/peace I've heard in a while.

I liked this song and added it to my favorites, and then sat there, wondering how I could possibly express how much I truly love this.
Ah I just love this... I had a choir concert recently and the other choir from my school performed this. I was in love with this song... I saw your video and got so excited. Amazing job to both of you. Very beautiful. :)
Words cannot describe how much I love Eric Whitacre
Love you guys! So glad I get to be a part of some of the stuff Evynne's doing right now. Absolutely stunning, so glad Churchill is doing this.
I absolutely love this song and am so glad I came across your cover of it today! Made my day! Your voices are gorgeous and brought back a lot of memories from when I sang this song in high school at a choral competition!
Much love

I very much enjoyed this piece. Eric Whitacre is a genus and you and Evynne are amazing talents. Thank you for bringing this piece and video to the world!
