- For a long time we NEEDED printers…it was how work got done. Then we went digital and everyone moved to the cloud… But then lots of us moved to work from home and between that, shipping labels, airline boarding passes, scrapbooking, school projects.. well, we’re not done with printers just yet…
That’s why I’m testing printers for home use and today I’ve got the Epson ET2803 Ecotank ink tank printer for review. I’ll take a look at what it can do, the pros and cons and a coulple of flags for users. I’ll wrap things up by letting you know if it’s a good pick for you.

Let’s start by looking at the ink tank printer, and seeing why you might choose that over an ink jet…
Inkjets are one of the most popular home-use printers around. They're easy to use, can print in color, and are fairly cheap to buy.
But inkjet printers need expensive ink cartridges. And if you plan on printing colored photos in high-quality mode, you’re going to have to replace those cartridges more often. And some printer companies actually block you from using ink from other, cheaper suppliers.
Fortunately, ink tank technology has been developed to address this problem. Ink tank printers are inkjets that have a built-in tank of ink that can be refilled when it runs out. This means that you don't have to buy new cartridges every time you run out of ink - just refill the tank from a bottle of liquid ink.
The Epson ET2803 is an all-in-one ink tank printer that can print, scan and copy documents.
It’s a larger size printer and will take up a good amount of space on a desk, so if space is a concern, you might want to seek out something like a portable printer (like the HP Oiffice Jet 250 which I reviewed) or a compact option, like the HP DeskJet 3755 which I also got hands-on with.
Getting this printer set up was actually pretty easy. I have not reviewed many Epson products at all; perhaps one printer years and years ago, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. After plugging in the printer and following, the initiation steps on the screen. I was able to get it connected to my homes Wi-Fi network. From there I was able to, add it to my MacBook Pro’s list of printers and see it using my Apple iPhone.
The Wi-Fi connectivity means you can print from anywhere in your home using your smartphone or tablet. The ET2803 is compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux operating systems.
You can also use USB-A to connect your device directly to the printer. Наука
Just got one at Walmart for $199 12/16/23 Works great for 4 x 6 photos so far. Very easy to set up. NO MESS to fill with ink. Snap on bottle and it fills by itself.
On mac to scan go to system preferences, printers & Scanners, then select the Epson printer and on the next page there is "Print & Scan" options at the top, click on scan and you can then scan directly to your Mac.
My brother purchased the Epson et_2800 printer About a month ago and we love it, we have it installed on both of our windows 10 laptops 8:04
Just the fact that it doesn’t have any special chips or anything like that what HP does for their toners has me sold on this brand, I’m absolutely going to get a bigger printer model of course, because there’s no way I am not going to have a paper feeder for the scanner. Thank you for the review. Honestly, you saved me a lot of time and effort. Cheers 🍻
No problem! I'm glad this was helpful!
I will never buy HP products again, after a recent lockdown of my printer by HP, while a crucial document needed scanning.
Thanks for such a good and thorough review!
Hi Erin, thank you for another balanced pros/cons review.
Thank YOU!
great video informative and straight to the point
Thanks Erin.
Thanks for this review! Helped me take the plunge into the ink tank
Glad I could help!
GREAT REVIEW!!! Thanks for the info!!
Any time!
You can usually scan from the Printers & Scanners module in System Settings. You won't see it under Scanners since it's listed as a printer, but if you click on it a dialog box will open and you can select Open Scanner. I've had to do it this way for years on my now 18-year-old Brother laser. YMMV
Just bring up the print queue. Should be a scan icon!
Great video!
Thank you 🙏
I was never sure about this style of printer from Epson, but with the ink bottles being that cheap and being rated for that many pages, it's doing far better than my HP colour laser printer, even when using remanufactured toner cartridges. I will definitely be looking into this once our aging laser printer dies. I'm assuming the ink doesn't dry up if it's not used for a while?
You definitely want to use it at least once a month because it can cause issues if you don't with the print heads
Do you know if this will do borderless printing for 8.5x11?
Is this a good printer to print out 500 flyers?
epson does it too, they ALSO BLOCK the use of cheaper ink unless you stop the updates,
This is a super basic bottom of the bin printer. When you get higher model epsons they get very nice and quite fast at printing.
What if pictures are grainy
Seems that would be a problem with the photo file used and the final output size that you print. Try printing a higher resolution file.
android all the way for me
