Because in the end she COULD, and DID, walk away from vengeance and her destiny but he could never have walked away from Buffy and his destiny. He'd tried and failed too many times. Argh. But then, they're not the same thing because she seems to be walking away from something entirely negative (her reaction to her uncle is far from positive as it's shown, although we'll never know how she felt about the rest of her family) whereas he's walking away from the Council to be sure, but Buffy is something else entirely. It's all so complicated ARGGHHGHGHHGHG
Except he did walk away from Buffy in S6. He didn't come back in the finale or in S7 because of Buffy. He came back to stop Willow from ending the world and left immediatly, and then only came to Sunnydale because the Council blew up. He'd been attacked by a bringer, he had to go to Buffy or he was going to be killed for protecting the potentials he had.
