    What I said last season was that Ryan Gravenberch was the player I would least like to press of all the midfielders in the PL. He has a technically fabulous first touch, among the top in the league. And he is two footed. And he bends his knees to receive so he can reach far and shape his outside or inside foot to a wide range of angles. And with bent knees and his center of gravity low he can use his body effectively. The net effect is he can put the ball pretty much anywhere with his first touch, and leave you for dead.
    Now, it is not necessarily that he is the best midfielder in the league (although this season is making an argument), but that it is too difficult to learn from getting beaten by Gravenberch. He makes opposition players look stupid. There is not really any correct way to press him, other than do not press him. Press him and he is about 80% likely to leave you for dead.

    Gravenberch was best in class of Ajax youth for many years. Within Ajax scanning is a big part of the education. Frenkie de Jong (5 years older) was and still is a big example for Ryan. He once said Frenkie was playing with a drone above his head😀.

    • @floris44
      @floris44 21 день назад

      Exactly what I thought, he had to fill the same position at the time when de Jong left Ajax. He tends to glide through defenses with tall and slender body. He also had a powerful shot, but we haven’t seen that at Liverpool unfortunately.

    Mann, gravenberch its like Busquets of Barcelona without copying from any of them, this talent are really rare in football, having no.6 with sets of skills to control the pressure from opponent transitions and flip it in counter attack all in sudden by bring further upfield

  • @SonnyK248
    @SonnyK248 Месяц назад +8

    To think we only signed this guy because Romeo Lavia said no. Gravenberch has all the raw tools to become maybe the best midfielder in the world. I think he'll inevitably move out of the 6 position and be given a more free role as a box to box player and when that happens he will really stake a claim for one of the best midfielders around. He was compared to a young Paul Pogba at Ajax because of his size and athleticism and being a big box to box midfielder who could dribble the ball like a winger. I think his ceiling will be to become what Paul Pogba should have been.

    I enjoyed this video alot, so well done. It could well just be the scanning but I also think its the decisioning on what to do with the latest information. I suggest its his decisioning as much as if not more than his scanning.

    It feels like Slot has focused massively on gaining advantages with momentum and body position: we always look to make it favour us and unsettle the opponents. It’s clear with Grav and Trent spoke about it too.

    He was the boss on the midfield against Southampton...setting the pace... speeding up and slowing down the tempo. Through passing is on point...only thing left to improve is capitalising on his crazy shot on goal and maybe is header...imagine how bad Koeman has to be for benching him because he doesn't know how to use him 😂 good review and video btw

    Such a team game. This works because TAA and Van Dijk can hit 50-60 yard passes inch perfect to the forwards and have the freedom from slot to send the ball long so the back line don’t know whether to step or stay. It’s so fluid and adaptable it doesn’t matter who they play or how the other team sets up. The final third and finishing is the only thing that varies game to game. If that gets more consistent the title is theirs.

      Ryan doesn't just operate as a 6 but can turn into an 8 immediately with his jets has pace to beat opponents to play the final ball. He's still young and Slot is still putting it together so who knows how good Ryan will be next season with a full season under his belt.

    Try to at least get the guy's name right! Its crazy to hear GravenBertsh ?! twice within 20 seconds. So I stopped. In future just think of Dennis BERGkamp. And use that BERG pronunciation for Gravenberch. Goldberg, Bergkamp, gravenBERG. Even if written Berch don't pronounce like he is a russian. Kinda big fail considering all the effort put into making a video.

    • @SonnyK248
      @SonnyK248 Месяц назад

      He only had a year left on his deal at Ajax and refused a new contract. He was more valuable as a talent when Bayern bought him. He was seen as the top midfield prospect in Europe. When we signed him his value had gone down because he barely played for a year but because he had a long contract and it was Bayern selling him and not Ajax his price went up.
