    that is a big bloody stick - I can fully appreciate Jo's trepidation at moving this stick of carbon. Well done - so many to do lists

    Owners should not normally be around when the mast is removed, replaced, or moved!! Well done!!, The mast lifts and move even for me was a heart-stopper!

    Hello. Some adventure you have.
    It looks from your behavior the mast is fragile.
    How fragile is the mast ?

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  Год назад

      Hey Guy, no the mast is very strong and rigid, we were just being cautious

  • @charleslyster1681
    @charleslyster1681 2 года назад +2

    Nice job. Do you know what the mast weighs? I just wondered whether you could have managed with a 20 man lift instead of paying for a crane, given the distance is short?

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  2 года назад +4

      Thanks Charles. The mast is very light but the stainless steel rod is really big and thick, they’re probably about the same weight as the mast! We estimate about 1-1.5 tonnes in total? Yeah we did consider doing it with lots of people but we were worried incase someone trips over or bashes something and cranes are easy to organise and v cheap in Fiji

      @@SailingNV that makes sense; my experience of cranes that size has been very costly but if they aren’t then it makes good sense. Nemo is looking great now isn’t he!?

      @@charleslyster1681 yeah I know what you mean, that is one very convenient thing about doing the refit in fiji hehe. Yeah Nemo is great 🥰 just wish he’d learn to sleep for a few more hours in a row 😬

    I would put old carpet on the wood so no damage to mask to ???

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  2 года назад +2

      There are tyres on top of the wood and yes we have put a layer of carpet between the mast and tyres, to not damage the painting, good thinking

    What about an aluminium mask get rid of the cost of carbon fibre one ???

    • @SailingNV
      @SailingNV  2 года назад +1

      We love the carbon mast, so we want to conserve it as best we can. An aluminium one would be a lot heavier… let’s hope we never have to think about replacing our one 🤞

    • @vivianbond7449
      @vivianbond7449 2 года назад

      @@SailingNV more heavier the boat the more she would Cruise along to slow the boat down a bit other wise it’s in race mod all the time and no rest for you because you got to be on you feet all the time to take your time and see all the world Instade of race around and see half of the world to lol

    • @H-77
      @H-77 2 года назад +2

      @@vivianbond7449 There are a lot of advantages to reducing weight aloft, both for cruising and for racing. If anything, the boat will be more controllable with a lighter rig.
      Also, you probably don't want to know what a new aluminum mast would cost to have fabricated.
