Absolutely stunning craftsmanship. With today's super detailed kits, especially in the larger scales, scratch build has almost become a lost art. Especially at this level. It's an art form that when it disappears will render true artisan ship to history and the hobby will be poorer for it, Thanks for taking the time to edit and upload this video.
Thanks Randy. You know for some of us, modellers, there is no such thing as enough details :) Although there is a bit of sadness when you close your work inside the fuselage never to be seen again :) (Trying to limit that to minimum myself)
I bought the HobbyBoss Hellcat to build a diorama of one in a bomb crater, but the wings are too gorgeous to not fold them. So I bought the Eduard kit with the whole wing to use for the diorama, getting lots of great tips from your build episodes.
You are one serious modeller, I salute you! Where do you get your tech info for the engines? I myself started off using the original Airfix models with written instructions and obtained a lot of useful info for component names. I've now restarted after a very long break. So it's very good to find someone like you on youtube!
Thanks Robert. The R-2800 is very popular engine so there is quite a lot of info about it (but there are a lot of modifications as well). The tach details I got from an old diagram... it was somewhere in the top search results. Thanks for commenting.
You are one tricky rick Bad-Ass-Modeler. You remind me of a friend of mine who builds model ships. He goes to the same painstaking detail that you do. After watching you guys I think I'll just build Lego's from now on. LMAO! Seriously, you're an artist and a damn fine modeler and I truly enjoy watching your work. Thank you for sharing! This is the standard plastic engine from the kit, Eduard sells resin upgrade set for the engine separately but it is overkill if you don't open up some panels IMHO.
Hi Francis, thanks for your question. There are several reasons. First there is the diameter, at least the lead wires I have, start from 0.3mm, and the copper wire is more like 0.1mm. And there is also the question of color... if you need copper color... well you don't need to paint the copper wire :). Hope this answers your question.
I tried to add details only where they would be visible. But most of them are visible only when you have the model in your hand and want to see them :)

Oh, thanks for the response, MM, but I was just being a smart ass. I would never use someone else's work--no matter how incredible it is--in one of my own kits. It was just my way of saying that I considered your detailing and scratch-building to be outstanding.
Wished I could pay you to build me 4 R-1820 Cyclone engines to fit HK 1/48 scale B-17 model! I have blown money off 2 diffrent kits and screwed up all 8 engines I hv arthritis and my fingers can’t handle the small parts and especially wires. To look real but haven’t found anyone to build me 4 of them
I feel for you mate. If holding paintbrush is ok probably you can search for 3d printed engines. They usually come in one piece with wires and all. You just have to paint them
beyond my skills ...W O W
Thanks Alice, skill can be developed :)
and i definately dont have te patience ...or the eye sight anymore lol . im impressed
Thanks again mate 👍
beyond my skills, patience, AND finger... those are an artist's fingers we see here :-)
I think it shows research too.
As a new subscriber, i am so glad i stumbled upon this series, great work and a joy to watch
Thank you and welcome aboard!

One of the best 1/48s engines I've seen. Great skills.
Thanks Angus!
Patience is a virtue. Beautiful.
Thanks mate, I totally agree!
You sir are quite welcome! Thank you for sharing your talents as to how you do things. Very interesting for sure.
Wow...hats off to your skill and patience. Amazing stuff mate, well done!!

Thanks for watching! It makes me happy if my videos actually help someone :)
execelent work 5 stars better 6 stars tks for the video

Dig the spark plug music.....and the finished presentation music at the end...kinda Mad Men at the bar....
My 👀 were starting to hurt from all the small details!

Part of the hobby, isn't it :)

Muchas gracias!

Thanks for your nice words Michael. :)
Other than the spark plug wires not being black and the cylinders not painted black or some shade of grey not a bad job
Holly molly..i will just get the brassin kit..😜
Yes it's good kit, but most of the details will be invisible if you don't open up some access panels. I only detailed what I thought will be visible.
1:42 that was close...you nearly had red pre-shading on the crankcase.
May I ask what camera you are using please.
:) yes it was close... I usually try to keep my fingers away from the blade :)I think that this was the first video with my Cannon Legria HFR706
Sir hi, a great video, many things to learn, but I would not go through all this hazel & headache. Cheers
Does this F6F-3 come with the Resin Engine kit or is it separate?
This is the standard plastic engine from the kit, Eduard sells resin upgrade set for the engine separately but it is overkill if you don't open up some panels IMHO.
Such precision, however there are two plugs to every cylinder but who is counting.
Thanks. There are two plugs per cylinder, one in front and one on the back.
Where does on learn about the schematics and different components of the engines?
Wikipedia, Google... If you want to get deeper... Engineering school 😉
beautiful job. where did you get specs/photo of engine to follow?
Thanks, I found many pictures online. Google is your friend :)
thanks for your prompt reply :)
Is AK Extreme the paint brand name for all the paints?
AK interactive is the brand, Extreme metal is a series of metalizer paints.
Stupid question maybe... i never scratch build anything. What makes you chose between Copper or lead wire
Hi Francis, thanks for your question. There are several reasons. First there is the diameter, at least the lead wires I have, start from 0.3mm, and the copper wire is more like 0.1mm. 6:22 😱 you are damned serious about the details...😂
Thanks mate, sometimes I do get carried out :)
I want to skip to the very end to see the finished build. I really hope some of this awesome detailing isn’t lost in the engine housing...🤔
I tried to add details only where they would be visible. But most of them are visible only when you have the model in your hand and want to see them :)
Can you tell me the brand or source for the self-adhesive aluminum tape you are using to create the metal bands on the spark plug wires?
+Gregory Rush one of many options www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/All-3M-Products/Adhesives-Tapes/Industrial-Adhesives-and-Tapes/Specialty-Tapes/Foil-Tape/?N=5002385+8710676+8710815+8710978+8711017+8713632+3294857497&rt=r3
That's more or less what I had found, I was just concerned about the thickness. Didn't want it out of scale! :)
+Gregory Rush The one I have is pretty thin, but its not 3m or other well known company.
Wow outstanding, its going to be a shame to bury it in a cowl. Its a model within itself.
Thanks Greg, I have planned carefully so most of my work will be visible... I could have added a ton mote details but, as you said, why bury them.
Yes, please do not hide this engine. It deserves to be admired.
Spellbinding. Now if you could only mass produce those, a la P&W, I would like two for a P-61 build ... ;)
+darrellid thanks darrel, i am afraid this is out of my scope but eduard's brassin stuff is really good, you can change the leads and it's done :)
Oh, thanks for the response, MM, but I was just being a smart ass. I would never use someone else's work--no matter how incredible it is--in one of my own kits. It was just my way of saying that I considered your detailing and scratch-building to be outstanding.
I noticed one of the bolts you scratch built was slightly bigger than the others. This is ridiculous.
I like to give the mechanics a head ache 😃
te felicito querido, pero la verdad hay que estar medio chiflado para tomarse tanto trabajo
Haha, thanks :)
