I sailed on her as a child, about a decade after she did her sea trials. She was a lovely ship!

Worked by on her in Tilbury dock's, didn't sail on her, ended up being transferred to the Orcades, this was 1963, a year later I was on the Oronsay, working in the Silver Grill, Arthur Smith was the head waiter. The three sister ships.Great times.

My aunt Diane and her new husband Patrick left Tilbury in late 1960 bound for Melbourne Australia on *ORSOVA*. I still have the photographs I took of my Grannie and Grandpa, my parents and mum's youngest sister, husband an baby daughter who were with us to see off my Aunty Diane and her husband Patrick. In early March 1961, Grandpa, Grannie my mum's youngest sister husband and daughter departed the UK in late February 1961 for Melbourne on *ORION* and my parents my younger brother, youngest sister and I left Tilbury in mid March for Melbourne Australia on *ORONSAY,* sister ship to *ORSOVA AND ORCADES.* What wonderful memories I had boarding on those ships as a youngster aged 14 years. What carefree days. Orsova and Oronsay looked identical and all three sisters Orcades, Oronsay and Orsova sported a *"WELSH BONNET* on their funnels. I called in at Port Melbourne to see for the last time, ORONSAY, the ship I loved which was on her last voyage en route to Tilbury. It broke my heart to see her beautiful buff hull, the green band along her waterline changed to the P & O sickly colour of white.

GNDL was her radio callsign and I worked her over those early years by morsecode via HF radio from ZLB/Awaruaradio.
