    It's nice to see you're experimenting a bit with different cutting tools. There is a lot to learn from it.
    Just one little tip. Your shaper was feeding on the cutting stroke. It should feed on the return stroke.
    And don't worry, your sons are perfectly normal :)

    • @jster1963
      @jster1963  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much! I thought I had it timed to advance on the back stroke, but I will make sure it does. Yes, my boys got me and I love it. Thank you again and Merry Christmas…..

    I really like the shaper videos and stories. I have the same Atlas 7B shaper but with a now factory vise. My suggestion would be to get the belt guard for the motor to countershaft pulley. It allows you to use the clutch lever to leave the motor running and start and stop the ram instead of having to use the on off switch all the time. You can then also stop it where you want it. Without the motor belt guard the ram keeps moving even when releasing the tension on the belt with the clutch lever. With a motor belt guard installed, when the tension is released the guard keeps the belt oval shaped so that it no longer rides on the motor pulley and then the ram stops moving. It’s a bit counterintuitive but the motor belt guard is an integral part of the clutch operation.

      Thank you so much! I really want to get guards for my shaper, but they are crazy expensive. Someday I hope to find them in a flee market so I can afford them. I’ll keep looking and thank you again…..

    Really enjoy the airplane stories. You may want to try using a sulfur based oil when machining steel. That's what I use and it makes quite a difference on the finish.

    The hospitals had to start doing the same thing during surgery. First, they had to keep a strict inventory of all the tools counting them prior to surgery and post surgery but after sponges causes Rex being left in patients now they have to count everything that’s being used prior to surgery and post surgery.

    • @jster1963

      Absolutely! I was in the O.R. for both of my sons being born to C-sections. They counted everything. They did the same with tools and everything needed for and engine overhaul. And thank you very much.....

    For mill scale, you can easily remove it with some muriatic acid (acid used for cleaning concrete). It will fizz right off.

    Great video. We have the same shop set up. I have a Southbend 9A, and an Atlas shaper and horizontal mill. One question, did you consider cross hatching the jaws using the shaper to improve the grip of the jaws?

    The new procedure is just like in an operating room. They have to count all sponges, implements, syringes and needles. Too many lawyers were getting rich.
