Greetings: 5-way binding posts with banana sockets: when mounting these, I try my best to have a 3/4" spacing allowing use of standard dual banana plugs that have matching spacing (I've always known them as General Radio plugs). Using them reduces the temptation to use separate SIGNAL & RETURN wires to the speakers; especially when those speakers have matching banana jacks. Also, I would use heat-shrink tubing to insulate the exposed portion.of the binding post threads.
wow,i so enjoyed trying to keep up,but man ,its like they say,you pay for for what people know and not what they do,i was well impressed, thanks very much for making my head hurt.great stuff ,cheers
I'd love to compare this 232 with my 402. Even with its puny outputs and tone controls bypassed, it still has very pleasing bass. I can't believe how detailed & full it is.
I really like finding old component reference books and service manuals but just as an experiment googled RCA RC-30 and took seconds to download a reproduction in PDF format...! And, when you figure out the page number method...go to top delete page number type in the page number and click return and hey presto ...straight to page information you have your specific Valve/Tube information. Great Video and liking the tips and tricks.
Does adding a chassis ground introduce any type of noise in the signal? It seems to me that having the neutral and ground both tied to the chassis would create a ground loop.
It is strange that the white wire would be connected to the fuse holder. White is neutral in the power cord. The black wire is the hot wire and is normally connected to the fuse. Green , of course is ground. I find it odd that it could be fused on the neutral line. Could it be that the cord that was in the unit is mis-installed? As long as the hot and neutral lines are both isolated from the chassis it will work, but the wiring seems strange.
This unit is considered to be an SA-232. Have you ever worked on the 232, no SA, 3 channel? The circuit is a little different and it has 0-4-8-16 ohm outputs. It's really hard to find a schematic for it. Anyone out there know where to get that schematic, please comment.
Nice amp. I have 4 each Pilot 232s and all of them are upgaraded with different parts. AudioCap Theta, Hovland, Mundorf and M-Caps. Best performer is AudiocapTheta.
Grate video can you make a video on Pete Millet software on installing it. I can't seem to get mine to work properly, it seems the plot drops on ether end of the trace. I don't know if you know on the HP 8903 you can get a watt reading by punching 19.008 special for 8 ohm and 19.004 for 4 ohm thanks George
really like your videos of repairing tube gear, I have a vintage 1950's Harman Kardon 250 Epic receiver and matching tuner which is T250 Ode I would like to install CL90's on both the amp and tuner for current where would I install them in these units?
.11 and .24 thd between channels? That's a 100%+ difference. It seems like a lot. What's the threshold of human perception on thd? At what point would you (personally) be able to hear the difference? Love the vids. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
+Arnold Rimmer Gosh no, thats like a millionaire debating over a dime or a nickel. Both of those values are so small relative to what's good, its not even worth noticing.
Just speaking to the amp itself, no reflection on your work, but the the overall component installation looks pretty haphazard. Is this a kit? I know an amp is about the sound and the sloppiest assembled device can perform the best but the insides look like a tornado in a trailer park.
Get either CL-70 or CL-60, either will work fine and both are made by many manufacturers. Always NTC (negative) for this use. Just search for CL-60 Thermistor.
Very nice work.. My only issue is why not use 18 aw SOW? It is so far softer and manageable. Good quality power tools used to use this but alas most of them have also caved into the abyss of quantity vs quality and in America why buy it once when you can buy it several times because they are too stupid and cheap to buy it once.

Another great video by Mark the wizard. Good show man. Love the videos
Great information. I feel comfortable to rebuild mine now.
Grounding solution is suboptimal, should be using a crimp eyelet bolted to the chassis with a dedicated bolt using starwashers.

Your time on that is fairly quick. People have no idea. To do the job correct, it's a very time consuming job. And I do it every day.

Whats?your impressions of the Pilot 230 ? Worth buying and recapping ? Price 400US?
36:12 - I believe the imbalance in volume would be taken care of by the negative feedback loop.

Lovely! I wish you lived closer.. :)
What was the power output and THD?
Great video! Thanks!

That's the way they used to do it. I have a 232 3 channel model that looks just like that on the inside.
How do we contact this fella? He doesn't respond to his comments. I have an amp needing work.
Why paper in oil caps? Aren't they obsolete? And unstable?
Please give us the specs for the thermistor, manufacturer, part number, ohms, positive or negative.

+James Lucas Cost and availability...
I thought the audio on your previous videos sounded just fine. It sounds worse now.
+The8TrackChap I may order a new camera...
15:20 - Don't place records on top of a receiver!

I'm looking for some Marantz units. wanna sell any?
Heyco bushing

The effect you hear in the audio is the result from very bad audio resampling.
That amp is a jumbled mess
