(The Wheel of Time is an American fantasy television series developed by Rafe Judkins for Amazon Prime Video. The series is based on the book series of the same name by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. Moiraine Damodred, a member of the Aes Sedai, a powerful organization of women who can channel the One Power, seeks a group of five young people from the secluded village of Emond's Field in the Two Rivers, believing one of them is the reincarnation of the Dragon, an extremely powerful male channeller responsible for the Breaking of the World. The Dragon Reborn is prophesied to either save the world from a primordial evil known as the Dark One or break it once more. #thewheeloftime
So disappointed not to get the trailer today but let's theorize with what we have 😂
Spoilers ahead
- the old guy is definitely holding fireworks and the yellow logo behind him is the illuminator logo.
- it looks more like an octopus than an intestine but it doesn't really matter 😅
- mat starts his disguise as a drag, gets fed up with the veil and goes with a hat. I would guess the hat from the still, because they might be buying something from him and he decides to get his hat as a joke in the deal.
- I think the man statue is representing Guaire, a false dragon from a 1000 years ago that was captured thanks to the domination band that looks like the Seanchan a'dam. This became a kind of local superstition like the way Steppin used the forsaken ones in S1 ep5. The woman has just given birth and is "praying" for her baby sanity and not getting the curse of channeling. If I extrapole, I can see Liandrin remembering (she is from Tarabon) this statue from seeing the A'dam of the Seanchan and get back there to study this myth more. That gives us a reason for the BA to be there. Blue ajah eyes and ears get the words out and the squad goes there, see the statue and get a "oh shit moment" and look for dom band ad well.
I think this myth could also be a kickstart for the prophet religion.

In the photos of Tanchico we got the other day Mat is wearing that same jacket. Also the guy behind him is selling fireworks I think as an illuminator
Oh also: I think that might be a brief flashback for Tarabon native Liandrin, where she's escaping from her forced marriage and giving birth to Aludra. We know there's gonna be good eating for fans of the Nynaeve/Moghedien dynamic so why not include more of Liandrin to keep up that connection?
Re the statue: we were all convinced at Dusty Wheel that he's wearing a male a'dam... So at the very least it could be symbolic that she gives birth there, given her future as Red/Black

In trying to justify the image with the statue and "young bloody girl" holding an infant as one of 4 images for this early article I am leaning more and more to this being a cold open of Liandrin right after the birth of Aludran. I am wondering if she goes to this captive man statue and prays and we hear her pledge to the Dark One for the life of her child.
I think Taraboner men also wear veils in the books - so it may not be that Mat is wearing clothes that count as feminine in the setting, so much as the setting doesn't gender its fashion in the same way we'd expect.
But Mat def has the most chaotic energy in terms of gender and sexuality in the books so I'm down if he's more gender-bendy with his fashion decisions. Though perhaps the decision was actually made by a local monarch who had taken a liking to him (hopefully in a much less non-consensual way than in Ebou Dar...)
That is 100% an Illuminator, possibly Tammuz, selling fireworks, so I really hope we will meet Aludra.

I think that Min will replace (storywise) Egeanin and Mat will replace Juilin Sandar. I think that they’ll want to cut some minor characters from the story and combine their roles with already-established characters. Losing Egeanin (if I’m correct in my prediction) will hurt, but I can’t imagine her being particularly important to the story at this point. I mean she’s important for Nyneve’s character arc but not so much to the plot of the Shadow Rising

Even Tarabon soldiers wear a mail veil over their faces. So yes, men wear veils. They are usually see through. I don't know what's going on with Mat. It wouldn't surprise me that they put Mat in drag. More backhanded insults to male characters.
I find it weird to see drag as an insult.
In Ebu Dar, Mat is wearing frilly laces and pink ribbons all the time.

Yes almost every mention of a Tarboner male mentions mustaches and veils.
I have to say that, as a huge fan of the books, the series sucks ass.
