I think the part that most of use should take note of, is about how to choose to place the first foundation. That part I think is by far the most important here.
Also a bit difficult to replicate when trying to learn by doing in order to see the game's reaction to certain actions and alignments while pondering original ideas. Im still on my first slow-play-through and damn there are a bunch of quirks. Its pre-release though, and it doesnt help that im quite a bit anal and ocd. It made Cities Skylines 2 and Frostpunk hell on me on the "building a functional, surviving community" side. Maybe NMS made me lazy and/or rusty. 😆 That said, that initial placement is crucial and I learned a lot and love the vid. Maybe ill be rebuilding/restructuring a lot less during base relocations now. 🤘

New survival/base game player here. Saw your vid and decided I would try to start learning here. It was a monster to get the initial foundation placed and oriented correctly.. figure I got it like 95% correct. Still trying to get the palbox pyramid correct but its very close so far. Love the creation man. I demolished what base I had on this same location to build this.. looks infinitely better. Great creative mind bro.
Getting that first foundation piece positioned just right is turning into a nightmare for me. Devs need to make it so we can adjust the initial placement of a foundation piece after its placed so we can get it adjusted how we want. The camera perspective we have is just bad for adjusting heights.
It gets really tricky when matching up foundations on two levels so that the part on the hill is aligned correctly with ceiling pieces from the lower foundation. Takes quite a bit of trial-and-error, but it allows you to put a level floor across the whole area while keeping all of the ore nodes available.
@@IcyTorment Yeah, I found out after finally completing the building that the first coal node the entire base is lined up on was too close in my game, so it stopped spawning. I think this video could benefit from showing how Dauntus placed that first foundation, not just where it was placed.
@@zdreamworkshd9241 for me just try to mimic the video as close as possible try to put the first foundation as close as possible to the peak of the mountain
For the first foundation you should show the one which is next to the charcoal boulder at 4:28. To have accuracy I was at your initial foundation position and face the boulder, then i approch it with stone foundation and when it turn red because of the boulder a just step back a bit and place the foundation, like that I am more accurate overall.

Place it down and then fly up before you build it! You can always build something tiny like a floor torch next to the box to check your spacing and see where you built previously
A few things i may add. To prevent a pal from getting stuck under stairs, be sure you enclose bouth sides with walls (also 3 stairs size is better for pathing). If there is a hole on stairs and item on ground on other side, pal will try to pick it up and get stuck. Second thing. When you build on big hills you can raise the foundation as high as possible and then put stairs on side. After this you make a foundation under those stairs (takes a few trys to get it perfect) as close as game allows you to height and your pals will still be able to use those stairs as they were normal. 3... to remove anoying trees i recomend just making a bed on that spot. (if you cant make foundation due to ore being to close) 4. So since your jormuntige ignus like to climb the trees so much (the one for farming), i found a solution yesterday: Make a room 2x2 and place down farming spot at edge. Enclose this edge with walls 3 in height. Now for spot where pals farm, make 2 walls high and put roof on top. Now climb this roof and make angeled roof to the 3 wall to enclose the trees. This will prevent your dumb ai from finding a way to climb it.
oh yeah, it'd be fun to see your Blazamut and Anubis mine, and with some Fuack and Flopie carrying the Ore and Coal back to the box... I feel so happy sometimes I fly some where and see some where far away my base, and then I fly closer and see them all working
I got close placement but u could make 2-3 more on how to place ur base facilities and talk about coords and orientation.. ur vid was great man, u just have more to share that will help us and u will get views bc we wanna see it Edit: By "2-3 more" I mean 2 or 3 more vids on ur placement... would be dope my man. This base location just so happens to be where my ore and coal base is, but I think I'm dissembling my whole main base and putting this where my ore and coal base is because this is sick and I need a third base for raid bosses
I made a base here from what I saw in your first video as inspiration. That said since Ore mines are a thing now I didn't bother protecting the ore nodes just the coal. I made the castle not quite balanced the left side with the stairs goes out abit more I made it a 4 wide staircase with the leftmost 2 ending one level lower and built my 'home' as an middle floor of the under the stairs area and i made a 'workshop' in the area you put a door to under the stairs with all the stuff that pals don't really use repair/condenser/incubator/power statue. still fiddling to try to make the roof area look like I want.
I noticed this base is pretty different from your old video. Is this an upgrade to the original base? I didn't see double furnaces and the top was a bit different, any reason for that? Don't get me wrong, it was a great video and build tutorial. I just wanted to know why you changed the layout.
10 minutes? Thats insane. Took me much longer but I was also trying to play with the build zone at the same time (thinking my original placement was just too far off). I wonder how long and how many cuts/redos it took daunt to make this an acceptable instructional just due to the alignments.
I only can if I build a wall first. Still can't get foundations of different levels to line up and connect the way some people can. No idea if it's a controller vs mouse/keyboard, version issue(steam), or just skill issue .
Those storage containers on top out side of the Blue wouldn't count as base storage though would they? because it has to be in the blue for it to work for base stuff
I'm building in the same space and am having trouble with all the trees. I noticed some of the comments were from months ago and am wondering if the devs changed the rng for trees? I noticed in past I would find a perfect place to build a base only to have it radically altered when a new update was added. Anyone else having this tree problem?
Anyone had issues with the coal nodes not respawning? I believe it’s these two near the structure. 4:32 and 5:49 Are they TOO close and are preventing the nodes from respawning? Like mentioned about removing the staircase 😢
Nice build! I noticed you placed a storage crate at the right rear outside of the blue circle. Will pals be able to access that storage? Would pals be able to utilize things like the ranch if it at least touches the line? Never tried that out yet.

How do you get the stairs to attach to the bottom of the foundation? My stairs always seem to attach to the top of the foundation. How do you get the overhang on the stairs?
I have been frustrated countless times base after base with all the pathing problems. "Pal can't reach "is mind boggling and can ruin an entire base design.So you have it all planned out this fits here this there so on and so on then all of a sudden those plans are foiled and makes me start all over than to try and rework an entire base design not knowing if those changes will work.

I made a very similar base to this could not replicate it exact and i could not place ranch or breeding farm without blocking ores or coals so i made another floor just for those 2 things

I'm having difficulty with the 1st foundation . I'm trying to line up exactly where you are on that hill and if I line it up to meet with the 1st coal node than when I build the back wall I can only go 4 or 5 blocks without It saying not touching ground. Idk how your lining up with that coal and still have room
I had the same problem, but it turned out I didn't place the first block far enough to the left. If you extend it forward you should just about line up with an ore node. Hope this helps

Devs need to make it so you hold a button and the object locks into the world grid.

They do because the corners are in the circle! I readjusted the palbox and now it fits and covers everything.

It took a lot of trial and error. Maybe 4-5 placements. One you get the first foundation stone down through you are golden :) it’s all about the angle

So I've been told if you build over (roof included) the ore/coal node wont respawn. Does your node respawn?
