This is my favourite of Peter Cook's characters. I'd really love to see you react to his "Experiences down the mine" sketch; I'm in stitches every time.
Hey Mr Squirrel, I was robbed and it is your fault! I saw on Ebay hats designed by the famous Mr Squirrel from RUclips so I bought one. What arrived was a woolen hat, a role of duct tape and a permanent marker pen, I obviously complaind as I hadn't had a go this year only for the seller to point out that in the description it clearly stated that it was a DIY "Hey Mr squirrel hat" .. Being British I didn't want to complain twice in the one year and besides the duct tape stopped the leak in my roof, just wished the hat wasn't for a kid and the marker pen worked. Thanks for the laughs Mr S.
Golly, Peter Cook on the Bernard Braden show, I had forgotten all about that show, televised during my early-mid teens. They were all so funny & we didn’t even notice it was in b/w as apart from occasional cinema visits in colour (& real life of course 😉) most things were in b/w then.
E. L. Wisty was one of Peter Cook's first creations, think he was based on a school master he had known. He appeared quite regularly on Braden 's programmes, so there are a few videos saved, though many were lost. He usually kept a straight face, and the odd subjects he discoursed on were so original for the age. Plenty of gold left in the Peter Cook mine.
The crowd looked a bit like the fake crowd of old ladies monty python would cut to from time to time. But it was presumably the real deal on this. Peter Cook was so great. Timeless characters. Very enjoyable to watch things I'd never seen before or not in a long time and see you enjoy them too squirrel. Thank you.
I remember that Bernard Braden was a big deal on the BBC, until he was kicked off for advertising margarine on the rival commercial ITV channel. Satire was huge in the UK in the 1960s, in the context of the normal deference to authority figures at the time.
EL Wisty - the ultimate obsessionalist. Brilliant stuff.

Your life was in colour? you must have been very rich
That was funny and will always be funny in 20 years 😹🤣😂🐿️💚
That must have been on a program called the braydon beat ? God brings back memories.
There was The Braden Beat, then they changed the name to Braden's Week. Not sure why, think it was linked to a general makeover.
Those were the days of Bernard Braden, the Canadian, on TV. As for EL Wisty...he planned for word domination by 1958...in the sixties 🤣

You just had to look at Peter and laugh. Legend.
Cook was also one of the greatest ad-libbers ever. Genius

You must listen to some Derek and Clive. Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Pretty "blue", but stupidly hilarious.
The horse race commentary is my favourite.
lol Hey whats up 🥬
The whale is not really a fish at all. It’s an insect.
The Americans have no sense of humor. The only funny American was Victor Borge - and he was Danish.
