Fame, success, so much critisism, constructive and otherwise, can turn you into a completely different person, to the point when you feel completely differently and this influences the way you talk, hold yourself etc. This doesn't seem to happen to him at all. It's so fascinating to watch him growing into this massive artist while keeping true to himself and his values. He's kind of mesmerizing in this regard

I don’t remember if it was Twitter or Tumblr but someone theorised it was because S*mon knew they would be big. If they won, they would have their pick of record labels and he wanted them. By having them make it to the finals and not win, they’d feel indebted to him, sign with SyCo and make him a bunch of money.
I remember watching this season when it was on in 2010 and Matt Cardle never really had to grow/develop - his vocals were incomparable and he really was such a deserving winner. He was 110% every week, had stage presence, and even the 1D boys said they hoped he'd win if not them. As brilliant as One Direction were, they still had a ton of room to improve individually and as a band (as we saw over the next 5 years). I think if 2015 1D competed, they probably would have won, but here they were still just kids who had a lot of training and practising to do. They also were really only marketed to a younger audience - I was 23 at the time and barely took notice of them. Honestly, let's be happy they came 3rd because it gave the fans the drive to get the word out there about them. :) If they'd won, they might have ended up like a lot of X Factor winners - unheard of after 6 months.
