  • Last years roadtrip contained so much video content that I've decided to upload the movie in 3 parts.
Part 1 - our journey to CZ and SK.
Part 2 - Tatra museum, meeting with friends and more driving.
Part 3 - meeting more friends en more driving.
All three Skoda's did great on the 3500 km long roadtrip. One small defect occurred on the 120 l. The brake light switch failed, but was easily solved after a roadside repair.
It was very warm this summer that even our sunglasses melted in the car, but the Skoda's didn't suffer from it. Not one single cooling problem in the mountains or hot asphalt on the highway. Once again these cars proved to be extremely reliable.
A special thanks to all our Czech and Slovakian friends for their enormous warm welcome and guiding us around. You make our roadtrips unforgettable! Until next year!

What a great convoy, especially with the Tatra up front! Some wonderful scenery along the way.

Thanks! The Tatra was really impressive and in such a good condition. Hadn’t seen one on the road for years. The owner was a member of the Loprais family. They currently participate with their Praga on Dakar 2023 with Aleš as driver. They have a beautiful Tatra collection and they are doing great at Dakar. Currently second in general in the truck category. 💪🏻

@@MrSkoda105s Thank you for the info - nice to know a bit of the background story. There are a handful of Tatra cars in the UK, and I've seen a few at East European car events over the years, but never on the road. Always nice to see (and hear!).

Prachtig!

Takes me back 30 years to my two Skoda 120Ls, in which I toured all over the UK and in Germany, France and the Low Countries.

That’s nice! I still have two 120 LS. Model 1977 and model 1986. In 2020 I took one of the 120 LS to CZ. So you did some long distance traveling back in the days too. Were they reliable? Our family Škoda always traveled without any major problems all over Europe. One of the guys, who joined the trip, crossed whole Europe too with their family Škoda. Our furthest trip was Austria and they even went to Hungary.

@@MrSkoda105s In the UK in the early 90s you could buy really good 120L examples very cheap from Skoda main dealers, example: £800 got you a 4 years old LSE example with sunroof, one owner, 20,000 miles, immaculate condition, serviced and warranty for a year. They were ultra reliable because they were owned by older drivers and had been well treated, looked after, cleaned and garaged.
Faults were minor in the 5 years and 50,000 miles I covered. I remember a coil got hot on a hot day on the motorway and melted the plastic case with some smoke and a few flames! Put it out with a wet cloth! The car club guy got there an hour later, started the car up and the melted coil still worked! (but he fitted another).. I had some cooling issues once touring in the NL ( bubbling) - an old boy at the Skoda dealer in Utrecht fixed it by a good flushing. A steering wheel snapped off (!) near the Lowestoft UK Skoda dealers. He gave me an old used spare one in his store and fitted it for a fiver. A head gasket once. Not much else went wrong.
Eventually I needed something a little bigger, and traded the second battleship grey 120L for a white Favorit GLXi Estate in 2006. Since then 2 Felicia 1.3LXi Estates ( blue, grey), A yellow 2004 Fabia 1.2HTP (for 14 years!) and now a 2014 silver Rapid 1.2SE.

@@frglee Thank you so much for your enthusiastic comment! Great to read those stories. Those were the deals back in the days. Second hand you could buy one for almost nothing. And you had a good and reliable car, value for your money. In the 80's my parents bought a used 120 ls form an elderly man. It was like new because it was indeed garaged.
Great to read about all the miles that you've covered with your rear wheel drive Škoda. Maybe the overheating issues in NL were the beginning of a failed head gasket already. Lot's of Skoda's had this issue because the cooling fan switch in the radiator stopped working after a while. If they've used better switches or dealers were more attentive a lot of Škoda engines could have been prevented form overheating. Never heard about a steering wheel snap. Have seen the older type bakelite crack though. True as you described most of the time low costs for maintenance or repairs. Easy fixes.
So you have owned a lot of Škoda’s over the years. We never had a Favorit. I always begged my dad not to sell the family 120 L and trade it for a Favorit. They kept on driving it, skipped model Favorit, and Felicia and went from the 120 L straight to an Octavia which they still drive (23 years later ;-) Skoda's always will be in our family.

Yes, you’ve recognized it. Our holiday home was in Frenštát. Not that far from where you live I believe? A very nice area and cottage. We even could park the 3 Škoda’s indoors. And not that far from Slovakia. It was my first time in SK. Are you also enjoying Dakar? Yesterday some bad luck but today was a good day. Finished 10th I just saw in the standings. Meet you probably somewhere in te comments. 😃👌🏻

@@tomasfrkal6362 Slovakia was absolutely great. Liked it just as much as CZ. Some bad luck on day one for Klymciw, but now they are really good and coming back. I also follow the Loprais team with their Praga. We’ve met Aleš and his team this summer. In fact it was Leo driving the Tatra in the video. They took us to their shop so we could see the preparations for Dakar. 🤩
