I wish we had something like those genestealer bikes for Imperial guard. A bike mounted squad with their heavy weapons being carried on a quad would work very well. We'd need an improvement to rough riders to make them not instantly obsolete though; maybe different mount options? Also, if they do eventually make primaris bikes, I want there to be 3 size categories of bike: light fast jet bikes probably with a reentry shield on the front so they can do direct orbital insertion, medium weight wheeled bikes that look mostly the same as the current bikes but a little bigger and with actual suspension, and larger half track bikes (think kettenkrad) for terminator like units or other super heavy mounted infantry. Maybe a dreadnought sized one in that category so the poor white scars dreadnoughts can keep up.

Regarding the Biophagus' Bond villainesque appearance, I've always felt that playing the GCs in Deathwatch Overkill (and, to a slightly lesser extent, 40K itself) always makes me feel like a Bond villain: it encourages you to send expendable minions to keep foes busy, while concentrating your more valuable assets against things you actually intend to kill; tying enemies up in close combat so they're unable to evade the explosive charges you've set to blow up the platform they're standing on, telepathically paralysing a foe before unleashing your deadliest minions upon them... In short, I feel the Bond villain analogy is completely accurate. :D
You should go for it! They’re somewhat challenging to paint with lots of small details but very rewarding because of the very unique as you said “mad max” presence. And they are very challenging to play! 10/10, would recommend
My theory is, Tunnels are often dug circular, the saws on the Goliath shield aren’t to dig out a tunnel but so it doesn’t get stuck on a rocky out cropping if the tunnels diameter is a bit too small, idk what the bottom one is for tho because it should have good ground clearance.
You know, I got my own genestealer army, and I have been using them not only as genestealers who were born of a black goo, but also using some of the units stand in for my IG army/ traitor guard army, or even using the neophytes to boost the infantry numbers on my guard army. So I get some milage out of these guys
The thing that makes the Genestealer Cult so horrifying to me is they don't come out of eggs, the aren't made in tubes, they aren't summoned from the Warp, some woman gave birth to every one of these monstrosities.
Ahhh, I think that I still have the White Dwarf with the first set of Genestealer Cult rules. I seem to remember having to role for number of arms on certain generations! 11:56 - trouser accident.
Yes, join the cult, we can field also the forgeworld astra militarum tanks. Jokes aside the best thing about this range is the level of bits you get. Like the neophyte you get 10 shotguns, 10 autoguns, 1 granade launcher, 1 flamer, 1 webber, 1 mining laser, 1 heavy stubber, 1 seismic cannon. All of those weapons just for 1 squad. The acolytes one is the same for the metamorph hybrids so you get AAALL OF THE ARMS, plus 5 autopistols, 5 hand flamers, 1 rock cutter, 1 rock grinder, big explosives, 1 big drill from a modeling and kitbashing standpoin is my favourite range
You could always use the goliath as a terrain piece in a ruin since the cults use those vehicle's because they're standard industrial equipment having a beat up or destroyed truck would fit nicely on an imperial ruins table. This is only really viable if your into making your own terrain
@kirioth you mentioned in the forgeworld guard video that the elysian tauros buggies were discontinued. A simple weapon and crew conversion of the achilles would work wonders for that
For the Broodlord the design principle was that his pose silhouette from the side-profile is meant to match the Tyranid Icon. That's why his head and tail are curved inwards like that, you can check by comparing his pose to the icon-bearer's Icon.
Hmm I don't have any genestealer cult models but for sure out of all people you could have guessed that all the familiars (the little genestealers) have a use. The last model you talked about ,Sanctus can ignore armor saves thanks to the familiar and have him attack twice each time he fights. You can of course remove him but he is part of the models strength.
Фамильяры - это явно из фэнтези. Может, питомец (или как звери из фильма "Золотой глобус" назывались?) - более удачное название для гримдарк-фантастики?
I had a problem with the Patriarch tail as well until I realized it made his body shape/silhouette resemble the GSC ouroboros icon and now I really like it
I really love those Range Reviews for the various factions! It's a nice delve into the model ranges, especially when you do it for less prominent factions like GSC or the Daughters of Khaine last time!
What really helps me appreciate the Broodlord models tail is that it is meant to look like the crescent Tyranid logo. I think its kind of clever as a way to help the Broodlord convince the cultists of their authority.
Even if you're not going to start a GSC army anytime soon and really just want the Rockgrinder's dozerblade, the Goliath Truck itself, without the guns and crew, works really well as a piece of Imperium (or, with a little conversion work; Ork) terrain. And you can still add those bits to make it part of a GSC army at any later point. I even used one as a proxy for a Taurox in a small Guard detachment.
What's so unique about the GS range is there characters. Even as high ranked as they are, their elites and HQ still look pretty close to regular people. They aren't 8 feet tall and 4 feet thick thanks to layers of power armor and muscles.
I look forward to your next video where you show us your first purchases of Genestealer Cult and how you plan to expand the army. Tempting, very tempting.
I always loved the look and lore of the Genestealer cults since they where introduced in the old advanced Space Quest game...And I've always wanted to make a Mad Max inspired army...and Genestealer cults or Orks are on the top of my list for taken on that role..
I agree that it might be better for the Broodlord's tail to be moved. But looking at him I just realized that if you look at the model from the side, his curled tail makes him into the Tyranid symbol perfectly. And that's some beautifully subtle symbolism
The tentacle head on the guy in 14:12 would actually make a good amount of sense in the lore since the top left arm clearly belongs to a lictor, who have squid faces.
I keep coming back to this video. Ive always wanted to do a cult force... But even more I want to use these models for the guard. Those bikes would be amazing for roughriders.
Thanks so much for this review! I had no idea how to get decent looking dudes for my veteran squad of imperial guard and just cadians are plain and not veterany enough
oh hey another range review. Kirioth:"i don't like how the space marine bikes are designed", with a suspicious hint of nid in his voice. Me:"yes Inquisitor, this video right here".
You know what. I'm new to Warhammer. But I can already tell how respectable everyone is in terms of criticism. I've not seen any hate yet. Also with the tentacle head ones, I really do see where you're coming from. Its not an opinion I share, but I do understand what you're on about
I actually love the tail going between the legs of the patriarch because it's a really nice detail that makes its silhouette look very similar to the tyranid worm-creature (is it a ripper?) that is their race's faction symbol.
I think the Patriarch tail position is designed to make it look like the cult symbol. If you look at the model side on, the head, curved back, and tail pose, all match the icons across the entire range.
I would never collect a Genestealer Cult army... but i would happily buy their models. Using those bikes to create a company of rough riders. Using those larger vehicles to create some admech variant vehivles... or as kitbashes for my orks... Kitbashing with the aberrants into chaos modles... the options are limitless with these guys
19:21 "Er, Brian, why've you got… what's that weird stuff on your head..?" "Just don't worry about it, just ignore it, it's fine, leave it alone." Ah, the Imperial Guard's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy…
For 50cents i got that rocky sign weapon. Cut it into three bits. Debris, the two right hands, and the sign. The sign is my old nurgle cults plague sword. The two hands now are apart of a chaos berserkers chain sword hand. Honostly best 50 cents i spent.
Considering the lore of the Genestealer Patriarch and what he does when he gets to a planet, ( The Genestealer's Kiss) I think the phallic positioning of the tail is hilarious.
the Brood brothers- I now want two gene stealers in black suits, fedoras, and sunglasses who sing classic M.2 hits and are on a mission from.the 4 armed Emperor
Take the frontplate of the Rockgrinder and put it on your Thousand Sons vehicle as intended, or use it as a shield for a large Dreadnought or a Knight. Then give the rest of the rockgrinder to Barry and his mates to use as a Trukk.
I bought the Goliath, stuck a crane from the ork workshop on it behind where the right heavy gun is. and where the gun was I poorly glued together a Heavy bolter from the heavy weapons team. and run it as a Trojan/Atlas support veacle. on the Atalan Jackals squad anyone that know how hard it would be to turn them into Astra Militarum Rought rider squad? The Locus: i just put a female head from the Necromunda kit inside (failed whit the glue so the head is slightly melted after I got it in arg removed all the geanstealer stuff the wierd foot bit. and Stuck a Imperial sigil from a chimera on the staff on the back and going to run it as as psycher. The Magus I thought I had bought, one also plan to make it a psycher of somekind. Clamvaus have not bought and not sure what to do whit it if I would. Nexos: bought one just put a Scion head on it and called it a day. will roll as a officer (platoon/company commander or one of the Officer of the Navy/artillery ).
You can deal with temptation by being broke! Only way I can deal. Otherwise I'd build atleast 4-5 more 1000 pt 40k lists and atleast 3-4 AoS ones. Issue is, I live in a 42 square meters apartment and already have over 13000 points of miniatures.
@@gileschenery2536 absolutely agree; it's insane that you need to buy three separate failcast blister packs for a total of £46:50 just to field a single minimum sized unit of grotesques. I've been planning to add some Covens to my Drukhari and I think I'll just use either Crypt Horrors or Wraithguard to convert mine
This army never worked for me for some reason. Maybe it's because it looks too uniform for a random jagged rebels who use anything they can find (and they have millions of the same uniforms and exactly the same vehicles) and also because they don't really fit in with the scale of the other factions. I mean, they operate very locally, they don't have a fleet, their numbers are very low in the galactic scale and their tech is somewhere between orcs and imperial guard. They can only match other factions if several circumstances are met, two biggest ones being that it has to be one of the worlds they initially started an uprising so that there will be large numbers of them and they need the element of surprise... It's a cool idea, but this army never fit in with the other factions for me and I've always been dissapointed that it got so much attention when there is no traitor guard, dark mechanicum and the main Xenos races are so underdeveloped...
It's their connection with the tyrannids which makes the GSCs interesting. By themselves they would be a fairly lame army of mutant rebels. The religious aspect is what really got me interested in the Genestealers. I don't think that there is anything more dark or grim in the 40k universe than the fact that people have become so desperate and hopeless that they literally turn to a galaxy consuming biological monstrosity as their spiritual savoir.
Realising that the ridgerunner is just a high-tech hilux technical. I can now die in peace. Also, space DJ must rejoin with your Emperor's Children. They demand it!
Kellermorph's guns look like they've all been modified differently. I'm thinking fallout 4 weapon modding. The one with the big revolver reel also has an extended barrel.
the patriarch is in the same shape as the iconography (banners, dangly trinkets etc) so while yeah it looks a bit odd thematically i love it, alternatively you could always just pick up a Broodlord, they're the same thing

I like the broodlord tail because it plays up the hr gieger alien inspiration
i Love the Ridgerunner and been looking for a reason to get one
I want to adapt it for my Sororitas but im not sure how yet
Превратить Сестёр Битвы в Валькирий на байках - интересная идея 👍
You should go for it! They’re somewhat challenging to paint with lots of small details but very rewarding because of the very unique as you said “mad max” presence. And they are very challenging to play! 10/10, would recommend
My theory is, Tunnels are often dug circular, the saws on the Goliath shield aren’t to dig out a tunnel but so it doesn’t get stuck on a rocky out cropping if the tunnels diameter is a bit too small, idk what the bottom one is for tho because it should have good ground clearance.
I would convert it by casting more grinder wheel blocks to cover the whole bottom and sides or at least the sides and in front of the wheels.
The acolytes one is the same for the metamorph hybrids so you get AAALL OF THE ARMS, plus 5 autopistols, 5 hand flamers, 1 rock cutter, 1 rock grinder, big explosives, 1 big drill
from a modeling and kitbashing standpoin is my favourite range
"Безумный Макс" с мутантами из "Фолаута" и техникой из "Кармагеддона" - вот что такое генокульт.
Genestealer cults are also one of the few looks we get to actual Imperium civilian wear and vehicles.
The whole point of the Patriarch's tail is to turn him into the coiled serpent symbol that they all worship.
As so as I saw the profile view, I knew that was what they were going for
29:00 "What is he even doing?"
His best, Kirioth! He's doing his best! LEAVE HIM ALONE!
SM bikes are copies of the Lawmaster from Judge Dredd,, Im having a hard time NOT stating a cult force
I'm having a hard job not buying a heap to convert into a Veteran Vanguard for my Guard tbh.
Can we get a range review for the eldar? Pointy ears also need some love!
I wonder if the Brood Lord's tail was done intentionally to make us feel uncomfortable looking at it, like the way the xenomorphs in Alien were done.
i think it's because the side view silhuette matches the insignia that a lot of them carry around
The Stealer range marries up really nicely with a lot of the Necromunda kits
What really helps me appreciate the Broodlord models tail is that it is meant to look like the crescent Tyranid logo. I think its kind of clever as a way to help the Broodlord convince the cultists of their authority.
My local GW store manager is making a mad max inspired GSC army.
I think the word youre looking for is "A symetrical" ;) Those dirtbikes are dope--imagine hollowing out the headlights and installing some mini leds.
Not all revolvers had fluting on the cylinder. Have a look at a Colt Walker.
I think selling wigs to Genestealer cults could be a winner it would just be a matter of timing. :)
Yeah, cause if you wait to long the Hive Fleet will come over and eat everything.
The Broodlord's tail being forward facing gives him the silhuette of the genestealers symbol.
Those bikes would be soooo easy to turn into Imperial Guard Rough Rider type guys, And that Ridgerunner would work so well in a so many conversions.
Once you spun the model I changed my mind, I now like the tail, he looks like a crescent moon sat like that, very cool
I love the Genestealer cult bikes, they really give off a Mad Max feel
Bugger I didn't wait for the ridge runner part
Thanks so much for this review! I had no idea how to get decent looking dudes for my veteran squad of imperial guard and just cadians are plain and not veterany enough
oh hey another range review. Kirioth:"i don't like how the space marine bikes are designed", with a suspicious hint of nid in his voice.
Me:"yes Inquisitor, this video right here".
i felt that mad max build vibe. this whole range, even every infantry piece, could be made into an awesome mad max inspired army
I absolutely love the Genestealers. Fluff wise and the model range. So cool!
7:45 "What could I even convert it into?"
All kits, are Ork kits.
I think the Patriarch tail position is designed to make it look like the cult symbol. If you look at the model side on, the head, curved back, and tail pose, all match the icons across the entire range.
I have never noticed the Broodlords tail like that and now I can’t unsee it
I would never collect a Genestealer Cult army... but i would happily buy their models.
Using those bikes to create a company of rough riders.
Using those larger vehicles to create some admech variant vehivles... or as kitbashes for my orks...
Kitbashing with the aberrants into chaos modles...
the options are limitless with these guys
19:21
"Er, Brian, why've you got… what's that weird stuff on your head..?"
"Just don't worry about it, just ignore it, it's fine, leave it alone."
Ah, the Imperial Guard's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy…
For 50cents i got that rocky sign weapon. Cut it into three bits. Debris, the two right hands, and the sign. The sign is my old nurgle cults plague sword. The two hands now are apart of a chaos berserkers chain sword hand. Honostly best 50 cents i spent.
Considering the lore of the Genestealer Patriarch and what he does when he gets to a planet, ( The Genestealer's Kiss) I think the phallic positioning of the tail is hilarious.
🤣🤣🤣 похоже, "поцелуем" это мероприятие не ограничивается... Слаанешиты тоже где-то рядом оргию устроили с инсекто-филией или зоо-филией?!
the Brood brothers- I now want two gene stealers in black suits, fedoras, and sunglasses who sing classic M.2 hits and are on a mission from.the 4 armed Emperor
you do realise the broodlord is supposed to be that way because his silhouette mirrors the tyranid logo
Yeah? That doesn't mean I have to like it.
@@Kirioth true ! ;)
Take the frontplate of the Rockgrinder and put it on your Thousand Sons vehicle as intended, or use it as a shield for a large Dreadnought or a Knight. Then give the rest of the rockgrinder to Barry and his mates to use as a Trukk.
The Locus has a sneaky tail poking out, easily missed but when I saw it I thought 'Zing!'
Also when I took a close look at them for the first time I bought 2000 points straight away
Just swap the upper torsos, heads and arms of the bikers with plastic cadians or catachan equivalents
You can deal with temptation by being broke! Only way I can deal. Otherwise I'd build atleast 4-5 more 1000 pt 40k lists and atleast 3-4 AoS ones. Issue is, I live in a 42 square meters apartment and already have over 13000 points of miniatures.
Well thank you very much Kirioth, now I want a genestealer army..... or at least their vehicles.
Someone: "Genestealer Cult isn't the best range"
Biophagus: NOT SCIENTIFICALLY POSSIBLE!!!
Could grab some Achilles Ridgerunner and convert them for the Elysian Drop Troops ;-)
After watching this review i accidently came out of gw shop with a start collecting box.
I have used the aberrant and genestealer troops for dark mech conversions, will be using the Brute guys at some point. Love the kelemorph
Never really seen the abberants things before, but you read my mind: grotesques. I want to get a box and turn them onto drukhari grotesques
They might be a bit small for Grotesques; they actually aren't much bigger than the standard Neophyte or Acolyte.
@@robertwinslade3104 still better than the single overpriced model GW offers
@@gileschenery2536 absolutely agree; it's insane that you need to buy three separate failcast blister packs for a total of £46:50 just to field a single minimum sized unit of grotesques. I've been planning to add some Covens to my Drukhari and I think I'll just use either Crypt Horrors or Wraithguard to convert mine
@@robertwinslade3104 defiled wraith guard could be great
I don't really like the tail on the broodlord model, but I do appreciate that they sculpted a model based on the tyranid logo/icon.
Only reason I don't mind the tail on the Patriarch is that it makes him into the GSC icon.
I get what you're saying but it's not just GSC. They are a subtype of Tyranids so that means the main fleet will likely be following them eventually.
Lot of potential Nurgle conversions here. Those vehicles...damn they noice!
The Broodlord has its tail between its legs as it supposed to look like the army icon in silhouette.
And guard can’t even get Rough riders but geanstealer cults get bikes
Realising that the ridgerunner is just a high-tech hilux technical. I can now die in peace.
Also, space DJ must rejoin with your Emperor's Children. They demand it!
I really agree with what you where saying about the metamorphs. Particularly which body gets the tentacle head
also you could put ogren or ogre bits on grotesques
Kellermorph's guns look like they've all been modified differently. I'm thinking fallout 4 weapon modding.
The one with the big revolver reel also has an extended barrel.
the patriarch is in the same shape as the iconography (banners, dangly trinkets etc) so while yeah it looks a bit odd thematically i love it, alternatively you could always just pick up a Broodlord, they're the same thing
I really want to paint these some of these guys up for my 40k rpg campaign I'm working on
