it's pretty wild to me that people consider Mortal Kombat as a 'pillar' of fighting games still. i mean, i get it. they outsell when it initially drops, but the community for that game nose dives the month after. to me the pillars are currently Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear. MK didn't even get 800 competitors at EVO Worlds and at that time it wasn't even a year old. compare that to SF6 having 5000+ entrants after a year, T8 with 4500+ after 7 months, and GG: Strive with 2000+ on its THIRD YEAR. unfortunately, all the points that were made about Virtual Fighter are more or less used in current Tekken and Soul Calibur games (and SC is basically dead, too) and the strict framing of VF might turn people off. the issue is that even with just '3 pillars', the esportification of fighting games makes it so that not many people are double/triple dipping in other fighting games, which then in turn makes it hard to find online matches after the initial boom.
Sean there was a train of egm staffers going to game companies. Luke Smith to Bungie. Shane bettenhausen to Sony. James Mielke to Q. Tons of the reviewers, journos go to work at developers and publishers
"Why didn't more people buy Astro Bot?" Because we all know Black Friday and similar sales are about to start so why would we pay full price when a month gets you at least 20% off. RGT has more money than sense sometimes and doesn't live in reality where money isn't abundant.
While I hate the idea of copyrighting gameplay mechanics, I totally agree with Celia when she said that Pocketpair practically brought the lawsuit on themselves by creating a game that so heavily borrows from the design language of Pokemon both visually and mechanically. Part of the reason the game even got so popular is because it's basically "Pokemon with guns" when it boils down to it and Pocketpair knowingly played on that. You can make a monster catcher without using ripoff Pokemon designs and "Pal spheres". Don't get me wrong I'm still glad this game exists if nothing else because maybe Pokemon will actually take some of these concepts and implement some fresh takes on their IP. They were already on the right track with the Legends games but they could do more.
Thats basically it. Masuda loves their design philosophy and they dont want people poking on that. If you wanted Nintendo off your house dont do it willingly. They have like majority of game patents on Japan and them being there is basically inviting Nintendo to sue you.
1:08:55 This is precisely what copyright laws are intended to protect, against the confusion of one product for another. They won't be selecting someone for the jury who is knowledgeable but rather a grandma who has to buy the product and whether she could mistakenly choose the wrong product.
I worked for Nintendo support through the 3ds and wii u. Even the 3ds being different from the ds there was a fair amount people struggling to understand
…ok I’m just gonna say it, wtf is up with Shawn’s attitude. I’ll admit I haven’t been following the gaming media as of late so I don’t know which developer he’s referring to but it was obvious that there was a strong chance that the switch successor was gonna have backward compatibly due to them confirming that NSO was gonna to use for future hardwares. The way Shawn’s acting toward Nintendo fanboys is similar to how I acted toward Playstation fanboys back during the day. He makes good points (though all he’s doing is stating the obvious) but I feel he’s taking his frustrating of Nintendo fanboys during these podcasts and it’s really beginning to push me away a bit. No I’m not gonna be one of those cringe viewer who gonna protest or whatever. Just stating my opinion and leaving at that.
@rufflemutt6006 MVG was the person in question. The mere fact RGT thinks his friend isn't allowed to be criticized on opinion points made surrounding backwards compatibility just because most haven't touched a line of code is flat out wrong. This creates a loop hole that wasn't there for David Jaffe during the height of Metroid Dread which RGT throw under without no care...
I must have missed the reason but why have the Saturday streams recently been recorded? Is this just how it is now or is this temporary? Either way I enjoy listening ✌️
It seemed to be hard to get everyone together live on Saturdays to record, so they switched to prerecording whenever they can have enough people to record an episode during the week and release it on Saturdays.
I would be surprised to see what they'll do with Virtua Fighter; be it a new entry, reboot, remake, collection, etc. Sony shutting down those studios isn't a surprise considering more than likely they had a contractual agreement to meet a certain quota and they likely missed that quota by a lot; enough to be significantly a disappointment.

As a 51 year old gamer who has actually played and completed most of the Mario & Luigi games, and is over 10hrs into Brothership, I can honestly say IGN’s review and peoples opinions that actually have not played the game, are pretty embarrassing. I am also perplexed by the complaints of the performance, it ain’t perfect, but it’s an exceedingly minor nitpick. It’s for sure a solid 8, maybe a 9 for me, see by the end. Also please get rid of RGT on here, would improve the podcast tenfold.
@@gimphandjeff Even then, his review seems to be a big outlier. IDK what he really expected out of it to disappoint him so much. The fact that brothership seems to be so close to other M&L games after its studio shut down is pretty impressive alone.
Jon’s comments on the PS5 Pro are a perfect example of content creators fearing their audience. He starts by immediately saying it’s the easiest console ever to not recommend. He tells the silly anti PS5 Pro crowd what they want to hear. Then he proceeds to spend 5 minutes talking about how much better some games run on it, and how good it looks on his OLED, etc. You don’t have to validate the whiny kids on the internet Jon. The online reactions to the Pro have been extremely irrational. No one ever reacts like this when an iPhone Pro is announced. An upgraded version of a product is extremely common. It’s only in video games consoles that people lose their minds about them. This reaction is the product of several groups all synchronizing their agendas to push against it. PS5 owners who can’t afford the Pro and they don’t like the idea of others having a better version of that console. Xbox fanboys who are mad the Xbox doesn’t have an upgrade option and now Sony has a clear spec advantage. Then you have PC fanboys who really don’t like it when consoles are discussed as being in the same league as their $1,500 PC. When that many groups have a similar desire to knock something down, this is how you get the PS5 Pro reactions.
Hasn't there been confirmed 4k data in all of Nintendo's releases since 2023? I'm convinced all GameCube, Wii, and 3DS remasters get released on OG Switch.
@th00perman_ Thanks for correcting my memory. It has been many years since I saw it so I forgot. Just found out Tony Todd passed away this week so weird that this came to mind this weekend.
The way he brung up and talked about the PS5, you can tell everyone on this week isn't a Playstation fan. The tech in the system alone is worth the upgrade. It literally will only gain more praise overtime as every new game that releases starts to take advantage of the new options. It only feels like a wait and buy later option now because no games were released beside it. This time next year this conversation will be different for sure.
I was in the playtest, the planet was pretty dead; like DEAD; you would barely see 1-3 people on; outside of the Main Hub where there was always at least 15-25 people chilling. the only fun part about this test was actually using the tail to glide around; but even that gets boring after a few minutes. =/ still I hope they make this game a reality; I'd play it if I can get a better tutorial on wtf I'm actually supposed to be doing.

it's pretty wild to me that people consider Mortal Kombat as a 'pillar' of fighting games still. i mean, i get it. they outsell when it initially drops, but the community for that game nose dives the month after. to me the pillars are currently Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear.
I’m glad Virtua Fighter got discussed
Is the bottom left guy going to say anything ?
He doesn't need to. He's the best. He's real. He's the Evan! (and Evan rhymes with heaven)
When he does his takes are usually on point
He speaks when he has something interesting to say

Im getting a day 1 psyical disk for palworld. Worth it
"Why didn't more people buy Astro Bot?"
Because we all know Black Friday and similar sales are about to start so why would we pay full price when a month gets you at least 20% off. RGT has more money than sense sometimes and doesn't live in reality where money isn't abundant.
Evan, have you ever played the TCG Flesh and Blood?

Glad to see others in the comments being totally normal and not weird at all, as usual
1:08:55 This is precisely what copyright laws are intended to protect, against the confusion of one product for another. They won't be selecting someone for the jury who is knowledgeable but rather a grandma who has to buy the product and whether she could mistakenly choose the wrong product.
It's wild to see the bot comments just seconds after the video is uploaded
I think Palworld looks very shitty (not as shitty as the thing they're "copying" but still), but I still think it has a right to exist.
Jack Black voices Big The Cat in Sonic 3. He's so cool.
RGT feminist was not something I thought I would see in this lifetime.
Hahaha if you think he’s a feminist, you’ve got a lot more learning to do 🤣
He's not really one. He's fairly sarcastic when he says it.
He’s a progressive human being. Where have you been?
I worked for Nintendo support through the 3ds and wii u. Even the 3ds being different from the ds there was a fair amount people struggling to understand
Palworld was 30 dollars. Cut the sales numbers in half if you really wanna compare it to something that costs more.
His boyfriend broke up with him.
Let's goooo ❤❤
I must have missed the reason but why have the Saturday streams recently been recorded? Is this just how it is now or is this temporary? Either way I enjoy listening ✌️
It seemed to be hard to get everyone together live on Saturdays to record, so they switched to prerecording whenever they can have enough people to record an episode during the week and release it on Saturdays.
@frcrydev2k51 oh okay thank you!
I would be surprised to see what they'll do with Virtua Fighter; be it a new entry, reboot, remake, collection, etc.
Sony shutting down those studios isn't a surprise considering more than likely they had a contractual agreement to meet a certain quota and they likely missed that quota by a lot; enough to be significantly a disappointment.
lol john sweating bullets talking about dragon age. Except it's not a small blip, literally infested games since 2015 and in 4 years people will say "wtf were we thinking"
You people obsessed over Dragon Age are so weird. You see things that don’t exist, imagine things that didn’t happen. Just get outside and find new things to entertain yourself. This is not healthy.
@@DeesBees85 you literally have peak fantasy and gameplay in metaphor released side by side with dragon age and can't differentiate what's wrong lol. Have fun with the slop
This podcast is dead no MVG or OJ. This podcast hasn’t been going down hill for months.
Because he went pre recorded and most of the better cast is not there.
Bro. The IGN reviewer is a fan of the series and played the game.
@@gimphandjeff Even then, his review seems to be a big outlier. IDK what he really expected out of it to disappoint him so much. The fact that brothership seems to be so close to other M&L games after its studio shut down is pretty impressive alone.
@@goldmemberpbdo you not know how opinions work? Nintendo fans are just afraid of any criticism
@@gimphandjeff I am aware, his review didn’t sound like it though, did it.
Have you played it?………….Bro
Do you think Nintendo would offer something that would allow you to have your physical games transferred over to digital so they will move with you?
Hasn't there been confirmed 4k data in all of Nintendo's releases since 2023? I'm convinced all GameCube, Wii, and 3DS remasters get released on OG Switch.
@@griffmendez it would run horribly people already tried
The things is that Palworld isn't a better game. There's no story. There's not enough creatures.

Jack Black was in Psychonauts 2.
If Shawn says "Queefer Suthetland" three times then he will appear. Same rules as Beetlejuice and Candyman.
Candyman is 5 times, but true.
@th00perman_ Thanks for correcting my memory. It has been many years since I saw it so I forgot. Just found out Tony Todd passed away this week so weird that this came to mind this weekend.
Celia always with the disclaimers
Got to love the fact of them talking about things that happen 1 week ago like it was today or yesterday.....
Everybody's doing that because there's nothing else to talk about.
Rather just stay with Nintendo and PCMR
I hope Jack Black is Link in the Zelda movie so I can see RGT lose his mind😂
No one would go see that 😂
He would be the perfect Link! Seth Rogan, James Franco and maybe Michael Cera also need some roles in that movie 😂
I'm not sure what is the point of Jose in this cast anymore? What does she bring to it other than the odd Nintendo take?
