I'm a native Puertorican, born in Bronx, NY, from Puertorican parents and raised in San Germán, Puerto Rico. Since I had use of reason I understood the importance of statehood in lieu of the current state of Limbo. It's been my dream and my hope that we become a full fledged state in my lifetime. The benefits to the USA are enormous, and to my beloved island, unmeasurable. We would get full protection, full Social Security Benefits, participate in the heatlh insurance systems of the USA, and yes, pay taxes, but insular taxes are paid now anyway. Healthcare, quality of life and safety would improve. I could go on, but there's no need.

In english and most important in spanish
Right now we have in PUERTO RICO various political parties connecting one with other's to oppose voting in this up coming plesbecite. Or leaving the ballots in blank.
Obvious purpose is to give a mayority silent non approvals of the plebiscite. And send the wrong message to congress.
    HELP

Statehood for Puerto Rico cannot continue to be handled like a little ball that bounces every 4 years that Puerto Ricans treated as second-class citizens have to fight to catch. For many it is convenient to maintain the “status quo” to have an issue on which to run their candidacies making promises of an unattainable statehood. The bizarre thing about the materialization of statehood for Puerto Rico is how dysfunctional the efforts are. On the one hand, Jennifer Gonzalez declares herself pro-statehood but absurdly gives her endorsement to Trump who openly did not include statehood for Puerto Rico in his formula. On the other hand, the Democratic Party led by Kamala Harris included statehood for Puerto Rico in its formula, but it is a mute effort because the equivalent party on the island, the Popular Democratic Party of Puerto Rico, has no interest in Puerto Rico being state. With this dysfunction the only thing that is guaranteed is that the status quo is eternal. Statehood for Puerto Rico is not a gift that we have to achieve; Statehood for Puerto Rico is a right, worthily deserved and earned with the blood of our soldiers who have been buried facing the flag of the United States with fifty stars and one space quo. They have fought for the democracy that all fifty states enjoy, but the fifty states, Congress, our presidents and leaders have left us behind, violating a fundamental principle of the United States military that declares that no soldier can be left behind. PUERTO RICO HAS BEEN LEFT BEHIND. It is a shame that we see how Puerto Ricans start in Congress in a lucrative professional career, spend years in the same position, retire with robust pensions, leaving Puerto Rico in the same status quo in which they found it when decades ago they started in Congress the political career. And they still have the audacity to crush another referendum on us to ask Puerto Ricans again if we want statehood. The very question offends.

A few words for the wise. Let history be your witness. Look at Hawaii, natives can't afford to buy a house, because they have no wealth, it is very, very expensive to live in Hawaii, Pr will find itself in the very same shoes if opt for statehood. Let's talk independence, Independence is not socialism or communism, is US a socialist or communist country? It's an oligarchy, where the few rules. Is that what you want for PR? Will the "benefits" of become a state outweigh, loosing the island to interventionists and land grabbers? PR will become another Hawaii, that my friend is already written in the history books. Make your choice PR, is either one or the other, or maybe stay in the limbo as you currently are? PR is up for grabs, look at the map of PR and you will see that most of the west of the island is already taken, you will see the land gone and converted into Golf clubs, the public beaches are no longer public, and the government are letting this happen. This my friend is what awaits PR. Look at Mexico, China, Santo Domingo, these countries are developing on their own, as sovereign and autonomous countries, even Cuba is progressing, slowly but surely. They don't need any handouts, even though PR pays a lot more than what they get in return. WAKE UP BORICUAS! DEFIENDE LO TUYO! SAL DE LAS GARRAS Y DE ESE YUGO QUE TE ESTA MATANDO! Y QUE SE LARGEN ELLOS!

The population of PR is 98% Puerto Rican, they will never be a minority in their own land like what has happened to the Hawaiians so the comparison doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. Just a flimsy scare tactic. And if supporters of independence want to say that Puerto Rico should look toward Cuba and China as examples of progress then wow that is really going to push even more voters to choose statehood. No thank you. Mexico and Dominican Republic are great countries but average household income in both is already well below income in Puerto Rico. Voters in PR want to move income up to be more like that in the states, not down to be more like the other countries in Latin America. The best choice is clear, statehood for Puerto Rico.
