    I had the same experience treating my 120gal with FluxRX. Turned Down light and did two treatments in a row with 2 days in between put carbon and skimmer on. No decline in coral health it did help with the algae but not eradicate it. Right now holding 0 numbers with Rowa Phos and increasing algae eaters

    are you using a roller mat filter?? i find that they are too good at cleaning particulates out of the water and i could never get my nitrates up and everything starved but algae thrived every time i had die off. hope you figure things out.

    I find that over dosing reef flux is the way to go. I’m currently going on my second treatment of reflux since my algae came back

  • @HerbysReef
    @HerbysReef 5 лет назад

    It took the reef flux almost two months to get rid of all my algae, but it did eventually work. I just re-dosed the replacement water when I did a water change, and I ran the skimmer after two days.

    I think you're on the right track with the old tank syndrome idea. Check this plan out... stop the water flowing to the basement to partition it into 2 independent systems. Then in the basement system, tear down and scrub everything, toss any sand, and do a 100% water change. At this point the basement system is clean. Move your livestock down there and then do the exact same thing to the 220. Then you can move everything back and combine the systems again. You're going to need a stay-cation for that one!! lol

    • @MileHighReefers
      @MileHighReefers  5 лет назад +1

      mnelson10000 it would likely work and it’s a cool idea but I can’t bear the thought of tearing my reef apart. It’s been many years of hard work to get here. Thanks for the suggestion. It might end up going this way eventually.

    Hi Scott! Many great videos and I always watch them! I’ve had GHA that was being a pain in my nano and even used human fluconazole... The results were amazing! After that I can’t accept the possibility of people giving up tanks because of GHA... In my case GHA results came after 10 days...

    • @MileHighReefers
      @MileHighReefers  5 лет назад +1

      I saw both sets of results. I do think it works but it isn’t perfect. Thanks for sharing

    I used Flux-RX and left the skimmer off for 3days and it got rid of my GHA which was a strong dark green colour so you might want to give that a try in the big tank.

    Wow. Never heard of the stuff untill just now. I'm intrigued. I'm struggling with algae right now, low Phosphates and Nitrates, still got algae. Got a huge blue leg hermit clean up crew and still no luck. I'll give this a shot. One major question though. Will it hurt Macro Aglae?

      @@Suicidebummer88 I did yes. It worked very well actually. I had to dose it a second day in a row or maybe it was the third day but regardless I dosed twice. Followed the instructions and it said to dose again if you didn't notice it start to die off in 24 or 48 hours. Can't remember exactly what the instructions on the bottle said but it did work. Two weeks later hair algae was all white and dead. Withered away to nothing. No harm to corals, fish or inverts.

    My understanding is it doesn’t really ever dissolve into water and work.. It’s ends up more like settling over the surfaces where it then slowly dissolved. This is evident in how some corals like zoas and gap get very irritated and close up immediately and stay that way for few hours even a day or two.
    If you look at the tanks where this has worked for regular gha the tanks have more open rock and less coral to shadow it. Imop this is why in your larger tank it didn’t work as the gha was more up under everything where in the other tank it was growing on top.
    I’ve seen similar results as for working and not working on gha with exact same scenarios.. as for the bryopsis I think that gets taken out when it finally dissolved in the water.. I think the gha gets more of a for lack of better term.. salt burn effect where the medication lands on it and burns it like creep falling into a coral does..

    Hey scott I had a rough issue w BHA for the longest time in my 150 display and i found an awesome product -brighwell RAZOR which just lifted all the GHA off of the rocks and allowed me to suck it up w a W/C and then never showed up again. As for the birdnest issue ive seen that in my frag tank in the past and could only chalk it up to parasitic copepods that didnt have a natural predator. After a month or two of added a six line and a mandarin goby the problem seems to have subsided. Best of luck!

    • @MileHighReefers
      @MileHighReefers  5 лет назад +1

      Philip C thanks for the feedback. I’ll look into brightwell Razor. Sounds cool. At this point I expect to lose 90 percent of the birds nest. All I need is a little piece to regrow a colony. This has happened with this coral before.

    Glad you had good results on your nano. Like you with your big tank I had no die of gha on my 30 gal. My LFS says I might have turf algae. Is the a difference? Also tried chemiclean for cyano which I got after 3 biweekly doses of Vibrant. I still have the f**king cyano. Can anyone help. My phosphates are. 06 and nitrates are 5. I know the nutrients are being absorbed by the algae

    Amazing video once again... I'm kind going through the same problem as you I noticed that my sand bed was getting some brown algae grow all the time? .... well long story short my RO-DI was reading at about of TDS 001.0 I'm running two DI cartridges not sure what happen but the water was bypassing both just a bit where I was getting higher TDS. Once I fixed that problem and got TDS down to 0 brown algae magically disappeared coral never looks so good.
