The carrying of the coffin part is like carrying your flag or the Christian cross to battle, basically for troop morale. Also, since the army is made of both Danes and Christians their beliefs/faiths of their Gods or God are always clashing hence why the priest is hating on Uhtred a Dane. i just wanted to give my thoughts on that
Alfred is the man. It's rare too see really competent kings portrayed in movies/shows and here we have Alfred on one side and Guthred on the other and it just makes the difference between them pop out so much
and what i love about this is that yes Alfred is a great king and a strong leader the show does very much explore the more human flawed sides to him as well. Uhtred and Alfred Mirror each other perfectly and how they both are fighting somewhat of an identity crisis themselves. for Uhtred it is if he is a Saxon or a Dane for Alfred it is if he is a good man or a good king or is it impossible to be both because Alfred himself does things that can be seen as morally abhorrent. this show does morally grey far better than game of thrones could ever wish to.
it's amazing, the chemistry that the cast has. they're a family. at some point you should look into some behind the scenes footage. its really fun to see their relationships out of character
I gotta say, I absolutely adore these last kingdom reactions! I watched this show with my dad and watching these reactions make me a little less homesick ❤️

can't wait for you guys to meet Finan. guy is easily one of the best characters in the show. also you guys say that Uhtred is unpredictable i'd say when it comes to Uhtred as a character he's effectively what you'd get if you where to combine Jon Snow and Daemon Targaryen into one character. where he's Honorable and true to his word but at the same time he's so utterly ruthless in both how he tells everyone the hard truth but also in how he deals with his enemies. this is why Uhtred is such a likeable character in despite of what mistakes he makes and how in the wrong he can sometimes be you just can't dislike this guy because of how well realised the writers have made him both the show runners and the author of the books. (despite the differences between both versions of Uhtred) he's a character with Common sense and is SHOWN to us how smart and skilled he is unlike alot of shows like game of throne where we are TOLD that some characters are smart like Tyrion or Tywin but we are rarely shown it and they also make breathtakingly stupid decisions just to further the plot. Uhtred NEVER has these moments. he is always reacting to the plot never making stupid decisions to drive it forward.
The big man Clapa with his white mustache is played by Magnus Samuelsson. He is a former World’s Strongest Man from 1998. Alexander Dreymon, Uhtred, has a martial arts background and is a purple belt in BJJ. Really enjoy watching along with your reactions. It’s fun to see you enjoying a show that I truly love.

Its cool that you guys are doing this and House of the Dragon at the same time, there is an actor introduced this season that also is in HOTD at some point. Im not caught up on HOTD yet so not sure if they have been introduced yet.
oh shoot I just realized who he'll be playing. Yes the energy he is giving off in these photos we have so far will be quite an adjustment from our sweet baby monk!
Funny enough, the Viking who was looking for the heads and got his head chopped off was in both the Vikings TV show and in The Last Kingdom. So the guy must love playing Vikings. ⚔️
The suspicious circumstances of Guthred's kingship isn't anything about deception. It's about the medeival Roman Catholic church trying to wield power through puppet rulers. The abbot didn't recognize Guthred last episode because he had never met him.The abbot supposedly had a dream telling him Guthred would be king, but the reality is that the church chose Guthred brcause he was a Dane with noble blood, was somewhat gullible by reputation, and was a Christian. The church hoped to exert influence over him, which becomes obvious in this episode. Churchmen of the time absolutely carried around supposed relics (body parts) of saints, especially into battle.
This Christian church is not the Roman Catholic Church which was born in 1054 when the christendom split into two. Of course some of the teachings and practices (the relics you mentioned) are the same, as well as the church wanting wordly power. But the church in the 8th and 9th century was actually more advanced than the medieval church that emerged in the form of Roman Catholic Church.

Fun fact, the guy sitting with Uhtred at 21:50 mins, Earl Ulf I believe, also plays Odin in Vikings season 4 when Odin visits the sons of Ragnar. Best depiction of Odin I’ve ever seen. Wish we seen more of him in The Last Kingdom, also wish he was seen as Odin in Vikings more than just the one time. His name is André Eriksen and he’s a great actor.

Definitely two of my favorite *actors* on the show judging by the behind the scenes videos. I always wait semi-patiently for this episode for that reason... and for the next episode because it might be my favorite of the show. Can't wait for everything to come from here on out.
@@Liverpoolismydream it’s a tough one for me… I would like to love it so much but… it’s disappointing. I feel the same for Rings… am I getting old and grumpy ?
It's crazy how so much content is packed into some of these episodes. I feel sorry for your editor specifically for episode 4. It's a damn roller coaster.
25:30 that actor the old dude that talks like a snake whispering evil into a kings ear.... is ALSO in the same exact role in Gladiator, the one that tells Commodus to kill Maximus.
next episode is top 10 whole series....so glad you guys understand Alfred though, and respect him even when he is a self righteous prick....Alfred is a king, everyone else is short sighted
Nobody alive today was around when the real Alfred ruled of course, but I just get a hunch this is how the real one behaved. I believe he’s the only English king to have “the Great” after his name. Calculated, decisive and strong armed when needed. Truly the man.
@@fwhitey7686 the guy who writes these books is Bernard Cornwell, he does a good job incorporating actual history and trying to integrate them with actual personalities, that's what he is really good at, and this series of books is not even in his top three, that's how good his story telling is....the 'Warlord Chronicles' is a masterpiece of Arthurian legend that he wrote in the 90's, should be a series, but the books will do
I think Guthred's in the story to show Uhtred a comparisson between a great and a terrible king. He might not like Alfred, but he realizes that he deserves his respect for being an great and decisive king, very different from Guthred, who's a piece of weasel shit.
Uhtred and Alfred's relationship is more along the lines of that of an estranged bromance. where they on a surface level can't stand each other but both deep down respect and care for each other and both understand that without the other they wouldn't be where they are today. "to Uhtred of bebbanburg a man i have never understood but without whom i would not Die a king".
Uthred is my dude. Please watch the next episode soon. It’s a great one. I hope Uthred is going up Steven’s list of favorite characters. Probably not up there with Jon Snow and Ragnar Lothbrok but give it some time….he’ll get there.
honestly i'd say that Uhtred is SUPERIOR than both of them in every way because Uhtred in both the books and the show is a fully realised protagonist and is far better consistently written character all around and Alexander was an excellent choice for the role even if he doesn't match Uhtred's book description at all. Jon Snow peaked at Season 4 and then collapsed as a character and was just terrible from there on out as he became Ned stark 2.0 and a typical generic fantasy MC and the fact that the entire show of Vikings collapsed once Ragnar died showed just how flawed the foundation of said show was because frankly he was one of the few interesting characters.
@@michaelkean5969 Could not agree more. The allure of TLK is that the protagonist and people in his squad are loyal, honorable and brave. Characteristics that are missing in other shows. They have managed to great good people who are flawed and "real" without loosing their moral center. There is character growth and not character assassination. How refreshing it is to have genuine affection and moments of levity and joy in a show? And yet there is enough tragedy, political intrigue and turmoil to keep the plot moving forward. So tired of shows where the only plot lines are betrayal and hunger for power.
@@KristiinaBerg exactly this show does what game of thrones and vikings utterly failed to do. they gave us a well wrtten and well thought out show from start to finish. it's funny that if you took Uhtred and had him replace Jon Snow in Game of thrones i bet the show would have been over in like 5 episodes with Cersei and co all dead and the white walkers all gone. Jon should have become someone like Uhtred where he's got Stark attributes (Uhtred's honor and his unmatched integrity) and Targaryen traits (Uhtred is very much egotistical arrogant and ruthelss) and season 4 was the closest Jon ever came to being that. a show where it's pros far overshadow the cons is a masterpiece in my book. literally the only problems with the last kingdom i have is that the Mercian succession crisis in season 4 and Sigtrygger's death in season 5 where avoidable as all hell and THAT IS IT. 2 plot elements that didn't have that major of an impact to Uhtred's story and both those things where executed so well from a performance standpoint even if writing wise was a tad weak. the show started perfectly and ended perfectly.
@@michaelkean5969It might be that what "saved" the integrity of TLK was its minuscule budget compared to Game of Thrones. They could not rely on special effects they had to rely on telling a story. (But then again it might have stg to do with the original material by Bernard Cornwell.) SPOILERS FOR FOUR AND FIVE The Mercian succession story in season 4 was a disappointment to me, because it did not have logic to it. When it comes to the death in season 5, I'm not over it yet. But Alex and Eystein acted the hell out of it. My biggest complaint about 5 was the way Stiorra developed from a funny and feisty teenager to a whiny b.....h who disrespected her father..
@Nikki and Steven: your reaction of shocked silence when Uthred gets betrayed and sold as a slave... So in sync with that scene, made it even more powerfull. 👍
Both family members and co-workers showed no interest in this show. I, on the other hand, could not wait to see the next episode. I am reliving this show once more through you guys. I love it. This show is one of my favorite of all time. The actor that plays Ultred was the perfect match for the role.
i 100% agree about Alexander Dreymond as Uhtred granted he doesn't match the Description of Uhtred in the books at all (considering that Uhtred is 6ft 7 and built like a tank) but he 100% makes up for it with his performance.
The guy after Uthred was o Game of Thrones as Harry Stanton. Leader of the army Cerci bought. I never understood why that priest claimed to have dreamed of a Dane. Except to try and control him.
The relics of saints, like the teeth of St. Cuthbert, or various body parts of holy men, are totally bizarre to us today. But it seems like most monasteries or important churches held something like that at one time. Though I expect in most cases the items were not at all what they were reported to be.
One of the best series ever to be made! Thank you for your reactions to this! 🤗 Always feels good to see swedish actors in this type of series. Both clappa and Sigfried 🇸🇪
You should react to Acts of Vengenace and Security. Both really good movies starring Antonio Banderas. Acts of Vengenace is similar to Nobody or John Wick and Security is like Paul Blart Mall Cop meets John Wick. Both really good movies. Another movie is Polar starring Mads Mikkelsen. Amazing movie similar to John Wick also but a bit more stylized.
He is Guthred there is nothing sketchy about that, the true deceit comes from the abbot who invented a prophecy and made a king from nothing. By being a kingmaker and being at the side of said king he obtains power as well. He uses people's superstition and his position as Abbot to accomplish his goals. It is clear that he never had a vision since he mistook Uthred for Guthred since he was at the center head of the column. He made it all up. As for Guthred himself in the slave market he just answered to his own name he didn't knew they will make him a king.
Completely unrelated to the video, but I wonder how excited Nikki and Steven are to hear the news that Jon Snow is getting his own sequel to GoT. Cuz I am dddyyyiiiinnnn for it!
Hey just wanted to let you guys know if you didn’t already, Mike Flanagans next series “Midnight Club” has dropped on Netflix, just finished ep 3 and it’s another doozy. Yous should definitely check it out!!
I'm so enjoying this journey through The Last Kingdom with you! (I read all the books first, which is something you might consider doing for more details and a larger sense of the intervals between the actions and wars. Whenever I got a new book, the first thing I would do was turn to the last pages to see if Uhtred was still alive. That's how masterful the stories woven into and through this book will be. Uhtred will live, but it's a near thing.) FYI: It was Uhtred who killed the warrior who raped Hild, and eventually, it is Uhtred who brings his special loving magic to Hild's life, releasing her bitterness against all men to simply, eventually, choosing the course of the warrior nun. So Uhtred's romantic history at this point in the story is BRIDA, MILDRETH, THE MAGIC QUEEN, HILD, but by this time, Hild had already chosen her road, which included Uhtred, but not romantically. Because he is so charismatic, and has such a generous heart, Uhtred will always be loved!
i started this show and now i'm so into it. im on season 4 episode 6 now. such an amazing show, but damn is he freaking handsome and with that long hair. i like young ragnar too so much. Uthred deserves so much, he can let lose all he wants, everything gets taken from him and he's so strong mentally and physically. i like Erik though, you'll see why.
You're not ready for next episode, Uhtred is not ready for next episode, we're not ready for the next episode, I'm not ready for the next episode, the world is not ready for next episode. It's the episode that really sold me on the emotional depths this show could take, Uhtred's complexity as a human and Alexander Dreymon's abilities as an actor. Can't wait for episode 3's reaction! Also let's not forget that on s1 Aethelflaed (Alfred's daughter) was just born, and on this season, she's a grown teenager. It's been years, so Uhtred is pretty loyal to women in his life. At least he's been very faithful to grieving after Iseult (and his marriage to Mildrith) before moving on with Gisela lol.
I hope you guys cover the new Mike Flanagan horror TV series: The Midnight Club!!! It's now a Guinness World Record holder for the most jumpscares in 1 episode!!! Can't wait to see your reactions! 💙

It's crazy how so much content is packed into some of these episodes. I feel sorry for your editor specifically for episode 4. It's a damn roller coaster.
There are so many handsome men in this series 🤭
25:30 that actor the old dude that talks like a snake whispering evil into a kings ear.... is ALSO in the same exact role in Gladiator, the one that tells Commodus to kill Maximus.
Oh mannnn, my favorite 2 episodes in pretty much the entire series are up next. All the seasons are immaculate. But the next 2 eps hit different
next episode is top 10 whole series....so glad you guys understand Alfred though, and respect him even when he is a self righteous prick....Alfred is a king, everyone else is short sighted
Nobody alive today was around when the real Alfred ruled of course, but I just get a hunch this is how the real one behaved. I believe he’s the only English king to have “the Great” after his name. Calculated, decisive and strong armed when needed. Truly the man.
@@fwhitey7686 the guy who writes these books is Bernard Cornwell, he does a good job incorporating actual history and trying to integrate them with actual personalities, that's what he is really good at, and this series of books is not even in his top three, that's how good his story telling is....the 'Warlord Chronicles' is a masterpiece of Arthurian legend that he wrote in the 90's, should be a series, but the books will do
Thanks for enjoying this show. Make me happy 😌 ❤
Don't know if anyone else mentioned it but the actor who plays Tekil also played Harry Strickland in GoT.
Just a little comment that there are some time jumps here and there, so some (not all) of Uhtred’s love interests aren’t immediate/one after another…
There are no bad episodes in this series.
Uthred is my dude. Please watch the next episode soon. It’s a great one. I hope Uthred is going up Steven’s list of favorite characters. Probably not up there with Jon Snow and Ragnar Lothbrok but give it some time….he’ll get there.
Well said. Maybe in the end, he will supersede them.
honestly i'd say that Uhtred is SUPERIOR than both of them in every way because Uhtred in both the books and the show is a fully realised protagonist and is far better consistently written character all around and Alexander was an excellent choice for the role even if he doesn't match Uhtred's book description at all.
(But then again it might have stg to do with the original material by Bernard Cornwell.)
SPOILERS FOR FOUR AND FIVE
The Mercian succession story in season 4 was a disappointment to me, because it did not have logic to it.
Ah so excited for the next. One of the most well done episodes of TV I’ve seen!
I really need you guys to binge watch this and put out more than one episode a week. Like for real. Lol
I just love both this show and your reaction to it ❤
The Boys are coming together!
@@michaelkean5969 I thought uhtred was like 6ft 2.... damn didn't know he was supposed to be almost a whole foot taller than 5ft 9 dremond.
That outro with Nikki’s potty mouth is hilarious.😂😂😂😂😂
this show is amazing and your reactions make it so fun to rewatch. so many awesome characters
Clapa, is played by Magnus Samuelsson 1998 "worlds strongest man" winner and former arm wrestling champ
Just wondering if you guys have ever seen The Sopranos? If not, it’s on HBO Max and definitely worth the watch.
I love y'all's commentary. I laugh so much.
I will say I'm waiting for Nikki to have another "ball tea" moment.
Always feels good to see swedish actors in this type of series. Both clappa and Sigfried 🇸🇪
And also Christian Hillborg as Erik 🇸🇪
I would also ask that you react to some of
The behind the scenes for this show on YT
Just the cast having fun it’s hilarious
You should react to Acts of Vengenace and Security. Both really good movies starring Antonio Banderas. Acts of Vengenace is similar to Nobody or John Wick and Security is like Paul Blart Mall Cop meets John Wick. Both really good movies. Another movie is Polar starring Mads Mikkelsen. Amazing movie similar to John Wick also but a bit more stylized.
I know this is very late but the priest's name isn't Abbot, it is a title like Bishop and his name is actually Eadred.
Next episode
Finan, best character IMO
He is Guthred there is nothing sketchy about that, the true deceit comes from the abbot who invented a prophecy and made a king from nothing. By being a kingmaker and being at the side of said king he obtains power as well. He uses people's superstition and his position as Abbot to accomplish his goals. It is clear that he never had a vision since he mistook Uthred for Guthred since he was at the center head of the column. He made it all up. As for Guthred himself in the slave market he just answered to his own name he didn't knew they will make him a king.
SIHTRIC !!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Completely unrelated to the video, but I wonder how excited Nikki and Steven are to hear the news that Jon Snow is getting his own sequel to GoT. Cuz I am dddyyyiiiinnnn for it!
Ugh. This next episode is painful, but so so good.
Please add the word SPOILER before your comment.
Great reaction guys hahaha " and he takes everyone's sister" 😂😂😂😂
i started this show and now i'm so into it. im on season 4 episode 6 now. such an amazing show, but damn is he freaking handsome and with that long hair. i like young ragnar too so much. Uthred deserves so much, he can let lose all he wants, everything gets taken from him and he's so strong mentally and physically. i like Erik though, you'll see why.
Love these reactions!!! Haven’t clicked so fast in a while!!
this is one of the best shows out. love the story. I cant wait for the movie to come out so you guys can react to it also.
No she wasn't. She was 7 or 8.
It was Edward that was the baby that almost died. Aethelflaed is oldest.
The big dude at 14 minute mark is Magnus Samuelsson. Won the worlds strongest man competition thingy several times. Big dude :D
The actor playing Clapa was worlds strongest man in 2003 i belive.
you guys are in for a ride!!
Oooo how long until the next episode?
Hild is an absolute queen and such a badass!!!
Hild is our own Warrior Nun...
I hope you guys cover the new Mike Flanagan horror TV series: The Midnight Club!!! It's now a Guinness World Record holder for the most jumpscares in 1 episode!!! Can't wait to see your reactions! 💙
Fun fact . Klappa is former world strongest man Magnus Samuelson.
i love sihtric and hild with all my heart
Hild ❤❤ Everyone needs a Battle Nun
I always wondered if gisela was pegan of christian!
I believe that this was an infinitely better series than Vikings. It had better acting and scripts
DAMN you are killing me. I have reacted to TLK am at the last episodes, and this is the funniest reaction ever!!!
Lolll you were out to get Sithric 😂
You ain't ready for the next episode 😭
I already watched on Patreon but I’ll watch it again here on RUclips lol
I’m back again 😂 I love TLK and your reactions
Christian Hillborg who plays Erik is not a model, just another handsome Swedish actor 😉
Thing about Scandinavians at this time Vikings in particular were extremely vain and took great care in their appearance.
Cumberland is Cumbria now, its where I live. Its still as green and unpopulated now lol. Great place to live and visit
Even when he's getting captured, Uhtred gives good advice to the man who betrayed him: "You should kill me lord!"
ONE STEP CLOSER TO EP 3!!!! LFGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!
