I heard the words to this song in my head tonight and looked for it here in RUclips. So glad I found this one, what a blessing. Takes me back to the great church days singing hymns with meaning 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I’m 29 and absolutely love this song. I heard this song as a kid at church, but heard this version while driving once while having a hard day of work and had to pull the car over to the side of the road and rejoiced.
I'm interested in learning more about the history of this song. I know that it was used during civil rights era recordings in the 60s. But I also have some recordings of white groups from the south in the 70s singing it as well. I suspect that it's much older than that.
Now grown living in London ... this reminds me of my great grandparents. Oh, Bwoy this was the singing and my sister and I would try and harmonize 🇯🇲😃😀🤣🌹🌺🌹🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🏴🏴. I don’t think some young people these days, see the beauty of these songs. These are the songs that stir the Spirit. It makes us realise that we MUST give our ALL to THE LORD JESUS CHRIST before it too late. Many a millions have missed The Old Ship of Zion. Let us make that mistake.. Do it before it is too late.
I remember as a kid my mother, born in 1933, talked about her grandmothers church in Tennessee, in the deep country. The only instruments were your clapping hands and feet tapping on the wood floor.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY, ON MARCH 27 AT 1:15 2018, MY MOTHER, Mrs. IDA D COLLINS - MOSS PASSED AWAY; SHE GOT ON THAT OLE SHIP ZION, THAT TOOK HER DOWN THE RIVER CALLED JORDON, IT A HARD THING TO SEE A LOVE PASS, YOU STAND THERE ON THE BANK AN SEE THEM GO, YES SHE PASS IN MY ARM AN ALL I COULD BUT SCREAM! TO SEE THE TRANFER FROM MORTAL TO IMMORTAL SPIRIT IS A BEAUTIFUL THING BUT PAINFUL, LAST BREATH SEE LET GO IN MY FACE, AND I THANK HER FOR I UNDERSTOOD IT, SHE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, UNTIL GOD PICKED HER, COME HOME DAUGHTER IT TIME TO REST, I AM SO PROUD TO HAVE BEEN HER SON AND SHE MY MOTHER, NO MORE PAINS, UP, DOWN GOINGS OR COMING IT'S ALL OVER NOW REST IN JESUS AN ONE DAY I'LL WILL SEE YOU AGAIN.
Aleluia!

@@aaronjonesgospel Basically, this song is about dying and crossing over into Heaven. Romance Watson's version will always be the best to me.
@Gmmonica godsgotthis I’ve googled it, and I don’t see anywhere, where it says he passed away
@@aaronjonesgospelThis song was written by Rev Thomas Andrew Dorsey, the father of gospel music.

I like the version of boardwalk empire which was sung by Daughter Maitland
He sung it at a faster pace with Roberta Martin Singers. He sounds like Rev Milton Brunson
Norsalas McKissick was the lead. Romance was not in the group then.
