Plenty of those tall pines here in Mississippi, and also massive oaks with 60 ft to the first crotch, and often it’s a tight V crotch, hitch climbing takes out the fuss of finding a climbable tree, if you can get your rope around the trunk, you can climb it, but my preferred size is about shoulder width, nice to hide behind . Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks for this video. My primary hunting ground is in pine timber, and I have wondered if it is feasible to climb one and saddle hunt from it. The bark flakes off so easily I was unsure if the rope would slip down or not when loaded. Now I know!!
We just need to get our anchor set in a quasi horizontal fashion so it's cinches tight. And you don't want to get sap on your rope if you can avoid it.
I have been down near ATL a couple times and I do recall quite a lot of Oak and pine. We all have a lot more in common than our Woods do! In The Parks of Pennsylvania that I frequent, the only Pines are white pines and they have tons of branches and sap. They do provide great cover but I generally stay out of them. My Dad loved to hunt out of Pines though. I still remember him saying how the deer never see him. And he would free climb and simply strap himself in without any stand or steps, standing and sitting on branches all day
