What sold me on the Batmobile was the few external pieces having the Lego round clipping studs. All the slick "dressing" bricks makes the whole model really look like an exhibit model rather than a giant lego toy
Missed out on the tumbler when it was out so bought the BM immediately when I laid eyes on it. Think all the unusual colours used that are hidden on the completed model are for reference points when constructing it as the build is quite complex.
They are both cool, and are perfect reflections of the movies they are involved in. 1989 still has a bit of that Tim Burton camp factor going on, but the build itself is nuts. The Tumbler is gritty, Nolan, military tech, and is also an amazingly fun build. The way the cockpit works on that thing was eye opening, to say the least.
Having built the 1989 Batmobile just a few days ago, and now looking back at the Tumbler, I have to admit that I'm now a bit disappointed at Tumbler's inability to turn its front wheels. The way how they did the after burner is also much better for the 1989. I hope Lego would consider re-releasing the Tumber like they do with the X-wings or Star Destroyers. It also drove me nuts to find where the 3rd wheel was supposed to be used LOL
As a few others have mentioned, the lime greens and oranges on the inside make it easier to build and can't be seen once completed. This is necessary otherwise you're dealing with 3000+ gray and black pieces and that gets impossible to deal with after a couple hours. As someone who has both, the video is correct, if you even look at the Tumbler something will fall off. The Batmobile is an easier build and much sturdier. It also takes up a ton of room. The Tumbler might've been my second "large" kit after the Millennium Falcon, but it's also beautiful and eye-catching. I assume it's not cheap these days either. Both sets are amazing.
Awesome video i got the tubler and im happy to get the 1989 Batmobile aswell. this time im gonna get the Batmobile i have waited long enough to buy the Tumbler and im not doing that again!
Thanks for sharing! Great to see all the little details. LEGO made a phenomenal job on these two. I'm working heavily on updating my tumbler design so this is just perfect timing for me =D
I own both of these sets so I say the 1989 Batmobile is the better of the two. The Tumbler has lots of odd angled pieces that can fall off and are hard to put back in the correct place plus it lacks a steering function which would've been great with the vehicles unique front wheel design. The 1989 batmobile captures the look and shape it's movie vehicle very well has lots of details and play features like working steering the pop up machine guns and opening canopy. So between the two it gets my vote
This is a great review video comparing the two vehicles. Easily the best of all that I’ve watched. The tumblr btw is the best Lego set I’ve personally built and that includes more than a few Star Wars UCS sets. So much detail!
i got the 1989 Batmobile at Christmas time from lego's online store and got the free smaller scale version of the 1989 batmobile. i have yet to put the larger one together because of other lego sets i got around xmas time but am currently working on the large set it was really cool to see the superior Batmobile put next to the not as impressive Tumbler. at least that is how I felt about the two vehicles. really nice video is what I am saying :D
Great video comparing the two! I'm a huge Batman fan, the Tumbler has been in my collection for a short while now. My next big set will definitely be the '89 Batmobile.
@@namewastaken360 1989 batman movie for me is the best and Dark knight coming in second. Micheal keaton is ok for the batman role, but he still did good.
Lego actually made the '89 batmobile in the early '00s. I picked it up at toysRus, I saw one sitting there heavily discounted, it was at least half off I dont remember the price. So, is that the one you have or did lego do another release
Already had the tumbler from 2014 in my collection which I had to buy from lego shop at full RRP as it wasn't readily available from retail stores (aud279.95) at the time. Got two sets of batmobile at aud300 each which I think is a bargain. Only 20 bucks more than what I paid for the tumbler 4.5 years ago and it has way more pieces
me too i've asked this myself during many builds, bricks with crazy colors put into totally covered places...an answer could be unique or very rare bricks which certain lego maniacs could spent a lot of money for, like "oh it's that brick present only into that set!"...i don't know still 🤔
@@bossolo7582 I think more of 90% of the colloured parts are useless and are very easy to build in the right collour. But Lego want to take old parts or think, we all are totally dumb to build 1 set with only 2 or 3 collours.
Stumbled home from a works Xmas party last night, drunk as shit. Woke up this morning to find the 1989 Lego Batmobile in my spare room. Obviously got a little generous when passing the Lego store here in Shanghai. Was marginally cheaper than Amazon.
Wayne Dunne Yeah, it’s one of my better drunken purchases for sure. It’s taken a good 12 hours to build and I have a 4-5 hours left to complete it. Next purchase may be Arkham Asylum.
Wayne Dunne Not too bad, mine aren’t too straight as usually I have a drink whilst assembling. Just take your time and it’ll be ok. You’ll love it, it’s worth the price for the meditative experience alone.
Wayne Dunne You too mate. Post up some pics if RUclips allows. When I finish mine I’ll be posting a video review on my channel. Have a Merry Xmas yourself ;-)
Batmobile surely the masterpeice and the manual is very good work. On the other hand, if you place a double-barrel turret mounted on Tumbler will make it a Mammoth tank!
The real Tumbler was always awesome, my dream car😄. It really drove and jumped. I would have liked to see steering on the lego model as the mechanicals of the real car fascinate me. Ah well, guess I'll have to save a lot of money to really be satisfied.
It is actually easier to build with all the colors that can be differentiated. LEGO can also optimize their production if the rare colored pieces are used more times, and since they are not visible when the model is ready it should not bother anyone.
I already pre-ordered a 1x10 technic brick and 2 technic pins 3L in black from bricklink. That's the only two parts which are visible (in the front) from outside so I will replace those. The rest is fine for me, it's a display model anyway.
I wouldn`t swap 3 Batmobile 89 for a Tumbler its bitchin I have the Hotwheels 1:18 and the 1:24 Jada, the Lego small and large look Epic it's a monster car and I love it!
Does anybody know how to deal with black glossy bricks once they touched by hand they will become smudges white. Even wipe it with damp cloth makes no difference. Any clue how to make glossy black again? Sorry 4 my bad English.
I just saved up minimum wage to buy the 1989 batmobile and spent the whole weekend building it non-stop with 4 of my friends! It is an amazing build with many building techniques I have never seen before. padal is illegal spelling ;-)
that isnt an illegal technique, otherwise Lego wouldnt use it. its been used on other sets before, like the shield helicarrier.
