This was maddening to try to figure out. We are so thankful to have found your solution to the Department of Wack Ideas mask conundrum😂 The accompanying thorough explanation that you’ve added helps to cement the process in memory as well. Thank you!- Kevin
"Yaesu's Dept of Wacky Ideas" - I love that phrase.. I have a Yaesu FT-70D, and their Dept of Wacky Ideas had worked overtime on that model. Thanks for the informational video. A fellow ham here in our town had a VX-6 and found it to be so confusing that he went on the air and offered to sell it below what he paid for it, because he simply wanted to be rid of it. I wanted to learn a bit about the unit, as it is one of the models that is still currently available. Are there any currently available Yaesu handhelds that don't have as many wacky ideas in them? 73
I won't write a book, but masking vs deleting actually has to do with DMA (Direct Memory Access). It is super useful in this case. tl;dr It is what allows for certain functions and efficiencies to happen with the radio, and doesn't require the CPU for channel recall. I assume the symbol was chosen because Yaesu named some of their radio technology/branding "System Fusion," and calling it a "nuclear symbol" means their marketing is working 🤣
Any idea how to do this on a vx-7r? This methode didn't work. I somehow copied the same repeater 6 times... It was years ago. I love my vx-7r and would just like to get these duplicates out of my sight. 73s from KF7RXT.

I call that button Fred.

It's certainly whacky, but at least you can overwrite it on the front panel.
The Nuke button seems to be more like a virtual Nuke button. :)

Let's call that "nuclear symbol" helium, since helium has two electrons like that. 😅
Masking instead of deleting is probably a Japanese cultural thing that made its way into to the design of the firmware. LOL
