Tnx guys! This is exactly the information a total newbie like me needs! 99% of the youtube videos take for granted that everyone knows these fundamental things..
Will depend on size/type/wheight of the plane, although prolly on the smaller size, dual props will compensate well for less thrust and the smaller size will give more rotation and speed.
Yay I guessed right the first time. If you're using views as a sort of poll system I think it might be flawed because I wanted to see what would happen with the other two so I watched them as well. I was a little disappointed though because I wanted to see something catch fire.
i have been subed for a while and i love all your videos, but this was fun and i learned something. i gota give props to you for a video very well done,
you can tell 8x4 is the right prop because the thrust the motor puts out is only 60g different than the largerest prop but it only need 6Amp compare to the largest prop 12Amp
Outstanding educational video. How did you measure thrust? I see the scale but couldn't wrap my mind around how the motor pulling horizontal to the scale would cause the readout.
Thanks for another great video - I definitely like the interactive idea. I use many FliteTest videos in a STEM program I run, and this format fits in very well. The kids learned a lot, they really liked the ability to choose in this particular video, and they think the silly humor is great. Keep up the awesome work and I look forward to seeing more of these in the future!
I'm sorry, but these tests are quite irrelevant because they don't take into account that the airplane is moving. These tests are valid if you were testing for a quad or other vehicle that hovers with zero airspeed, but for an airplane it gets a bit more complicated because airspeed and propeller pitch start to become major factors, so you might zero in on a prop size OK, but the pitch will determine how the airplane flies (max speed, power at cruise, etc) If you could put your test stand in a wind tunnel, the data would be more relevant. AND, I will agree that your style of video interaction was entertaining and fun to watch so that was a positive aspect of the video.
Once again great work on an educational fun episode. So..when do we get the scratch build dart for the nutball fuz we mad a couple of weeks ago? Whats the biggest prop I can spin on the 10gram hextronic?
I have a 1306 3100kv motor from a drone suggested prop is 3" but multi 4 blade. how do you calculate size for a 2 blade prop was thinking 5" X 3" or 6"x 3"
Before watching this censor tube gave a warning that this video has adult subject material click to watch what a bunch of idiots , U guys a the other hand pure gold ! love your business and channel very inspiring and liberating keep being yourself.
Hi Salty. Your battery is very large for a tricopter like what you describe. I run 1200kv Park 450's with 8x4 props on a quad with a 3 cell (11.1V) but only 2200mah and it flies great. If you can tell me what part number motor you are using I can help you more. But to start with, weight is the enemy and are lifting way too much battery. Let me know. Nice to meet you. - Brad
hey guys. i built the spitfire, with 42.5" wing span with a weight of 370g (including electronics). i have installed a 2600kv outrunner +13000mah bat +8x4prop with a 30A esc. Is that too much? should i go with a 1200kv motor instead?? pls. need help.
The selection of props here is so broad that there is only one obvious answer. I would have liked to have seen something more boarderline like a 9x4 or 10x3.8, both of which should have given you incredible performance but been very close to, possibly slightly over the limit WRT to power draw
Hey flitetest, today i ordered the parts to convert my twinstar to brushless, but i couldn't find the 9x7,5 props. so i ordered some 9x5s. can i use these too? Lg nicolas
Hi, i have salvaged 2 motors from a fast rc car, i dont have the motor specs, is there any way to mesure it? i have measured it without any load, it takes 0,35 amp on start and goes down when its sped up (like a second later) to 0.31 amp, operated at 12v, there is nothing written on it that is useful. the car it was in is Tyco RC Mutator, u can watch a video about it if u copy the name to youtube. i think thiese would be just enough for my project.
How much current is running through your system. You need to keep it under the maximum limit the ESC and motor is designed for otherwise when your flying it might go POOOF and die
BJ and LJ. BJ you have a huge following of people that believe you are honest, reliable, with high integrity. This gives you a lot of power on the internet, and I hope you do not allow the industry to corrupt you. On my measurement of people you have reached the summit, people that populate the summit I can believe what they say with out further research. All others no matter what they say I will put in as much research as necessary to obtain the (real truth) if I (need the information) then edit accordingly. LJ you have a good sense of humor, comfortable in front of the camera, and sharp. But sometimes you do distract the topic of study (interrupt the class).
Wow, good to know... Thank you for all of the choices... Some times, books are not enough... You actually, have to see it to understand it... Great job, guys...
It works just brilliant, they have tons of power to weight pull:) On my little hex I had even to chop my props to reduce efeciency , and my friend's quad had gazilion crashes- they still running good:) ruclips.net/video/ornjTOvIZaY/видео.html
FliteTest I never would have believed it of you. This clip began with a RUclips warning ....... Probably one of the videos with best concept out there! Thanks so much for the practice-is-the-mother-knowledge lesson! More Please!
I loved this episode! Great interactive challenge. More please.
Tnx guys! This is exactly the information a total newbie like me needs! 99% of the youtube videos take for granted that everyone knows these fundamental things..
Half the motors from Hobby King don't have prop specs!
Profecional test data fore many motors. www.flybrushless.com/motor/view/449
I chose the right one but had to watch all the choices any way.
Will depend on size/type/wheight of the plane, although prolly on the smaller size, dual props will compensate well for less thrust and the smaller size will give more rotation and speed.
very nice idea to get viewers actively involved like this

For sure, it was a very good idea to do this : involving the audience is the best to teach, thanks a lot for what i've learned ! :)
Sorry, this content is age restricted... 😔 what? And why?
Finally i can see it today 😊
I'd go the 8x4, nice match with amps, and thrust.
Thanks for the vid guys,it has been something I`ve been looking at as I build my quad.
Great vid - can see what actually happens, not just the goldilocks scenario.
8X4 for sure ... I watched also the other videos .... cool and very informative especially the brown out one. :-)
Thanks, I was going to build a tricopter with these motors, but I decided to go with the stronger DT750's... Now I know it's possible :)
Awesome episode, It gave me the info and training I was looking for. Thanks guys.

I chose the 8" first but had to watch the other 2 anyway :)

Love you guy's videos, learned alot from you! Thanks for making these videos
Can you please teach us newbies about motor KV and Speed controller battery etc etc.. thanks have a good day.
Love your channel.
This is very cool!! I want more of this kind of videos.
i agree 8x4 is the way to go !
Props to you dude.
Learn something new every day!!!!

I know for sure 8x4, these motors swing 8x4.5 SF on my multicopters:)
This is such a great video, had to laugh when I choose the prop. 1UP!
Yup 8 X 4. When I clicked on the screen Shockwave Flash crashed in Google Chrome and I got the unhappy puzzle piece face.
8x4 for sure

Having a propeller with 3 or 4 blades instead of 2 it will affect the thrust ?
Can you guys put up some planes for your thrust meter contraption?
what kind of motor we should use when we are dealing with balsa planes
Hi.
How do you know how manny Amps to use for each propeller?
Thank you.
Congratulations on commenting first, parents must be proud

Josh. I wonder how do your guys mearsure the thrust?
Choose your adventure!

8x4 prop all the way:)
You use 24grams for multicopters? How does it work out?
of course the 8x4
would a 5.5x4 prop work on the umx gee bee or will it draw to many amps
any chance of killing the electronic elevator (sorry for the pun) noise?
The selection of props here is so broad that there is only one obvious answer. I would have liked to have seen something more boarderline like a 9x4 or 10x3.8, both of which should have given you incredible performance but been very close to, possibly slightly over the limit WRT to power draw
Got it on the first try!
Hey flitetest,
today i ordered the parts to convert my twinstar to brushless, but i couldn't find the 9x7,5 props. so i ordered some 9x5s.
can i use these too?

Can we get some info on building that motor thrust stand?
Any connection to amperage to esc, I have a 30a esc, 2300kv motor, and a 11.1 2200mah battery.
Brilliant !

You can measure the resistance of one winding. Find a motor with the same wire size and resistance and get the specs from it.
How much current is running through your system. You need to keep it under the maximum limit the ESC and motor is designed for otherwise when your flying it might go POOOF and die
I second your exact statement UKHeliBob :-)
Falaram muito mas informaram pouco.
Este assunto é mesmo importante.
The best propeller for 1000kv motor is??
Choosing the video takes nowhere, cause the 3 other videos are private D:
What device did you use to measure the thrust in grams?
a metric scale

I wonder if a glider can fly well with the smallest prop
8 X 4!
Dose this apply for quadrocopters
Wow, good to know... Thank you for all of the choices...
Some times, books are not enough... You actually, have to see it to understand it...
Great job, guys...
Where did you get that test stand?
8x4
What does the amps thing under 8x4 means.
sad this no longer works
had to watch all three just to see the wrong ones fly very cool
thanx for useful videos inshallah i will make my own plane to plan
what pdf plan plane is that
which motor did u use ??
Well I guess there's always an exception. You must be related to them or something. lol
Make a video making of plane using hdd motor
VERY FUNNY... thank you...
11.1v is nominal, 12.6v is the maximum.
8 x 4
no they helped me a lot
8x4,prop
Combine all 3 for a Punk a%@ prop! :)
mommy prop is the one I'd go with
omg the comment section is so big that there isn't any space for other videos!
Next time guys, disable the comments on the main video.

2200kv motor good for ROC plane
what is ROC ???

The momma prop
These videos would be much better without that music in the background, perhaps less would be O.K.
Little one
Could you NOT use background music. It is very distracting.
Why do I have to sign into RUclips to "confirm my age" in order to see this video?
Now that's the PROPER way to do it...I'll leave
