The thing is, I dont think that "I'm on the next level" is the only addicting part. There's many parts of the song that stick in my mind for daaays, like "that's my naevis, it's my naevis", "I see the nu evo", "naevis calling", my favourite: "common show me the way to KOSMO yeyeeeeee". they filled more the chorus too, its so catchy. I loved Next Level so much.

And the magic about the song: I showed it to a friend that doesn’t like kpop and can’t be more far away from it with his music taste.. but he LIKED IT! And he said it is so different from everything that ge could actually listen to it.

What I like about him is that he doesn't seem to take most of the credit for the aespa version which is respectful. He's mentioning how he's only given good drafts and admits he didn't have much influence in the new version but what interests me the most is when he said he always asks them how and why they made the changes (very open view and really commendable to want to learn). I found it very interesting. Amazing in-depth interview.

Just a reminder.. SM is the TRENDSTTER, they don't follow the trend bcz they are the trend. See, another hit of experimental song by SM. I'm still remember when the news was leaked about SM will remake NEXT LEVEL from F&F ost, then many people over internet gave a negative reaction about it and even until the song released. But, slowly and truly NEXT LEVEL climbs the korean charts until it reach the highest peak at 24Hits Melon as #1st. I do believe karma is real for SM songs, bcz many people react negative at first then later became addicted to the song. And I was like bruhh NEXT LEVEL is a bop song since D Day it was released and you need around 1 month to realized that? bruhh..

Once again an amazing interview! As someone who knows next to nothing about music production and music theory, I love watching these kinds of things. It's like opening my eyes to a new world filled with meaning in the background. I specially love hearing people talk about their craft, you can tell they love what they do.
Now, something that stood out to me was the whole storytelling section. For a while now, I've seen many groups start to incorporate lore into their concepts, which is amazing. However, not all of them commit to it or just use it for a comeback or 2. Some big exceptions to this are of course Aespa, LOONA and maybe dreamcatcher.
I think this is a great way to keep fans on board with the group, as there always will be something new to the story. It also makes people think and start making their own theories, which we saw my's do with this comeback and orbits with the next cb.
I believe this isn't something easy to do and needs a lot of time and planning to create such a universe. BBC took 2 years only assembling the whole group and it seems like SM has been planning this way before even Girls generation. That's why I think most companies or groups won't be really trying to copy or repeat this kind of process. Way too hard, way too much money. Nonetheless, it always great to see it happen, specially in this era where we often get the same product over and over again.
Once again, amazing interview umu, and sorry for the testament

Thank you for this interview Umu & Adam! It's interesting to hear songs producers' thoughts on how our body & mind react to the music we listen to & visuals that we watch through the MV & choreo. Next Level is a unique song that I thought consists of different songs combined into 1. Some people who are not used to SM's music might not appreciate this song because it keeps on changing in unexpected ways. But that's one of the reasons I still am an SM stan. I love how SM keeps on bringing something new to kpop through their music (it's amazing how they always discover talented songwriters/producers to bring into kpop industry) . Next Level has so many parts that make me hooked & I unconsciously sang to it. I guess that's also why it's been continuously rising in Korean music charts (from ranked 100+ when it was released to consistently being top 5 a few weeks ago & now it's number 1). Congrats to our Next Level rookies, aespa! 💖🌙⭐🦋

Fun fact : next level music genre isn't suprise for Old kpop stan !
because they all heard Lee Hyo Ri 's U Go Girl and SNSD's I got a boy ! (U go girl is not from SM but it's the first step of this type and I got a boy is updated)
Next level is just an updated version of SMP( SM Performance) SM really like to combine many genre in just one song ! Beat dropping and beat change ! Some of EXO songs are also influenced by this style ! Yeah It's SM style ! UNIQUE !!! agree it or not . SM is still the leader of Kpop !

I don't like every Kpop song but I do think this genre is evolving music, they add sounds that don't typically mix, and yes people in the west can knock their music for being so flashy and focused on the visual portion but that's the part that people love of the genre, some of their best music videos are pleasing to the eye and the ear lol. However I do agree that at times kpop can be too repetitive and boring but everyone is doing it now, Post Malone, Bieber, etc a lot of artists in the west use the same hooks and sounds they just don't mix different genres as much which is what catches my attention the most. I do love the fact that a lot of the kpop songs are written and produced alongside talent from the west which makes the music that much better and introduces every country to a mesh of sounds that are catchy with the visuals of the artist.

I've been a kpop fan since 2010 and whenever i hear their songs, im like "wow, this one is so catchy", or "the vocals is so good!", but this is the first time i've became curious on how it is made and honestly, it gives me more connection to the song and artists itself because of this indepth information. Its like diving into the ocean after taking in the beauty of the sunset from the shore. Its like heaven.
