TUFROC Thermal Protection System Toughened Unipiece Fibrous Reinforced Oxidation-resistant Composite (TUFROC) is a tiled Thermal Protection System (TPS) suitable for reusable entry heating at 2900+ °F and with single use potential up to at least 3600 °F. TUFROC was initially developed for NASA's X-37 project and ultimately resulted in use on the Air Force X-37B as the wing leading edge (WLE) of the vehicle. TUFROC has similar high temperature capability compared with carbon/carbon, but is manufactured at an order of magnitude lower cost & faster schedule.
A TUFROC tile is a composite comprised of two layers. Its top layer is a surface cap with a special coating and underneath is an insulator base. Pins tie the surface cap to the base; each pin extends from the cap through the insulator base and employs both ceramic bonding and mechanical attachment. The mechanical attachment is designed to accommodate differences in thermal expansion between the cap and insulator base. The cap is made of Refractory Oxidation-resistant Ceramic Carbon Insulation (ROCCI), which provides dimensional stability to the outer mold line. The fibrous base material provides thermal insulation for the vehicle structure. Surface treatments are applied by impregnating both cap and base. These treatments enable it to survive high-speed planetary entry. …. Added: The patent doesn’t address how tiles are produced or how they are attached to a spacecraft surface.
Have you thought about redesigning the X-37B to include a micro reactor, electric Thrusters, and hypersonic flight. Think combining the the X-37B and the Darkstar. Give it some thought.
I guess, in the space it doesn't propel itself straight forward, but instead pointing it's nose sideways to compensate for the engine's position. Just like shuttle did with it's nose pointing upwards to compensate for low center of mass position due to its heavy fuel tank underneath. And the nozzle on X37 is most likely offset due to some issues with mounting it on the launcher.

Please test active and passive shielding technologies to protect, or otherwise control, against the harsh environments of space. For example: 1. Create a kind of mini-Earth with various cores to generate magnetic fields for controlling and "consuming" ions and particles. 2. Create a layered exoskeleton-type sphere injected with ozone and/or nitrogen and/or argon and/or water and/or et cetera for halting penetration of ions and particulates with substances easily replaced or rejuvenated - mimicking the ancient "firmament" which previously surrounded Earth. 3. Extend sensors to provide a heads-up for incoming waves of energy (like solar flares) to adjust powered active shielding. PaddyPatrone wait until ITS launches start to Mars in 2024
Technically, Dragon missions are even more reusable since you're not throwing away fairings (SpaceX is working on that too, though).
Petr Melechin with Dragon their throwing away the dragon solar panel fairings plus trunk.

The heat shielding tiles look really good on this vehicle. NOT like on the shuttles, where they cracked, detached and failed a lot.
Ikr. Unlike the shuttle, their tiles were just Glued onto it.
But the X-37B's tiles were built in I guess.

Why are there three scenes where the X-37 is in space and produces a sound? Just for coolness factor? Because no sound in vacuum...
lol yeah, must be for coolness.
There is sound generated by the vibrations of the vehicle, however the sounds cannot propagate due to no atmosphere.

How did the cameraman (or “Camera person”) not explode from the vacuum of space?

I am really curious about the finances around this launch seeing that the only non recovered part is the falcon 9 2nd stags.
