  • This is Part Two of a (way-too-)longplay walkthrough of Final Fantasy IV for Bandai WonderSwan Color (Japan). It is played on the actual handheld device with a Backlight Modification so that the beautiful color and details can be appreciated fully (mod work by @iFixRetro of twitter).
Any wavy lines, discontinuity of brightness levels, or soft focus are only a result of the recording process. The backlight looks even better in person.
The game is the original cartridge and not an emulation.
The reason for the longplay walkthrough of this version because there is currently no video documentation on RUclips of what the game is actually like to play on its original hardware.
Emulated versions give incorrect sense of what the WonderSwan gaming experience is like, especially with the vastly improved backlight modification on the original hardware.
This is also to show how the limited range of musical output for WonderSwan Color was, since it had a single small speaker on the top right hand side which only had four volume settings (High, Medium, Low, or Off) and used square and triangle waves. My apologies for the softness of the sound--I am working on improving it.
My apologies also for the wobbly setup for the recording of the WonderSwan Color unit as it was the best that I could manage as an amatuer with no budget.
But this way-too-longplay walkthrough is my small contribution in celebration of Final Fantasy IV's 30th Anniversary (1991-2021).
    Thank you for watching!

Would this version also be considered a early "widescreen" version of the game too?

The earliest, to be precise! 👍 This was the first time FFIV was reoriented into a 16×9 approximation for public release.
