I’m so glad you found Lizzy! She’s one of my all time favorite artist. I’d love to hear your thoughts about her short film concept and how she uses her songs and imagery to tell a story. I also appreciate your more technical analysis of the vocals/production!
Thank you for mentioning her phrasing. That’s something that really caught my ear too… how she ends certain lines so abruptly, but I didn’t know how to describe it musically.
Great reaction, and happy you got to see her live! Fun fact: she was starting a new relationship when she wrote the verses, but then got stuck and on a whim, asked Finneas (via Instagram DM) if he wanted to collaborate - he was already a fan of hers and happily agreed. She wrote the break *after* the relationship that started the song had ended, and knowing that makes those particular lyrics more impactful (especially tied to some of the other songs on the album). Hope this helps!
Came across Lizzy here on RUclips. The genre is not my usual listen, but I was blown away by her voice, lyrics and song production. She's my current fav and I'm an old guy! She's gonna be big!
Actually I find it very effective to hold certain syllables as it does create anticipation rather than "tension". But everyone is different and Lizzy is different and that's what I like about her music.
You should react to Joshua Bassett Feel something or Set me free. Josh has actually been friends with lizzy for years. Feel something is really a coming of age bop, a fun summer song. Set me free is an emotional song and you’d probably need a bit of context for that song. There’s also secret which is a dark bop and crisis which probably needs context as well.
I really enjoyed your perspective on "Hate to be Lame" and happy that you got to see Lizzy in Seattle. Also nice that you figured out McAlpine. Here is a question. Is the issue with a singer playing an instrument because the singer believes the instrument is more important? OR (here is a hockey analogy). An elite hockey player never has to think about their skating. Their brain is only playing hockey. So is total expertise with the instrument the real issue? (ps) I saw the Beatles live in KC in 1964.
it's an interesting analogy, and I've often made the sports analogy to music in the sense of "getting in the zone" and not trying to think too much and just let the music play you. But to this point yes, I do think some of it can be the person needing to focus on the instrument because they have not mastered it yet, but more often it's because they don't like their voice and want to hide behind the instrument (there's a lot of this in "rock" music) that being said there are also plenty of folks who think they're the best singers ever but they usually don't play an instrument and are just lead singers. :)
@@BarrettJonesProducer Thanks for the perspective. It is an interesting look into the music world. This all new to us but Lizzy is our grandaughter and we're just enjoying watching her talent expand. There is a lot of OMG and Are You Kidding Me in our household. It is always nice when someone of your experience thinks she's frikken great too. Looking forward to seeing her in Phoenix in October. We'll look forward to more of your reactions to her music.
Well congrats on you granddaughter Chris! She is the real deal and her talent deserves all the praise that she's receiving! I was blown away by her live show and that's saying something from a jaded musical curmudgeon like me ;-)
@@BarrettJonesProducer Hi Barrett have you seen the video off Dovydas an Vere Hill singing Tennessee Whisky it's heading for 17 million views on RUclips that man can sing 😁

If you love harmonies you have to listen to Jacob Collier, especially his version of "Moon River"!!! It's just incridible 👍

have you listened to her album “give me a minute”? that sounds like it might be much more up your alley :)
Thanks for the video Barrett! Just out of curiosity: do you have perfect pitch?
I do not have perfect pitch (not many do) but after almost 40 years recording music I can tell when things are not in tune

Hi, could you react to set me free by Joshua Bassett?? It’s a MASTERPIECE!
