Every time media talk of "multiculturalism" and "diversity" you see those pictures that looks like they could have been from Baghdad or central Africa. No Asians, no South Americans, no Latino, no western Europeans or even native Belgians in sight. It seems to me like a single culture is still dominating the others in our little diverse utopia, its just no longer the native peoples culture.

I was in Brussels today and the area I was at today was fine... I suppose with only a few small papers and cigarettes on the ground everywhere... But as I went to a neighbourhood that had steep roads... I was absolutely mind-boggled. There were rubbish bag piles almost everywhere on the ground you could land your eyes on, hundreds of cigarettes scattered everywhere on the ground, there was graffiti all over the walls of the buildings and the poles and the shops were in very poor condition.

'The lack of opportunities in Molenbeek'. Molenbeek is contrasted here with the European quarter. The creators fail to mention that to get from Molenbeek to the European quarter takes literally 10 minutes (!) by metro. We are not talking about worlds apart here. Leftist nonsense. There is no lack of opportunities in Molenbeek and Brussels in general. There are options for excellent free education and cultural and sports events, etc. The issue is that the Molenbeek community (mostly immigrants from certain countries) does not fully understand the importance of education and European values.

My sister works in a school that is Flemish on the edge of Brussel 90% of the students are from Brussels, Because the quality of the school are just better in flanders. The problem is that having the ability to move your child every day out and into the city for education requires more flexible hours and typically a car. So this is mostly done by the more wealthy families. The problem is not Belgium the problem is Brussels things like education and welfare programs are run by the region and
Brussels is its own region separated from Flanders and Wallonië.

@@civilization57 I think taking the US education system as an example and blaming bad results on mentality of the students is extremely short sighted. The issues of the US system are notorious, where examples such as decreased access to good public education on basis of geography, overall decreased effectiveness of the public system due to underpaid teachers and understaffed schools, poor metrics to measure success of students with linked unmatched prescribed federal curriculum, and overall a 'pay-to-win' mentality seeping through it all having obviously much higher consequences than 'student mentality'.
Just have a few looks at countries that can get proper results (sometimes even with less costs), and you'll see that it is a structural and not a mentality problem.

Here in Oregon, only 25% of our students can pass a math test and only 35% can pass a science test. Yes, the teachers union is a HUGE reason for this but mainly it is a collapse of the American family and, thus, student character.
