      This will sound silly but watching his videos helped overcome some of my perfectionist approach to art. I wanted every step to be perfect with no mistakes but failed. I felt bad about it, not having a clear structure. It's nice to see someone also not knowing wth they're doing and going in without much of a detailed plan. In the end, taking "shortcuts" and not being a perfect planner isn't something bad. If it works, it works. Have a great day!

      @@Nandrew That doesn't sound silly at all! I'm glad you're doing better now, keep up the great work ^^
      It's surprising how oftentimes, the people who aren't actually teachers are indeed the best teachers. If it works, it works, I 100% agree with that.

      @Nandrew not really, with a lot of people cutting content for online viewing or only seeing the final product, it's easy to feel like you can't compare. We're all the same when we try something new, though.

    I always appreciate that you don't cut out your mistakes; as much as I love the finished products, we're here for the journey.
    Also, I'm sure you've been told this before, but if you want more "realism" in your designs, remember that wing-fingers are... well, fingers. They all extend from a single "hand" (where the external wing talon is-which is actually its thumb!), rather than randomly jutting out from the length of the wing. It doesn't look bad, per se (at least for people who haven't spent inane amounts of time looking into the anatomy to make their D&D drawings more realistic), but the way you have it is like if your pinky finger was jutting out of your elbow and your ring finger was coming out of your wrist. And I'll assume the middle and index fingers were fused together for greater strength, like the super-fused structures of bird wings converging with the fanned out finger structures of bats.
    But, ultimately pointless ramblings aside, that's just a suggestion from a pedantic nerd; as you said in the video, you're going more for pseudo-realism applied to the original style than actual realism superceding style, so do as you please!

    • @Vynthos
      @Vynthos 14 дней назад +4

      Yeah, dragons are the only thing I can reliably draw with very good accuracy and consistency. Always treat the wings as an extra set of arms with the fingers being long, spindly, and webbed. Sometimes, you can have a thumb and index with the rest being wing, sometimes you just gotta have thumb, usually depending on what sort of species (i.e. if the race is known for powerful flight, it might have more wing fingers to put more power and control in the wings).
      And my rule of thumb for tails is that they're at least 3/4 of the body to work effectively as a counterweight. Charizard here has his chub to round out his CoM, but without that, he'd be falling over in some of his usual stances.

    For future reference, you likely still had at least one conductor that was usable in that wire. so you could have used the rod as the other conductor for the lighting. Just use a multimeter and check for continuity on both ends and make sure at least one conductor isn't making contact with the support rod/tube. In low voltages like this, it's just about completing the circuit. Great video as always.

    Really awesome build here! Despite all your difficulties, I think this might be your best build yet! So exciting to see what you’ll come up with next!
    Just a possible idea to save you a headache on wiring in the future for smaller lights like on Charizard’s tail: There are wireless, induction-powered LED lights that are activated by being within a certain distance of a powered induction coil. They can be a little expensive compared to strip LEDs, but they’re great if you only need a single little spot of light on something when you don’t want to run wires through them. I’ve seen people shape diffusers for them by casting them into resin, but I imagine you could just as easily use silicone caulk rather than trying to cast the exact shape you want in resin. Nice part would be that you could just hide the induction coil under some paper or fabric for your glamour shots, and thus you could reuse that part of it across as many projects as you want without the ugly wiring ever being visible

    Heya Adam! I recently got an airbrush, mostly to paint my 3D-prints (I don’t work much with clay), and I want to thank you for teaching me how to paint with it, since in my years of watching you, I’ve subconsciously seen and learned a lot about airbrush painting. I’m still very much a beginner, and in no way as good as you, but you were a good example to see how to do it properly.

    I use colour shifting paints, and they are a bugger to show just how good they look on camera. Love your work, and I can't wait for Fridays for the new videos to drop. Keep them coming.

    Props for sticking it through, there are so many issues in this video I'd have thrown the thing out a window for, huge respect for redoing the whole head in particular

    This came out epic!
    For the next time this situation comes up, try using the aluminum tube through the body as a place holder without the wire, then you can run the light strip straight through the body to the other side without risking baking the wire or the wire being permanently part of the sculpture

    to create lighter wings I've used pva glue soaked cloth. 100% cotton works best as the blends dont soak up glue very well. Detail clay (wormy dealies) can be added and baked no problem with a bit of bake n bond.
