Shaver is an absolute master poet/lyricist and should damn well be in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Only a few like Haggard and Willie rival him as songwriters.
I was privileged to speak with him 3 different times after shows in little dive bars, he is so down to earth and humble. he will give a stranger a hug and tell you he loves you and and ask God to bless you and answer every question you ask. Top notch, class act.

Billy Joe is just and old chunk of coal but here in Austin we've considered him a diamond for years and years already. I saw him sing "No fool like an old fool" at Waterloo records last year. The man has a gift and he's making the most of it. You go Bill Joe, you're my role model as I approach my mid fifties.

Sorry to say, that I've been in the dark, regarding this talented Man's music- love his style & the poignant lyrics, heard one of his many gems yesterday, on radio, and been listening to many of the great tunes since. But after watching several videos, this is the first, I noticed he was missing a couple digits on his picking hand. You definitely can't tell by listening, but I'm sure it caused some challenges. I never could play the guitar anyway, but with damage to my first two fingers on left & damage to the first three on right, I found when I tried I could bend my left hand around the neck to hold the strings down.

the difference between Mr. Shavers and Willie Nelson(one is a hero and the other is a legend)is ,..one let his hair grow out,and didn't care,and the other always tryed to fit into mainstream by fitting in,so the moral of the story is "be yourself",.....

Note how he smiles knowingly when he sings that line. Cur = An aggressive dog in poor condition, especially a mongrel Curr = To make a low purring sound like a cat.

I love Billy Joe! My favorite song is Blue Texas Waltz. Such a romantic song. I love to dance to it with my husband.

A Gibson L-00. That model was originally produced in the 30s. Billy's guitar looks like a recent reissue, judging by the sunburst style.
